Plays fine for me in Opera 9.10, I also don't seem to have any problems loading the Microsoft site or Hotmail (perhaps you could be more specific about the problem you're having?)

I've been using Opera for years and can't remember the last time it actually crashed.

Best I could think of is to try to update the adobe flash plugin because odds are it has more to do with that than Opera.

Ahhh the wonders of video editing. Hours of footage, 6 minutes of video.

Seems like everything thats already been said before a whole lot of times.

Furthermore depsite the fact that I agree with most of it, the author cites examples that seem to imply he has no grasp on the fact that FPS games have subgenres.

Create a world that invites, encourages, and rewards smart thinkingExample: Far Cry. The mixed terrain and objects gave the world a “real” feeling, allowing stealth or brute force to move Jack through the game.

Example: Painkiller. Despite featuring a wide array of locales and enemies (and lots of them) every level managed to be the same combination of jumping in circles as enemies appeared from every side.

Painkiller is not intended to be played like FarCry. They're two entirely different games that cater to different audiences.I really don't think I'd enjoy FPS games as much if every studio just kept making Half-Life 2 and Call of Duty over and over again.

Well if its down to cost cutting, then why hasn't the price changed?

If you charge the same price for a unit that now takes less money to build you make more money, except in the PS3's case it is not that they make more money but rather that they lose less.Supposedly they're losing $200+ for every retail unit sold in North America. The $900 UK price tag still isn't enough to compensate for their losses in NA/Japan.

Edit: Just to clarify, hardware losses aren't uncommon because they recoup a lot of the cost on software sales. Microsoft was originally manufacturing the 360 at a $75-150 loss.

only problem ogre has ... it comes basically without any useful tools ^^

That's because its not a game engine, it's a realtime rendering engine.Very cool work on Alliance btw.

    Page 3, figure 2a

I called it an instancing artifact (because yea, it does look exactly like a clone brush, although it seems more like a lot of planes arranged at different heights when you rotate around it) when I noticed it was happening to one of my textures in Sauerbraten. It's a lot less noticeable in Sauerbraten if you use smooth transitions between your high/low areas (eg: a gradient.)

If you look at figure 2b the shot has depth bias which largely reduces the instancing artifacts but causes the "parallax" effect to flatten out further from the camera.

For all I know that shot could be photoshopped, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was real.

Edit: And yeah, the texture alignment is gross.

A WIP. Any critique would be greatly appreciated : )

The lights are there because that's pretty much the lighting setup (There will be columns on both sides with dimly lit torches) I intend to go with, perhaps even a little darker.
