EA just fired 1000.

I'm a bit late to the party but here are my thoughts of the game so far (i'm around 20 hours in):
It totally is oblivion in a new facade except for the v.a.t.s thingy. Thats not necessarely a bad thing since i pretty much enjoyed oblivion until the leveling system ruined it for me. The downside on this is tho that i can feel already that i get a bit bored with the game since it doesn't feel fresh enough. So many things give me oblivion flashbacks.
Some cool ideas with the environments (rivet city) but the game in general looks a bit too odd for my taste. I know its post apocalyptic and all but there is a lot that can be done with different color pallets to make parts of the map stand out more from each other. Would make the exploring more satisfying imo.
As oldschool rpg player i miss two things in the game that i alraedy missed in a couple of other new rpg's:
Good dungeon design
Fallout 3 suffers from the same as Oblivion and Mass Effect. The dungeons are repetitive, uninspired and not challenging in their design. Personaly i prefer 10 awesome Dungeons in a game (Ultima Underworld or Arx Fatalis for example) over countless boring ones. The dungeon exploring feels just so much more rewarding when you constantly have to think how you can reach certain spots, when they are full of secret rooms and hidden stuff etc.
Puzzles
This one bugs me even more about modern rpg's then the bad dungeon designs. I want my rpg's back where you had to solve puzzles and riddles all over the place.
20 hours in fallout 3 and i only can remember one single fucking puzzle that wasnt even hard to solve (radio signal that pointed me to a crashed alien ship).
I don't know if this is just a lack of creativity on side of the game designers or if its intentional to leave these things out (probably to make the games more accesible to retards).

I get a uncanny feeling from actualy seeing Yahtzee. To me he is rather a voice then a person

so you're implying that all serbians are cold blooded killers with a vengeance for people from america? i love prejudice and bigotry too! also, let's all start calling each other smart asses for copying another persons statement because you agree with it.
i was implying that the culture wouldn't much different than that of america, and therefore might not be as interesting as other countries. however, you're obviously right that he shouldn't go anywhere but the heartland of europe since that's where everything good and right and true comes from and everything else is the land of thievery, death and murder. piss off.
Sentura you know what just go and fuck yourself. You have to make a argument out of everything on mapcore. I said it before you are a troll. I still wait for the day that you will participate in a thread without playing someone else down in your guileful ways. It boggles my mind that not everybody has realised yet what an huge asshole you are.

I haven't even mentioned England and Scotland you smart ass. But sure send him to Serbia. He will make many friends there as american.
-
I wouldn't recommend any of the smaller countrys for a first time visitor of europe. I believe italy, france, germany, spain, greece and maybe scandinavia is exactly what a american wants to see the first time he comes here.
If i will ever get interested in traveling america i would start with New York, Washington etc. not some obscure insider places that i haven't heard before to put this in perspective.

I was shocked at the lack of secuity when I started to use my debit card in the land of swede. I've never seen anyone ONCE, check the signature on the back of the card with the reciept, and as they dont have chip and pin hardly anywhere here i was thinking someone could have xmas early if they ever managed to steal my card.
As i said it's like that with a lot of things. All your personal data, how much money you make etc. is accesible to anyone in the internet. Doors wide open for abuse.
Then they have freaking edges on the floor in doors and in front of downward stairs(!) everywhere. I don't want to know how many people break their legs and necks every years due to this...

Superb trailer! I hope the game is more fun tho then the UT version of the mod.

don't know about the uk but the german banking system is a dream compared to what i experienced in the us ... wire transfers cost a fee of 50 dollars ? seriously even if i want to buy something on ebay ? if you don't like that shit there is of cause money orders to pay for your ebay shit ... which i buy at the post office ( at -1456 degree in january) for cash money and they send to some dude physically who can than redeem it for cash again. ... urgh ...
Don't they still use cheques and oldschool stuff like that in the US?
About the swedish system: i think it's super convenient but not very safe (like a lot of things in sweden lol). My bank card also is a visa card (technically), except when i buy something its not on credit its what i actualy got on my account. But it's cool for online shopping etc. I can understand Chris' pain with the german system. Back when i lived in germany i used a pre-paid visa card for online shopping or a paypal account. In both cases i first had to transfer money from my bank account to the visa account or the paypal account. And because most of us germans are scared of online banking i actualy went to the bank personaly to do this.

Here in sweden everything is different tho. Online banking is the norm. You only go to the bank personaly if something is very important not for the usual stuff. I only was there twice when i opened the account and when i got my bank card.

Some mapcore people work on this. I did some level design for this game the last three months. :monocle:

I believe it was even mentioned in the links about german quirks that i sent you that the german bank system is a pain in the ass

It still is efficient tho. For the banks to make money... They make shitloads on silly fees which they spent on nice and big ass branches. So at least when you go to a bank there are people you can talk to and its a comfy environment. Here in sweden the banks branches are like the most sterile and boring places. Feels like visiting the work agency begging for welfare money. You even have to take a number and wait...
And kick every bank worker who doesn't speak english in the butt from me. They are full of shit. Of course they speak english. You need very good school grades to get a job at a bank. I guess they are just super shy about speaking another language. Probably feel humiliation when they speak with a thick german accent to a native english speaker

-
Chris you face these problems because your german bank card does not work as a credit card (visa or master). It's a so called debit card. The german system is more based on safety then on convienence to understand this. Someone who steals your bank card can't go online and plunder the whole account where you have your savings and salary. He can only get a limited amount of money at ATM's if he knows your PIN code.
You will need a seperate visa or master card for your online buisnesses.

Only your second favourite game of all time?? wtf man, wtf

Even if you hate the gfx you should force yourself to play it. Eventualy the game will grow on you. But even if not. As a professional level designer or game designer you can learn so much from this game it's insane. The levels are a great lesson for non-linear and yet not confusing level design and clever use of space. You don't see this in 99% of todays games which is really a shame. Games today are either super linear or complete wide open sandboxes.

Still your onboard doesn't sound half as good as the x-fi. Especially when listening to compressed music (mp3) the sound chip of the x-fi is worth gold. Makes it sound clearer and better then uncompressed music straight from a audio CD.
I never was a audiophile person but the first time i heard the difference it really was a "wow!" moment.

Cube is awesome. The sequels get worse and worse tho.
