I lost my CD years ago

As for SC2, one thing I have noticed is absent from the trailers released so far, is the protoss carrier. I really hope they'll have it in there. That was my favorite unit, I'd always build a nice fleet of carriers. I'm really curious to see what old tactics will still work and which ones won't, and some of the new tactics that emerge. I hope they won't make me wait too long for it, hopefully before 2009

The fact is, theres a ton of RTS games. They're all basically the same thing, you create a small militaristic civilization, theres some form of currency and resources, and using your civilization you create and upgrade different units. You use these units to conquer the enemy. Sure, if you suck it down enough, they're all the same exact thing. Shit, all FPS's are is you're some guy who has to click on enemies while they're in the center of the screen. Hell why not suck it completely down to ALL computer games are a series of pushing buttons and moving a mouse! Every game is the same thign! GASP!

Money is the basis to ANY industry. You're insane if you think that it'll work better WITHOUT money. What would be the reason for anyone to make anything that requires this kind of effort? Of course they're going to make a product that they can sell. Sure there will be marketing and some decisions will be made that will in the end make a game perhaps less enjoyable for some, maybe even most, of the players, but will cause a few more units to be sold, but shit, thats life. Stop bitching.

This is driving me fucking insane right now. TF2 sucks because its not close enough to TFC, SC2 sucks because its TOO close to SC1. What the hell do you want!? No franchises, no sequels, just 100% unique games all the time? Should the industry have just stopped after Warcraft 1 was created, and decided as a whole that this genre is completed to a satisfactory degree?! Well, we could do 3D, but thats just a gimmick to sell more. We could add classes, change scenarios, but thats just a gimmick.

The entire point of making a sequel is to build upon what was a success in the first one, the story, the gameplay, the visuals, whatever it was. Starcraft has superb gameplay balance for multiplayer gaming and 3 dramatically different races to choose from. Its gameplay was about as basic and straightfoward as it gets in the RTS genre. So for the sequel, they're going to try to capture this same balance between unique races which made the first one so fun to play. They've kept the old mainstays of the game, but added some new units into the mix, and given them some unique abilities.

How can you recreate the Zerg without zerglings and hydralisks, or the 'toss without zealots, or the terrans without siege tanks? You can't. They are icons of the first game, and they will remain. I think adding the rush ability to the zealot is an excellent idea and a perfect 'update' to the game. I like how they're working to make some units vulerable to certain 'lesser' attackers. It'll make the gameplay deeper, increasing the challenge. Reconnoissance will pay off, you can better prepare for the enemy if you know what they'll be attacking with. I think it'll help diversify tactics, so perhaps you won't just be building up a huge fleet of one particular unit.

Here's a plymouth barracuda-like car I'm modelling for a low poly contest (1k tris budget). I'm now doing the high poly version for normal map baking (I never done it before, hope it doesnt such too much ). I think the shape is ok and it can look kickass with a hot difuse + normal.

Needs a longer hood if its supposed to be a cuda... Gotta fit that big v8 in there somewhere

Yeah even if they're close to flat and they're part of the same smoothing group it shouldn't look like that... unless you have backfacing there too which is also part of the same smoothing group, then it can get funky lookin...

How about using no content at all? Or no textures at least. Just have geometry of flat solid colors. Thats forces you to think about lighting, brushwork, architecture, the actual space etc, also gameplay and layout. could yield interesting results. Most modern architecture today uses little texture in their materials.examples:

It will stretch the imagination more and you probably get the most original source engine maps.

    just a thought...

    I really like this idea.

Just a texturepack with a bunch of different colored textures, maybe throw a sandstone filter over it and a normal map to give the lighting more life.

I imagine things like what Peris did in the HL1dm contest, although his were just screenshots:

I don't think it is possible to make it in time with the GECK.

I'm just a little bit ahead of you. I pretty much skipped Reno. I boxed a couple times, did one mission for one of the families, which then proceeded to glitch out so I gave up on Reno. It was the one where you had to collect money from two brothers(C-something?) I found one of the brothers (who looked like a female character?!) in the porno studio, but he wouldn't talk to me, and I couldn't find the second brother. So I killed him. Then the gang leader got mad and wasted me. He also wasted me after I boned his daughter, and after I boned his wife. And if I ever came back to him without completing the mission. Guess I have to wait until he knows me before I can shag them and not be suspicious. The guy is easy to piss off I guess.

Reno was just annoying me in general so I left.

Right now, I've just finished bringin the GECK to Arroyo. I started poking around the Military base, but I got my ass whooped by some mutants. I still have a bunch of incomplete missions throughout the world, so I think I'm gonna go roaming around. I want to get Marcus in my party, so I got a couple more missions to do there before I can get him to follow me. I'll probably go back to the Military Base with my Bozar and rape them all. There should be some good loot in there

The game is pretty forgiving about saying the wrong things. One thing I regret doing is breaking into the arms dealer's shop in New Reno, because at that point I didn't realize that shops are only open during the day So he got mad and attacked me, so I killed him. And now I can't buy a part I need to fix Vault 13. Although theres supposedly another one in Vault City's vault, but I couldn't find it.

P.S. being a slaver sucks. Helps out tons right in the beginning, you get info easy around the Den and you get to go on slaver runs which is just awesome for leveling up and getting an arsenal built up. Definately not worth it in the long run though.
