  • Why do you do this?

I like telling stories. I'm not a very good mapper, and I could never finish a multiplayer map, which is pretty much everything I ever attempted.. I'm just starting into doing a single player project, and man I'm enjoying it so much more... All that really matters in a multi map is a layout, and some purty scenery(and even that is negligable.. look at iceworld! <3 johnny). But with single player, its more like writing a book or a movie. I'm suprised it took me this long to get into single player because I have always been an avid writer. I love how subtle you can be with a map, you don't have to say anything, just let the scenery and gameplay tell the whole story.

The most frustrating thing about mapping is trying to get my quality standards and abilities to jive with each other. If I can't get something to look just right, I lose my drive to continue and the map usually(always actually) ends up unfinished.

And its a cheap hobby.. I mean, I paid $40 for Starcraft, HL1, and $50 for HL2... That is $90 I've invested over nearly a decade of level editing and modeling(ms3d ftw), and I run a $500 computer. Can't beat that.

..what the fuck?I refuse to believe Sindwiller is 12...

I hope to god he isn't. But why would a grown man claim he was 12? It makes no sense. Then again a 12 year old linux freak programmer makes even less sense.

If he is a grown man pretending to be 12, he also needs to step the hell away from the keyboard. Maybe even go outside. You know, sunlight. Scary.

I have nothing to add to this discussion.

I just wanted to say, sindwiller, you scare me. Go throw a ball around, play soccer/futbol, ride a bike, scrape your knees, get dirty... GET OFF YOUR COMPUTER.

God damn. Anyone see that interview on Colbert Report with that lady who wrote the book about overachievers? Every time sindwiller speaks I just think of that interview.

#collabsp on IRC for anyone interested.

I'll try putting together a website soon, I'm not the best at web dev but it should be good enough to serve its purpose. I have begun the first map, its fairly small so it shouldn't take me extremely long to finish it.

Hmm glad to see we've got some people serious about this. I've got the starting plot written, the scenery is in my head.. so I'm ready to go. I can put about 3 hours into it a night if I can stay focused(my ADD is getting bad.. should see a doctor about it...). I'm fairly excited about this, and having all the textures I need ready to go certainly helps. I'll try to keep the intro level pretty short.

Schmung, maybe I got a different impression of HL2 than you did, but I figured outside the walls of the main combine cities it was pretty much just open ground, either inhabited by aliens or rebels. Its been a while since I've played but thats what I remember. I figure the rebels have to have some good hideouts and bunkers etc out there. At least thats what I imagined . But we could certainly do it further in the future, theres no reason why not. I like the idea of better weapons and armor, etc for the rebels. Maybe the mission for your character is to destroy a secret foundry that the rebels had built to make weapons and armor... I like it! That'd work nice with the setting for the level I'm planning.

were they selling it or was it part of a display? there should be an area of every store where they sell cool shit thats part of a display.

It was part of a display, in that little entrance room where they stack all the carts and have the gumball machines and shit.

What can I say Polaris, I'm a rebel. The CIA is probably tracking me down right now, they have a photo of me with it and a confession of the crime. ONOES INTERNETS DONT HURT ME!

Sorry I got a little EOT on ya there. Its actually a big plastic pikachu that me and a couple friends stole from a WAL-MART. It was hilarious. So we were messing around with it one night, and noticed.. you could shine a light through it! So we got the brilliant idea to stick a light INSIDE of it. A little welding and a handful of zipties later, we had a one of a kind, glow in the dark pikachu.

    BAM

A little story related to pika.. My little niece(3yrs old) visited my house once, walked into my room and FREAKED OUT. She ran out of there like she saw the devil himself. Her father(my cousin) tried to go in the room to see why she was so scared and she was literally hanging on his pant legs, dragging behind him, trying to keep him from going in. She was mortified. It was hilarious.

Me and my homeboy pikachu, a few moments before he hit me with his electrogay attack.. LOL he's such a joker, that little scamp!

    [Blocked Image: http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/417028/original/pika1.jpg]

If you're wondering why there is a tree stump sprouting from that plastic box, or why pikachu is 5 times his normal size.. well, my friend brought over his pikachu, which happened to take a dump in the corner there on that box. Then Barry Bonds, Mark Mcguire, and Floyd Landis came over to visit(long story, but I can't keep to bastards out of my house), and they were shooting each other in the ass with big steriod needles.. Well, Mark flexed his ass with the needle in and it actually caused the needle to explode, a drop got in the pika-dump, and the rest is history.
