The athmosphere is good and it looks fairly original despite trying to be realistic. What the others said applies though, that grass texture is crazy.

Installer fixed
The first released installer contained a bug which now has been fixed. The bugged file was called sow2beta11.exe while the right one is called sow2beta11final.exe.
The updated and working installer is now ready for download in the download section. Go grab it now!
http://sandsofwar.net/index.php?p=download&file=20
Our download system still got some minor problems with certain mirrors, but our webmaster is working hard on making it work with all kind of links.
In case you got the bugged installer then you can follow this great thread by Scott:
http://sandsofwar.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1771
It will tell you how to easily fix it.
SoW2 beta 1.1 released
After some months of development we are now releasing the next beta of Sands of War 2 as planned.
Among the best new features in this release is a new map called SoW2_Abandoned, which you could see in our last newspost. This new map is of a very nice quality and all of the existing maps have also been improved.
The focus of this release has been polishing and bug fixes. Our first public beta was released quite early in the development, so it logically contained a number of bugs. With this new release we have fixed a lot of those.
Mirrors and servers
We got enough mirror sites now, but you are still welcome to contact Zacker or Necsus on the forum with further mirrors.
The Deadclan already got a beta 1.1 server up. IP is 67.19.81.77:27015 in case you can't find it. We would like to encourage people to open more.

On the Sands of War team we messed around with that idea once, making a modding dream team which rescued dead mods. I got the idea after seeing the promising mod after another go down despite the enormous potential some of them had.
In the end we realized that we hardly had enough manpower to keep up the work on SoW though:/
I wish you all good luck with the idea though as I obviously like it:)

After some months of development we are now done as promised with the next beta of Sands of War 2.

We are in need of some sites which can mirror our release. Please contact either Necsus or Zacker on the forum for further information.
We will edit the newspost on our site, http://www.sandsofwar.net, with info about the exact release date soon.

Personally I prefer concept drawings to be as detailed as possible. I like if they contain a wealth of detail so that I as a level designer can just pick out all the good ideas I like until I reach the level of detail the engine can handle.
A concept sketch is supposed to give the overall picture and to give the level designers ideas of how to build their level. It does not matter how detailed the concept sketch is as the level design result does not have to match it exactly - it is concept after all.

I really agree on the lack of custom content outside mods. For HL1 there were always plenty of wads and models to enchance your map.
http://www.fpsbanana.com might be one of the sites where you at some point can find such stuff. At least the slogan is now "The FPS customization community".

The fog/sky issue sucks yeah as we are forced to make the fog the same colour as the sky.

Except the obvious mod testing there is barely anything else than WoW for me. Many people have claimed that endgame content is non existant and that is also true if you dislike to raid. If you like to overcome dungeons in 20/40 mans raids like I do then it's good enough though:) In our guild(http://www.infinityguild.net) we have taken Hakkar, Onyxia, Ragnaros and Razorgore.

Thanks for the replies, we have worked it out now:) It had something to do with the mod title and the font it used. It turns out that the standard Source font only supports the characters to form the title "halflife2" and then fucks up if you try with "Sands of War 2". So we tried with another font and that works:)

No nipples:/

What the other said, nice prop collection you got there:D
-
An unskinned AK is probably among the things I have seen the most pictures of in my modding life:D This one still looks good though.

Malware such as Starforce is for sure to be avoided at all cost. I strongly support boycotting games with it.
-
Looks great for sure, but as Friechamp mentioned those bullet ricochet effects are quite wierd and exaggerated.
-
Yep, the tech class equips it and is also the fastest class which is why I use it for screenshot taking:)
-
Good style to show off both concept art, model renders AND map shots instead of just babbling of how good your idea is:)
-
We got this nasty problem with the SoW2 menu, weapon materials are been drawed on top of the background image for some reason.
Anyone got an idea of how to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated as it's one of the few things which hold back the 1.1 release.

The different one at the top of the page don't look as good as the others. The rest really rocks though! Keep up the good work.

Looks really nice fetter! The mix of a nice sunset with palms and then the industry stuff fits well together.
