    It's either for better grip or for marking the magazine if it contains some special ammo (the latter is mostly done with coloured electrical tape though, so I'm guessing the former).


    Generally it's done in Russian SF to fix two mags together so a new one can be inserted much quicker (jungle style as it's called) that I know, but I didn't know about tape on a single mag.. well I guess you learn something new everyday!

    Really? I thought that the US paid out compensation not too long ago? If we're talking about civilian airliners downed by foreign militaries, obviously the shooting down of Korean airlines 007 by the USSR is quite relevant, but even more so would be he shooting down of Siberia airlines 1812;

    It took quite some time but Ukraine to admit fault that it downed the airliner but eventually they did. Not saying that Ukraine actually downed MH17, but since we don't know exactly who is responsible yet (despite journalists and politicians being so hawkish) it shouldn't be ruled out. Furthermore there was talk of apparent US intelligence which claimed that the operators of the missile were wearing Ukrainian army uniforms... to which they explained it was likely defectors.. oh yes, very convenient...


    Anyhow, until we know.. we don't know.


    State department is now talking about intelligence that points to Russia giving the seperatists more advanced weapons systems... how did they pick that up then? They had no idea about SA-11 being in their hands... Hell they didn't even have a clue Russia would invade Crimea.. so how do they know the aforementioned? Journalists who pressed the spokeswoman at the press briefing about said evidence didn't get any answers, if this information is genuine then it should be presented to the public...

    Just reporting as it is, crying wolf is your interpretation. Btw the last major ceasefire that Poroshenko announced for several days was nothing more than a smokescreen for the assault on Slovyansk. Before that, both sides have been responsible for breaching any kind of peace made, especially Lyashko's thugs.

    Heavy fighting in Lysychansk, Lugansk Oblast. Ukrainian forces have taken several other cities also, seems the calls by our politicians for an immediate ceasfire only applies to Putin. I've always doubted direct Russian involvement since there's never been any real proof and this only strengthens my view that if Kremlin was backing them (they no doubt have funding coming from elements within RF but connections to the government are not concrete), they wouldn't be losing so much ground. Slovyansk was a huge blow and it seems like only a few days before they'll try to enter Donetsk.

    State department doesn't know who fired the missile but it was "probably" the separatists... and just days ago, Kerry was claiming they had "satellite data that shows exactly who fired it and that Russia supplied them with the means to do it"... guess it's just another case of Kerry talking out of his arse again... They seem to contradict themselves a lot, Russia trains the separatists yet they lack the training to operate SA-11... which is it?


    Yesterday a public investigation on Litvinenko's death was opened, just coincidence of course.. only less than a year ago Teresa May was insisting there would be one because we didn't want to harm relations with Russia. Hmmmm...

    There have been around 4000 airstrikes on Gaza, if Israel was "carpet bombing" civilian areas deliberately, there would be somewhere around 5000+ people dead. IDF phones people, texts, drops leaflets and intitiates the knock on roof effect to give a 15 minute warning for people to leave. Hamas on the other hand doesn't give any warnings about attacks, it hides weapons and terrorists inside schools, mosques, hospitals and civilian homes.     Furthermore every time Hamas fires a rocket into civilian areas like Tel Aviv, they are commiting a war crime. Hamas couldn't care less about Palestinian people, every death that they suffer is another way to carry on brainwashing the masses into believing everything is down to Israel. Every death that occurs in the IDF operation is down to Hamas, not Israel.

    Both countries are trying to "defend" each other, but Israel has a slight edge, don't you think? This "war" was just reignited and it's already getting on my nerves.

    The war reignited because Hamas murdered 3 kids and launched hundreds of rockets into Israel. Hamas is the problem, if they weren't dedicated to wiping Israel out and driving the jews into the sea (their own words), there would be a chance for a compromise but alas it is not the case. The peace plan died the minute Fatah and Hamas decided to form another cooalition government, Israel cannot negotiate peace with a terrorist organisation that uses it's own people as human shields.


    Anyhow, we can go on about this topic forever, let's stick to Ukraine...

    I wondered if this would be bumped...


    Still digesting what's going on fully, events are so fast moving. Looks to me like a situation similar to the end of the Iran Iraq war when the US accidentally shot down an Iranian airliner mistaking it for a military plane. Given the days before the militias downed several AN-26 planes, they probably thought they'd brought another one down again and then realised what was actually shot down. That's what happens when you get irregular guys with little experience with access to powerful military systems, professional soldiers would not make that error since they would know exactly how to use BUK systems. I cannot believe that it was done liberately, no matter how much Kiev wants the militias to be "terrorists" (although if it was a deliberate act, that label would be justified).


    My condolences to those that died, especially the Dutch and to Malaysia because having barely recovered from one aircraft loss they now have this to deal with...

    I just started watching from the beginning again, I can never tire of this show!


    I found S3 to be pretty dull (apart from the RW), so without spoiling anything, has S4 been an improvement?

  • What have you watched recently?

    X-Men DOFP: I really enjoyed it, was better than I expected. Sure you can pretty much guess what is going to happen (apart from the very last bit.. or maybe that's just me) but it's still a fun ride and it's good to see Patrick and Ian reunited again.


    Edge Of Tomorrow: "Source code" like fare with added subtle comedy, again you know what's likely to happen at the end but it's still a good time getting there.
