Its still pretty common. Anesthesiologists have one of the most risky jobs in medicine... lots of shit can go wrong when putting someone under. The father of my best friend in highschool was an anesthesiologist, he had plenty of horror stories about bad reactions some people have to certain anesthetics. Very sad

The problem is you'll spend $20 on the piece of wood and $8 on the varnish and $3 on the brushes, spend a few hours doing the finishing, and end up with something looking slightly shittier than the ikea version. $30 is pretty damn cheap for a chunk of wood.

The exterior looks gorgeous, the interior is a bit sparse, but that might not be bad considering CS:S gameplay. That big room with lots of chairs/furniture looks like it could be a headache to navigate, esp once the chairs get tossed everywhere from a nade

The shadows around the chairs/tables look really strange, desaturated and way too prominent. It looks like all the shadows are being cast straight down? Even the picture frames and the phone are casting massive shadows down. The light fixtures casting shadows down doesn't make sense either...

But looks good overall I'll give it a run thru! Any servers?

I just said the freelancer story is exactly what you did, prior to it being placed in the game. I didn't say you placed it in a game or anything

I don't think it was a final piece for the game, I don't think they could possibly be that stupid as to intentionally use something so obviously copied in a commercial product. It was in 2 seconds of a pre-alpha gameplay publicity vid and it was immediately noticed... they have to know that they couldn't get away with that in a commercial release. Not saying that some people wouldn't want to take such shortcuts, just saying that I don't think any studio is that stupid, or they wouldn't be a studio for long.

I understand why you think it is wrong... I just don't agree. I agree they shouldn't have shown it in a video advertising the game. But I believe that was an oversight, not intentional. They removed that portion of the clip after it was noticed.

For the record, I'm not defending the studio, I have no affiliation with them. I think the game looks like crap. I have never bought/played anything done by them... I just don't think what they did is wrong, other than showing it in the vid.

I can't imagine this is that uncommon. With most games being based on a handful of engines (loads of stock assets, just from owning a game also built on the same engine), and the abundance of assets free-to-download... there must be loads of placeholding going on that would be illegal to include in the commercial release.

There are people here who defend this shit? It's one thing to take inspiration from something. It's a completely different story to reverse engineer it and put it in a commercial game without permission.

Wat? That is alpha, pre-release... So it isn't a commercial product yet. Nothing wrong with it until they try to sell it, IMO. Showing vid of it wasn't smart, but I have to imagine it wasn't intentional.

If I understand the response correctly, it sounds like it was modeled based on NS2 concept art by a "freelance" artist looking to flesh out his portfolio... kinda like what you did with that ME2 concept art...

I can totally see somewhere in early production, someone saying "hey we need a resupply box" and this guy saying, "well I modeled one ages ago from NS2 art..." "throw it in and lets playtest!"

I really don't see this as a big deal pre-alpha.

Now I think that they stole the design for it, but not the actual model/textures.It could have been that one of their artists was tasked to reproduce the asset and given your model sheet as the reference, and he copied it 1:1 instead of using it as inspiration, or that the artist in question actually decided to copy it and hope no one would notice.

I prefer to think its case 1, in witch case you guys should contact them and ask that they remove the assets or pay you royalties... if they refuse then go further down the rabbit hole.

Apparently someone who works for them, from the comments on that vid:

We at Spiral Game Studios are an extremely honest and transparent developer. We often show segments of our game when they are very early - or at least much earlier compared to most developers. We do this for one big reason - to involve and interact with our fans. Of course preliminary builds and pre-alpha game builds will feature placeholder content but that is one of the draws when being so open and sharing with the audience and community.Yes, that is most definitely the Natural Selection 2 armory by design. But there was no theft. That was created by a former freelancer artist, Daniel Doerksen on his spare time based on the NS2 illustration. It was a self-exploratory project for him as he was inspired and intrigued by it for a portfolio piece.

The piece in question is of course a placeholder and is only being used in pre-alpha builds until we finalize the design of our resupply stations. We have since edited the footage so that the main focus will remain on the game itself - rather than a single environmental prop.

i'm confused... are those in game shots?

It says at the end it is entirely in-game footage. It looks to me like it is mostly cutscenes though, but that is normal for trailers.

It looks pretty good to me. I don't think we'll know if it "is" Max Payne until we play it... and I'm sure there will still be debate.

If the trailer is any indication, the time of day seems to be around evening/dusk most with some night and some day bits, mostly overcast. But again... we won't know for another 9 months. But it can't be night ALL the time!
