I'm getting pretty sure it's not lol, damn 23 is even worse than 16

EDIT
finished em all now

-
As you stated it, a simple layout is often preferred by most gamers, since it's easy to learn and get good at

-
Looks fairly simple and ok i guess, how many acces points are there to the different floors?
-
24? 30? 16 is killing me >.>
-
Damn i should really work on making a portfolio someday soon. sounds like a nice and well organized thing you've got going here, good luck to anyone who applies
sure sounds fun aiming more at gameplay than visuals like alot of mods do
-
mine's like duffys with older technology

-
Either a basic drawing of the floorpan of the map including measurements or easier, compile the map, no clip out of the map upwards untill the entire map fits int the view, and make a top down screenshot of it, or do it i nthe editor ,might be even better.
Layout is basically a floorplan, how and what directing people move in a map.
If your layout doesn't work well for the game, it might ruin the playability of your map.
Since hl2dm is less objective based like games of cs the most improtant aspect to keep in mind is people get lost easily if you don't provide them with good clues as to where they are , and keep the layout simple enough so they're not struglling to get through an endless maze of hallways etc.
Also in deathmatch play dead ends are lethal, if you get trapped in a dead end you're doomed, unless ofcourse you have it there for a purpose (maybe a hard way to get a powerfull item or weapon.
It's imo essential to have agood layout ,it doesn't have to stick to the base layouts people talk about (in cs stuff like a fogure 8 shaped floorplan comes to midn for easy balanced game play) but it has to run ok.
It will also save alot of time redoing it if you test how the layout runs thought tthe map i nan early stage of development, before the stuff you are doing now, since redoing the layout / making changes takes alot of effort if the areas have already been optimized.
Anyways, for a beginner (like i am myself before anyone makes any assuptions or whatever
) it's not expect your map plays like a professionally built map ,but it's a nice concept to bear in mind on future projects, or if you have alot of free time and are verry patient, on this project.
-
Note that the people here are trying to help ,but you mustn't let them drag you out of your own view of the map too much.
You've made some superb changes to the map based on people's comments, but if you like th bricks more, why not keep them?
If you're of the opinion it 's better this way, it's your map.Otherwise you'll get a map that you've build based on the communitys idea, not yours.
There's plenty of factoy's / warehouses that use just one brick type.
Anyways, looking on from the first screenies, and seeing the improvements, this map might turn into a pretty nice one indeed, good example also of how cumminties can help a designer improve, but try to not take all the feedback and translating it into litterally what you make ,but gather the ideas they give you ,and try to adapt them to your own visions and ideas

Try to think about why people think certain stuff should be changed, and the ncome up with your own solution to tackle this idea, in my opinion this teaches you to think more creatively so you can add all these details and improvements yourself i nthe next map, and get feedback on different things, which you could then again learn stuff from for future projects.

Anyways, I thin kthe maps looking alot better than when this post was started, best of luck finishing it, and keep gameplay and layout in mind
maybe post a screenie of the layout of the map for people to comment on, layout is asmuch if not more improtant that the nice visuals people are helping you on now

Quote from fonfa
I can do it and I do need the money. I'm curious about the paying method though, since I live in Brazil. If you want samples of my work, check it out:
http://mods.moddb.com/gallery/image/53280/
I'm the author of the 'cradle' map for the mod GoldenEye: Source
If you simply set up a paypal accoutn he could wire it through that i guess, it's a pretty effective method of payment for such situations

For another land mark, some kind of wildlife spying setup, some kind of birdwatch shed / tower could work really well in this setting, in the same way the forestfire watchtower does i guess

Maybe a 'big old oak' that's like 3 or 4 times as huge as the otheres would work too, but that would probarbly mean that the skybox would need to be higher, not sure how that works in source
might get horrible laggy.Anyways, i'm at work now tryin to get the ports open for steam so i can update my css and have a run around here in it with a few colleagues, i'll post back how it goes, it'll be like a 2v2 match

de_evergreen (cheesy as hell! as it's mostly autnum colours)
de_autnum
de_wildlife
de_outcast
de_survival (but it reminds people of that snowy awesome map i guess!)
de_forestfire (t's want to blow up flamable shti to start a fire? ct's start around the forestfire watchtower?)
de_nature
de_outlands
Or ofcourse you could pick a name of a forest wit ha similar setting that you know of in real life

anyways there's some names, haven't checked availibility or anything but you might get ideas from them if you haven't decided on a name yet.

I think it's a drum computer , a bad one
Anyways, i'm working on buying (costs a bomb but i need tto buy >.<) drum kit from hell, a bass guitar ,and an usb port to stick my guitar in, guitar rig ,and cuebase.Got most of it this week ,i just need to wait till next month to get more cash so i can go get drum kit from hell and one of those usb thingies (thank god those are cheap
).Yeah the name is just because i'm used to writing brutal death metal, you know

Was more curious to what you thought of the music, no the quality of the track or technicalities, but i guess ti gets a bit hard to focus o nthat with such a shitty recording.

-
looks sexy though, uncomfortable seats, but that's ok
that's usually the case in sports cars right
-
Very nice theme set here, maybe indeed like a poster before me suggested you could make a scene and have it black and whine and maybe a subtle detail coloured to make it come out of the image more, something you want people to really see.

-
I like everything but the ice ring itself, looks like it hasn't been optimized as much as the other parts

Other than that the hallways etc. have a good impression of the atmosphere of a deserted stadium (i used to clean floors at one lol) nice job

-
indeed the name is a bit limited, it doesn't nearly attract me as much as the map! lovely visuals there man, i the gameplay works it'll be such an awsome map to run around in.
maybe something like de_flora or de_jungle is more interesting
not having checked any of the mare taken. -
Any stores that sell it in holland?
Can't really order anything because i don't have a credit card
defenatly want to take a closer look at this!
-
Apart from the bad quality off the recording ,since i lack any form of good recording software (which will hopefully change this month! and i'l lre-record it then) what do you guys thino f the following track.
http://media.putfile.com/incinerated-intestines
It's a fusion of me and my friends favorite bands their styles, and we're hoping to create a new kind of sound.
Any constructive and/or non constructive critisism is welcomed, please don't be too harsh ,we're amateurs trying to work on a nice project, which will hopefuflly someday form into a band if we can find a drummer / bass player that want to play it.
Hope you enjoy it

P.S.
The intro guitar (bakcing guitar chords) has a de-tuned high e or b string (well D since we're playing in D... but anyway)
-
The lighting in some screenies is indeed a bit weird, maybe it's because it doesn't quite match up with the skybox or something.
Also some places seem very brightly lit even though there's no real sun / shadow effects. maybe that's it, i'm not sure.
other than that i think it looks cool, like the newage azzy style

http://www.ingame.de/gallery/image_popu ... &img=22113
this building looks weirdly lit, mabe it's just the angle

-
I'm still going in Bioshock, and i'm defenatly going to play it a second time to see the difference between harvesting and rescueing the little sisters for myself, and just to spec in other ways than i have done this time.
Love the atmosphere and surroundings, i think the development team did an outstanding job of making a really cool game here.
I might even consider this game being the most interesting shooter i've played since deus Ex 1 and half life 1.
I haven't had any technical issues with the game though it's on my PC (wow!) , non-steam version though, couldn't be bothered regestering a single player game on steam if i didn't have to.
The story telling and most of the dialogs in the game are really interesting and really add to the game, and everything just seems to match up and transistion to eachother nice and smoothly.
Loading times are fairly decent, sometimes my pc takes a while ,but you don't need to load very often so i'm not bothered about that.
on a side note:
anyone know when the sdk will be released for the new unreal engine (unreal engine 3?) i would love to give it a go
