I would like to say Bravo to the folks at the Fukushima plant. Flooding, explosions, power outages, fires, just about everything that can possibly go wrong, and so far they're keeping the environmental impact as low as possible (WAY below what it could have been!). Speaks to the safety measures in those plants. I can't imagine the stress everyone there must be under right now. It sounds like basically all their reactors are FUBAR, likely won't be usable for decades, if ever.
On a related note, I just flew in to Oswego, NY, and will be getting my first glimpse of a nuke plant tomorrow ![]()

*edit* whoever pasted that fake image on the screen did a very poor job ![]()
Hmmmm... how about a stock brush contest? Someone design like 10 or 20 brush shapes, and everyone has to build a level using those brushes, by scaling(3D scaling only, no 1D/2D scaling)/copying/rotating/arranging/texturing the stock brushes. Perhaps impose a maximum number of instances of each brush, like 20 different brushes and maximum of 3 of each?
Just trying to think of ideas similar to the 20-brush; straightforward and quick, but emphasizing creative usage.
Quote from ReNoWhat do you guys make of it? Serving you well? My Samsung 226BW is having horrible flickering fits for about 30 seconds when I turn it on recently, and sadly I've had it over 3 years so it's out of warranty. Think I might take the opportunity to go up to a 24" and that model is one of the possible choices. I'd love to go for the Dell U2410 but don't think I could justify the price.
It's pretty nice. I only use it for work though, so I can't comment how it does with gaming/movies/etc. There does seem to be one spot at the top edge of the screen that has pretty bad backlight bleed. I'd guess it is a manufacturing error, and I could probably get it replaced if I cared to. I never notice it when I'm working so I'd rather not be without the big screen for a few weeks.
I don't know, it is exactly what I expected it to be. Which is something I'm not interested in playing. It was funny when I was 11, but at 26.. no thanks. My sense of humor has changed a little bit in the past fifteen years.
Shit, I was just starting 6th grade when duke 3d came out. Now, I'm a college grad engineer designing robots. Yeah, things have changed a little.
They do have the nostalgia angle working for them, and based on the previews, they're milking that for all it's worth.
If it doesn't get completely horrid reviews, and once it costs less than $20, I'll probably buy it for nostalgia's sake. I am not paying $60 for it. It's been 15 years since duke3d; I can wait another year for the price to drop to something reasonable.
In no particular order..

Almost four years and 2754 posts later, sentura thinks he might like what mapcore might be, sometime in the future. Maybe by 10000 posts in 2017 he'll admit he has grown a bit fond of the old 'core.
Sorry I have nothing constructive to contribute to this thread. Just wanted to extinguish sentura's moment of hope.
Not just the US, we've got a job coming up in korea ![]()
But I agree, remote control sentry gun robot > remote control reactor scanner robot
Well according to the industry employment thread, there's probably another 8-10 mapcorians in the area!
Ahh that's bad ass Skjalg! Edited thread title too ![]()
And it isn't terribly dangerous, they're pretty vigilant about safety inside nuclear power stations!
The entire budget thing was brought up because someone compared the development time of big industry, full-budgeted games (HL1 and 2) with the development time of a no-budget mod. In this comparison, yes, budget has everything to do with it.
IF BMS had the budget of HL2, do you think it would take this long?
Alternatively, you could compare the development time of the no-budget BMS to the full-budget DNF, in which case they are doing spectacular ![]()
Since I don't qualify for the stickied employment thread (non-industry), I made my own :derp:
Just got a job in San Antonio for a company that does non-destructive examination of nuclear reactor vessels! My college friend has been working there for 6 months and got me the job. We are two thirds of the mechanical design team, and the only two mechanical engineers.. So our job is to design robots that inspect welds in nuclear reactors for cracks.
Unfortunately, NDAs prevent me from sharing any CAD/modeling stuff on here (or really anything more than what I said already)
But its cool. At least I think so!
I get to see the inside of a nuclear reactor for the first time in march ![]()
I know there's a lot of gaming industry in the san antonio/austin/houston area, someday we should do a mapcore texas meet-up!
Anyways, I am just excited and wanted to share. Carry on.
