People are suckers for strong white light.

A gateway is the place where one area connects to another area in the same map. These screens are from seperate compiles of each mappers area, there will only be one sky box (though there are ways to simulate a skybox with custom textures) so the WIP pics arn't going to be the same once they are in the full map.

cool pics.Last one reminds me of Gorillaz video.
Thats the look ice is going for. I'm really excited about that area. CJ's area is looking quite nice too. I'd say his got the most responce, though that is an old screen shot.
Addicted to Morphine is a great example of how the project helps new mappers. AtM has been mappping for just a few months now and has really done some great stuff with his area. Took all the feed back from the Beta and changed his area to fit what we were telling him. I'm really impressed by his work.

my reputation is zero right now, rd. id hate for it to drop below. ive got no public released maps yet, and i havent even put any real effort into a source map.
You cant fall below nothing, if you have never relesed anything why do you think you can do any better than any one else who has done something?
I'm sorry to flame you but how can your ego be so big when your portfolio is so so small?
I'm sorry I ever thought you represented any part of map core.

Thanks for the support everyone.
Quote from csharpI think that its not a good idea to make maps with hell big group! I have tried, and it wasnt even fun to map like that.. And when you add 10 rooms witch are made by different mappers, it cant be good..
I've set this up so none of the mappers have to do anything but make their room. The gateways are already set up, and the area space is set. This is in no way like a MOD, while there are alot of people working on the project all I requre any one to do is send me an e-mail with name, DOB, location, and area # then send me the finished area.
Quote from mike-0also, yea, im really worried about my reputation.
If anyone's "reputation" is important you can give me a fake name and ask that I dont add your info to the mosaic bio... I, for one, am proud to be working on a project that doesn't turn down people because they are new and want to learn or be a part of a community effort.

I need you to sign up on this page, just pick your area from the list, e-mail me, download your .vmf and read the rules. (I wish I could just sign you up from your post but it would just be too hard to keep track of everyone)

Does a weed next to a rose make the rose any less beautiful?
I don't want to pressure you, I'm not here to beg for help, I just don't want people turning this down for of the wrong reasons. Its not a matter of who your working with, its the community working together.
I hope this shallow attitude isn't shared by everyone here at mapcore

Please dont take this the wrong way, I have alot of respect for this site and the people here and dont mean this as any kind of attack.

I cheated on that one...

This big dragon fly just stuck to my friends car antenna and let me get with in 6mm of it to take some pictures, when it would fly away it always came back to the spot it started.

Reno hit the nail on the head.
To be honest, it takes much less to get a "newbie" mapper to join the project then it would to get a "guru" to join. Also, the "crap" maps were rush jobs, the mappers were excited and didn't put as much craftsmanship as they should or could have. These kids want to be part of something and I dont think I have the right to turn them away.
In fact, to quote one of the mappers. "If they feel like it, they should jump in and show us how its done." I cant agree more. After the beta release we were able to point out what was wrong and right with each persons maps and they are learning and growing.
I hope that more talented people dont pass this off because it gives all mappers equal opportunity, that would be a shame.
I figured that if you guys saw some content it would spark more of an intrest than if I had just presented you with an idea.

This and more information can be found on the website
The Map Mosaic is a project that will stitch 10 areas made by 10 mappers into one map. Once you sign up you will be able to download the template of the area you choose. Once you have the template, follow some simple rules and create your area at your own speed.
You are free to make your area follow any theme, any style, any thing you want. So when all the areas come together it will be one wild trip.
There are almost 20 members so far, you can find a list here. I know your thinking now, "but you said there are 10 areas... yet 20 members" well I had to figure out a way to work with the inevitable problem of people joining then dropping out, so I have a rolling admission and plans for multiple maps. If you sign up for area5 then find out that some one else is already don't with area5 you wont be forced to drop all your work, you will be placed in line for the second or third or fourth mosaic map. As long as there are members working on the areas of the mosaic I will be able to release mosaic maps.
I hope I have sparked an interest, I'd like to see more experienced mappers join along side some of the newer members. I want the mosaic to be fun, but also a good tool for new members of the mapping community.
Thanks for any support, a beta map that includes 5 areas can be found here
