I'll try this once I get home, but from the screenshots it looks great man!

I lived in Amsterdam for 5 years, and kept considering making one set there for TF2 (bomb cart on the tram lines lol :P) but it never got off the ground so super-huge kudos to you for actually making something which really looks like the real thing! It's cool to read the thread and see how the map has improved too! :)

Awesome topic! :) Would be interested to see folks' SP faves.

All of the ones mentioned here are great... love for Gulf of Oman. :) But.......... Maybe it's nostalgia but for me:

  • How do you decide on what to play?

I have a really weird ...quirk(?) where I will play average games that are short, over something that I know is crazily long.

Because I get caught in the hype, am in the industry, and am a bit of collector I will typically still buy games I know I won't have time to play... just so I can have them. I now have a 1 year old son, but even before I had him, I would waste my time and 'put off' playing long games like say Zelda Skyward Sword all the while putting hours and hours into something like Team Fortress 2 that I could "dip" into.

Right now, I have The Witcher 3 and Shadow of Mordor newly-bought still in their shrink-wrap, but because I know they're 100+ hour games I'm playing fucking Banjo-Tooie from the Rare Replay collection.

Just saw this on Facebook, Francois... congrats! Have fun at Sony and in Seattle!

I've also moved on, after 5 awesome years in Amsterdam at Guerrilla yesterday was my first day at Black Tusk Studios/MGS!

Came to post the same "Russian/English resume, please" comment.

When scrolling down and clicking on images, I found the pan to the top to load the image there a bit disruptive and I lost where I was.

    Other than that, nice work!

Nice site! If I were nitpicking, I'd like to see more seperation between your level design stuff and your 3D modelling/misc. It might be good for employers to see you can also model, but the models (e.g. APC) are fairly standard game-portfolio stuff compared with the quality of your level design work!

I want to go play Downfall now!!

Environment art is stunning and makes me want to cry. ...but I'll hold off a little given all the bad press the performance and bugs are getting.

Sounds like reviewers think it's good if safe. I guess you can't expect the surprise of FC3 again, or a revolution with every iteration. Glad they haven't annualised it yet, I feel ready for more Far Cry.

Few missions into the SP and I'm loving it. When playing Ghosts (and BF4) it felt like the team and public were getting tired of FPSs, but this (well, Wolfenstein New Order first ) has revitalized my love for well-done action games, even if they are scripted/linear.

Metacritic went down from 81 yesterday to a 74 :/

I ordered my ps3 copy to England and will pick it up next week when I visit home, but from playing the Beta and reading the reviews, they seem overly harsh and almost a response to the $500m story, which I still don't get how people, especially professional journalists, keep banging on about when it's clearly mostly the marketing budget not dev.

Anyway, guess Activision and Bungie care more about sales than review scores, and they already broke even on day one, so...

Got this pre-ordered anyway, so they have my money ...but I wonder how/if they'll find a solution to something that bugged me in the Beta (played 8 hours, levelled up to Level Cap and that is now they expect you to buy and upgrade your guns, it felt kind of boring being stuck with the same weapon all the time. Sure, you can grow your arsenal, but particularly when grinding against the Devil Walker (and on Hard, without having unlocked the heavy weapon, to be fair) and my co-op buddies died and dropped out, I would've loved to just find an RPG in the level, as a pick up, as you would have in Halo.

Had the same thing with Rage which I re-played recently on ps3; if I didn't stock up and buy ammo before a mission (or tried to do two missions back to back) I would easily run out of ammo and not find many weapon pickups in the levels themselves.

It's a weird design issue, since it takes the weapon balance out of the 'level deisgner' (world designer?)'s hands.

Fucking love this game... going for a second playthrough this time saving 'Captain Price' ...I'm the only guy at my work that's played it that actually saved Wyatt. Everyone else said he was the most developed by that point, my rationale was simply I thought he could 'take it' and the young guy couldn't.

Didn't even realise I missed a whole character in the Hub. 'J' was very cool, Tekla better be as awesome!

you shouldnt be watching her vids bro.

I couldnt find any real spoilers as far as I can tell, but I skipped a few parts

Nah, I was mistaken... I saw an area pop up that looked like it was the strip club in Episode 2, but was actually from the original Bioshock 1, lol.

Finished Episode 2 of Burial at Sea last night... so sad in many ways but the biggest way was that there will be no more Bioshock games from that team. I'd buy a Bioshock episode every year over a Call of Duty (OK, as well as a Call of Duty ) or Assassin's Creed.

Having finished Burial at Sea ep1, I started ep2 last night... was just about to play more ep2 just now, but trawling facebook someone posted the latest Sarkeesian video... clicked it... bam, 1 minute in, spoiler for (I think) ep2. Fffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

    Haha, hats!

I have played TF2 since 2007 and have never spent money on hats because I'm worried once I buy one, I'll have spare change in my Steam wallet and will just keep buying pointless virtual items.

However... I have pre-ordered games, even bought some twice (Deus Ex HR on PC and PS3) to get the pre-order Hats to use in TF2.

I wonder how Valve can measure that.

Just (finally) played Bioshock Infinite DLC: Burial at Sea, episode one last night!

Really nice level design, and took me almost 5 hours! I don't know who these reviewers are that took 2.5hrs! I guess I am a pretty obsessive-compulsive looter.

Do you guys ever get any "moral" questioning* about working on games? I mean thinking that games are intrinsically addicting and for lot of kids is the only activity they do apart school.

It's a bit off-topic I guess, but I have found myself feeling this now and then.

On one hand... why are games where you KILL PEOPLE fun? It makes me question all those movies I grew up watching, John Woo, Steven Seagal... why is shooting bad guys 'cool'? Maybe I shouldn't question it, I try not to, I read an interview where someone asked Tarantino about violence in his movies and he simply said "because it's more exciting."

At least I've never worked on a game which is too close to real life, going to Afghanistan or Iraq and shooting Middle Eastern men.

The other part of your question has also troubled me lately... I think the average game (I've worked on) is fine in terms of, if a kid didn't play that game, they would have watched a movie or read a book. It's just entertainment. But when you start padding your game out with collectibles, or introduce levelling systems it does trouble me. I enjoyed the Destiny beta, but was troubled by the end that I'd put 8 hours in and had stopped enjoying the second-to-second core combat but still wanted to play to gain XP or motes of light or whatever bullshit grindy thing they have, because it was quite addictive.

I guess that's it; grinding is what I have a personal problem with, although I know it 'works', which is scary.

Wow, that certainly bodes well for the story in Ghosts 2, looking forward to it, although who really knows who does what any more... we've all worked at places, I'm sure, where titles and influence/talent haven't always matched...

Regarding the Uncharted 2 vs 3 debate a couple of pages (and months) back... I much preferred 2, but I don't know why.

On paper, 3 is just as amazing.

I think it's a weird combination of things, 2 being 'right time, right place' and 3 being more of the same (less step up from 2 to 3 than 1 to 2, for example). And then niggly things like I remember the aiming being too sensitive or something in 3, but could've been the AI moving around more... I'd need to look at both again.
