    Thats a great thread already!

The movie's plot is based on the true story of a group of young computer hackers from Hannover, Germany. In the late 1980s the orphaned Karl Koch invests his heritage in a flat and a home computer. At first he dials up to bulletin boards to discuss conspiracy theories inspired by his favorite novel, R.A. Wilson's "Illuminatus", but soon he and his friend David start breaking into government and military computers. Pepe, one of Karl's rather criminal acquaintances senses that there is money in computer cracking - he travels to east Berlin and tries to contact the KGB.

    This movie is from Germany.

    Amélie

Amélie is looking for love, and perhaps for the meaning of life in general. We see her grow up in an original if slightly dysfunctional family. Now a waitress in central Paris, she interacts curiously with her neighbors and customers, as well as a mysterious Photomaton-image collector and one of his even more mysterious photo subjects. Little by little, Amélie realizes that the way to happiness (and yet more subtle humor) requires her to take her own initiative and reach out to others.

It's a french movie. The story may sound 'gay' but this movie is just great and transports a very positive feeling for life. It is tbh a mainstream movie in europe but i'm sure many people from outside have never heard of it.

    A Very Long Engagement

Five desperate men shoot themselves in order to be relieved from the horrifying frontline at the Somme, in WWI. A court-martial decides to punish them by leaving them alone in no-man's land, to be killed in the crossfire. Then all hell breaks loose and they all die. Or not? One of these men's fiancée, a young girl who can't walk since age 3, receives information that makes her suspect his boyfriend might have gotten away alive. So she embarks in a painful, long and often frustrating ordeal to find out the truth.

Another great french movie. It's a very unique mix of a war movie, comedy and a love story.

    Delicatessen

In a post-apocalyptic world, the residents of an apartment above the butcher shop receive an occasional delicacy of meat, something that is in low supply. A young man new in town falls in love with the butcher's daughter, which causes conflicts in her family, who need the young man for other business-related purposes.

I'm always searching for cool movies that not everybody knows. This is the thread to post quality foreign, independant or underground movies.

I recently watched these three movies and they are all Masterpieces!

    Oldboy

South Korean movie about a guy who was kidnapped for 15 years in a room without windows and only a TV and who wants revenge. Absolutely awesome. Gets 10/10 from me.

    http://%7boption%7d

    Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Also a south korean movie from the same director as Oldboy. It's a complex story about vengeance. Very weird, cool and brutal movie. Gets also 10/10 points from me.

    The Machinist

Spanish movie with Christian Bale. Its about a psychotic guy who hasnt sleeped for over a year. Gets 9/10 points from me. 10/10 for Christian Bale's acting.

As a kid i always understood the name of one of my aunts wrong. Instead of Annemarie i understood Amimarie ('Ami' is the german nickname for Americans). I thought so so often about what she could has to do with America but was too shy to ask. When i told this my family years later they laughed their asses off.

Sorry Peris but i can't see what the normal conflicts between generations have to do with this big huge criminal hip hop gangsta bullshit movement. Its so out of scale. It has not only to do with music and clothing. There is a uncivilized, inhumane way of thinking behind this gangsta shit. In former generations violent subcultures were a problem of a minority. Today it has become a problem of the mainstream. The media can be blamed to have at least a partly responsibility for this development.

    The Story

Two attempts has been made to build a bomb, capable of freezing the entire world into ice. The first was a failure, and resulted in a living blue ball. The second attempt was a success. Now the clock is ticking, and the world is in grave danger. That is, unless...

Without TV most people in europe wouldn't even know that "nigga gangsta rappers" exist. With this in mind its very logical to believe that TV gave them the inspiration to act like that.

As for the responsibility of the media, I don't really think it's the state's duty to enforce morality into the media. It always starts with good intentions and ends up being a slipperly slope to censorship and forced morality. The industry is best served when it self polices. But when the government gets involved to try to be everybody's parent, bad stuff always goes down. Morality gets politicized. Minority views gets squelched. It never ends well.

So yeah, if you don't like it don't watch it and don't let your kids watch it. If you want your range of influence to go any farther than that, send a letter to the TV station, complain to the broadcaster, or encourage your friends to boycott. But bitching fromt he sidelines doesn't help.

I have never said that the government should censor this. I complained about the idiocity of this TV channel.

And if you would have read my starting post: I actualy wrote a protest letter!

Just look at what MTV did to our cities, all these rapper gangstas populating our streets.

Thats a good example and damn true.

The problem is not the sex or that kids/teens see sex related stuff (i had a lot of porn mags when i was 12-13). The problem is that kids take this stuff so serious once they become fans. Look at all the teeny fangirls of boy bands. Now imagine teeny fans of this show. They will become totally mental retarded bitches imo. And thats sad because there are enough stupid bitches already.

If I were a parent, I wouldn't need somebody else to do my parenting for me. Apparently you do.

Thats a ignorant and egocentric view because you know as good as i do that millions of kids have horrible parents and there is no way to change this within a short time period. The TV station has a responsibility to make it not even worse for these kids.

Question: Do they show this show uncensored in the USA? With tits, fuckscenes and all that?

Sex in the City is a good show.

Thats your opinion about the show. But imagine you were a father. Would you like it when your kids watch it in the evening program? (the same daytime simpsons and comedy shows usualy were on this program)
