I didn't expect much from this when I saw a trailer in the past, but after playing the demo I'm thoroughly impressed! The screenshots didn't look great in my opinion but in game the game is quite beautiful and has a really cool and unique style. My PC does have a little trouble running everything as smooth as I'd like, but I'd pick this up on the Xbox instead so thats not really an issue. Thanks for suggesting it ![]()

New body is looking pretty good, though what is with the big black splotches on the tail? As gins said, the teeth look kinda odd. Makes me think more of a snake-esque creature than a dragon, though perhaps the tongue plays a part in that as well

I played 40k years and years ago, with both a Blood Angels army and an Eldar army. Given I like both those factions, who seem to be the main/only ones in the game, I should most likely pick it up some time

Funnily enough I can understand preferring 1 to 2 graphically, 2 just looks messy and fugly to me. AOE3 just looks...wow.

Psychonauts is a cartoony platformer/adventure type thing (or at least thats how it looked to me) that was due for release a long while ago but seemed to have trouble with publishers going down and all that malarky. You play as a psychic kid who is enrolled in some school for psychics or something, and find out other psychic kids are being kidnapped for their powers. As you can tell, I'm no expert on the game, so I'm quite possibly wrong with my assumptions
Seemed to garner a fair bit of praise from previews and stuff. -
Looks like the shoulder could use a little UV mapping improvement, all a bit stretched around there. Otherwise, well, I kinda liked the previous one a bit more to be perfectly honest. The new wing is looking really good but I think I preferred the colour of the scales in the older one.

Thats a strange taste you have to reach that opinion, but to each their own I guess

hamst3r - gotta love that the paths in the WoW screenshot you posted are quite a throwback to the ones in warcraft 1

Started playing "Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders" last night on the Xbox. My flatmate got it a while back but never played it much, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Very similar to Kessen or Dynasty Warriors, but with a better strategy element and a worse fighting element. Seems good so far, will probably continue playing it.
Otherwise, well I've still got some stuff to do in Rallisport 2, I play the occasional game of HL2DM (and that soon to pick up as the Snarkpit clan enters the HL2CCL league!), and for some reason I'm kinda back playing Headhunter: Redemption which I left unfinished ages ago. Really though, I'd just like to pick up a copy of KOTOR 2 - Republic commando got me in a Star Wars mood

Looking very very cool, and nicely original as well. Looking forward to seeing more of this

Hehe, looks awesome
I had an idea for a mario kart esque vehicle the other night for some reason but my attempt to model it ended in disaster and huge polycount
To be honest though, the concept was probably a bit beyond my current abilities. This is very inspiring to have a go at another one though, and while I've never tried trackmania, I'm quite tempted to give it a shot. -
Duke Nukem Forver.
Well really now, if it was such a good idea, somebody would have done it by now!

Surely that is hugely wasteful? I wouldn't think it wise to cover faces with materials that use expensive shaders like water unless they are actually meant to be using them. Cubemaps are hugely important as they capture the images used for specularity and reflection (though this might actually just be done by re-rendering the world, particularly with more detailed graphics settings). I don't think you can just put it all down to "silliness".

Saw this on CG Talk when I was browsing through recently, and this version is looking even better than the one I saw then. Texture looks not bad, especially if you are going for a somewhat cartoony esque style. Oh and what gins said makes sense to me, so I second it all

Not being sure of the quality of your work isn't necessarily a sign of your work being poor though Daan0. Some people are arrogant about their own work, some are confident, others are quite negative about it. All these three could have exactly the same quality of work, just different mentalities. Obviously its best to be confident (though not arrogant), but you could still be producing commercial quality stuff without thinking so yourself. One of the benefits of peer review and feedback, I always think

Yeah, more tessellation is pretty much adding more polygons. Meshes in most current engines use vertex lighting, meaning they pick up lighting data at the vertices and then get how bright to make each pixel by interpolating from the vertices across the face. If you have a large flat plane with vertices at the ends only, then there will only be a smooth gradient of lighting across the face. If there is a small object above the middle of the face, it will not cast a shadow on the face since lighting info is only taken from vertices. If you then broke this flat surface up into smaller sections, there will be more vertices from which the face is taking its lighting data, and so you will get more variation in lighting across the surface. The more poly's, the more accurate the lighting, but of course the less optimal the model. You need to balance out between tessellation and optimisation really.

Hmm, kinda tempting, but I've got a few months left at uni and I'm not sure it would be feasible for a US company to hire me from Scotland for a sorta educational/entry level position such as this. Good luck to any mapcore entrants

BTW, love the change from the website's...

Hmm, here is about the best I can do for an explanation...
Oktagone went down a while back, as mapcore denizens will no doubt be aware. Eventually it resurfaced, and while Mapcore wisely jumped ship to another host, the Snarkpit bided its time and looked for alternatives while recieving, as far as I know, free hosting in the meantime. A couple of weeks ago, the Snarkpit seemed to use up all its bandwidth, and a few days later the site was completely inaccessible. I'm told this was because Oktagone went under once again, and apparently for good this time. Lep got hold of alternative hosting at this point, but Oktagone's are, and I quote from overlord Leperous, "not willing or capable of giving us our snarkpit.com domain back". Therefore, until we manage to get a hold of our .com address, we will have to make do on the .net one. This could prove kinda tricky since many members won't know to check the .net version, so if people could spread the news so to speak, it would be appreciated

Not anymore
Ah the problems of ending a sentence with a URL... -

Snarkpit has finally resurfaced under a new host, but due to Oktagone inadequecies, we don't have the old snarkpit.com domain
Hopefully one day it will return, but for now at least, update any links or bookmarks to the new http://www.snarkpit.net . There is a new theme that is on by default, but if you preferred the black you can change to it through your preference settings in your user control panel. There are obvious issues such as missing images, files, and the like, but these will be fixed soon enough I'm sure
