No COD4 spoilers please, I've just started the single-player campaign From what I've played so far, it is an excellent game, the intro was just jaw-dropping. I love how the load screens have the short information movies about the current situation giving you something to watch instead of just a pretty picture with a loading bar.

Anyhow.. Netherland architecture for the Russian parts?! I'm sure Pipryat was made using references from the ghost town itself...

Oh no this doesn't sound good, reminds me of what they did with Agent Thomas in Condemned 2, turned him into a homeless alcoholic D: There's so many things they could do with Max Payne to make 3 a decent game but they wont do it right and Remedy aren't making it so it's automatically fail

..but, I guess if I see media from it my opinion may change, we'll just have to wait and see.

The sandbags are modelled from the trailer, with a normal map. Can't see any photo-raped tiled normals in the trailer at all, must have been placeholder material. I like what I see from the new footage, looks a bit "bloom-i-fied" though

Great use of unique textures, it's so much fun doing it that way, just time consuming, especially when I was doing it for TF!

The ending was messed up indeed, I had no idea what was going on until I looked up stuff on the Interweb, Monolith have sick minds!

Anyway, they did a good job on the game, more colours, lots of variation in environments (the ruined streets were jaw dropping at times), good enemy variation as well. The original is still much much better though, the colours are too bright in PO and it kinda spoils the dark grittiness of it, and the AI is dumbed down for some reason, even on hard it wasn't as challenging as the first game.

Game looks amazing, not sure how it plays.

I saw a video of the ending though, Wesker turning into a monster again and falling into molten lava, most cliche thing I ever did see, the dialogue made me cringe I almost needed a facelift

. Probably not gonna bother playing it, was never really taken with RE4.

I got the game on EU release day, it's superb so far, they really listened to the criticism regarding the first one, there's so much more detail in the levels it's insane, even on medium settings it looks fantastic, love the city backdrop. I had to knock down the res to 800x600 this time as it's got more detailed environments than the demo but I'm not fussed about that, that's what you get for having an old machine :\ Shadows are horrible though, they should just be removed for being so pointless.

Oh yeah, and high-five to the people that supplied the instructions on how to run it without Steam, means I can play it straight away without having to piss about with another Internet connection

    Hello all,

I don't really know how to say this very easily, so I'll just say it as simple as I can. I have decided to stop developing TF, I simply have too little time to carry on working on it. When I first started it, I was unemployed and had plenty of spare time, but later on I got a full-time job which I am still in now. It takes up too much time for me to effectively work on the things I need, I end up too tired in the evenings to work on anything and then I only have the weekend which is always short and I need to do other things too. Constant lack of time has caused me to delay media releases far too many times, which you will have noticed and I was kidding myself that I could actually get it done anyway.

Some of my family have fallen ill and it is simply the last straw for me, I must direct my attention towards them because one of them may not be with us for much longer and I need to find a new job because I hate my current workplace and because it will allow me to consider planning moving out. If I carried on working on TF it would still probably take 3 years to finish properly, it was always a massively ambitious project to start with and then it just grew more and more.

Whilst I could take more people on to do level design and textures etc I would not like to do that since the art direction would be inconsistent and I would have less of a part than I would want to have. I'm the 2D art guy/level designer, I don't want anyone else making things, it's just the way I work. Even if I did, it would still be a long haul and there's no guarantee that people would work as hard/work at all.

As for my future in the modding community, I will be joining the Cry Of Fear team, the project is already 70% done and it would make more sense to contribute to that rather than waste time on a project that would either take forever to finish or never be completed, I would predict the latter. I may also make something myself, possibly for HL or a new engine, I'll have to see what happens. They need more people too, so a couple of others from our dev group will join them. You can find out more about Cry Of Fear here:

    http://www.moddb.com/mods/cry-of-fear

I'm very very sorry to have to let you all down like this, but I just cannot dedicate the time needed to carry on with it. I hope you understand and respect the decision I've had to make, it hasn't come easy and believe me if I had the time to do it, I would work on it but I just don't have that luxury.

I'd like to thank you all for the support and help you've given me and to all the guys who worked on the project, it was fun whilst it lasted and hopefully it will never be "forgotten".

Edge gave it 7, F.E.A.R. 2 got an 8, considering the high regard of that magazine, I'd say your money is better spent on the latter title

Whilst the horror bits don't scare me, they do put me on edge a bit, especially when you're in the maintenance tunnel and Alma appears behind you, made me jump out of my skin. The best thing about F.E.A.R. was the combat anyway so I'll be expecting more of the same with better AI this time around. I'm really just excited to see how the storyline develops from here, although it wasn't the most original idea ever, the fact that it's set just before the explosion creates a new perspective on the events.

So F.E.A.R. 2 has gone gold and will be on shelves by the 10th (US) and the 12th (Europe and beyond), Gametrailers has an exclusive launch trailer in celebration which is pants wettingly awesome. I cannot wait for the game to come out, I've not been this excited about a game since Quake 4 back in 05.

F.E.A.R. 2 will apparently need Steam in order to activate the game, looks like I finally have my excuse to reinstall Steam again...

Took some screenshots, nothing really spoilerish, I think this demo level is a mishmash of levels from the full game just like the first F.E.A.R. demo. So go ahead and play it HP, it wont spoil the full game

Big question to Monolith has to be, what's with the stencil shadows?! I could swear F.E.A.R. had soft shadows...
