Just bought and finished kill.switch (yeah, I'm a bit behind the times!)...in 3 and a half hours
I had absolutely no idea I was on the final boss, then I killed him and saw the credits role. Fairly good game, but it really didn't strike me as coming to an end whatsoever and after only 3 hours or so, thats hardly surprising!

Pandora Tomorrow multiplayer was something real special and has to be played between 4 reasonably experienced players to get the most out of, though it's single player campaign never really lived up to the first game in my opinion. I've yet to play Chaos Theory, but as it's only £5 in Game's deal of the day today, I may take advantage. New one certainly sounds interesting - they needed to do something different really and this sounds like one way to go about it. Does sound a bit Jack Bauer, but I doubt that is a bad thing

Bah, most people seem to use "next-gen" when they mean "current-gen", you knew what he meant

New shots are showing a lot of improvement if you ask me, with far more interesting building architecture. Keep it up

Funky stuff man. You make really nice looking renders, I need to look into how to do that

-
I feel like looking at those screenshots has taken me through 3 different maps or so. It needs more consistency in other words, but thats perhaps mostly down to the lack of detail to define the setting in most of the shots.

Very frustrating when you hit the end of a game so quickly. Sometimes games can get away with it simply by being awesome (ie. Ico, PoP games, Conflict:* games in 4 player coop), but at other times you are just left completely unsatisfied. After just 3 hours, it would be bloody had to find "satisfaction" I reckon

I didn't really think HL2 was all that short - on par with most modern FPS's I'd say.

My flatmate and I weren't all that impressed to be honest. It does look seriously pretty and all with its destructible environments, but nothing really happens from a gameplay point of view in the trailer. I hope that is just a biproduct of it being a trailer and not gameplay footage but I could be wrong. Anyways, just thought I'd offer a more sceptical, or at least less enthusiastic and excited, view of it so far
Doesn't really matter to me anyway though, as I'm not a big RTS player and not a big fan of the WWII era, meaning I'm clearly not the target market! Love the visuals though - that engine would be lovely for the Commandos games. Provided they stopped soldiers from facing the entirely wrong direction when throwing grenades that is

Hmm, I was thinking more collaborative things than just so-and-so writing an article. Like how gamespy and all that lot put up opinions from different editors and whatnot and can have, to some extent, a dialog going back and forth between people in the article.

Quote from Izuno
wait...idea brewing...this would take work, coordination yada yada, but what about a "Mapcore Article" or "Mapcore Analysis" or "Mapcore Review" every couple weeks about a hot new game or some industry development? We could possibly even conduct polls and runs some threads for members to comment on a particular topic, then we write up a good article on the subject with results of our quantitative/qualitative analysis/opinions. In the end, this could be a "hardcore gamer / game-designer" opinion about industry topic. Even a game review.
I like it. Immensely
Could be tricky to moderate if its a forum discussion, and would need a fair bit of editing if it was to be put into some sort of article format, but it's a neat idea. -
I watched the trailer for Bloodrayne, and lo and behold it actually looks like a normal movie! I'm many steps from saying good, but it didn't look "OMFG WTF LOL!" from the trailer alone, and that's a step in the right direction for good old Mr.Boll!

Well one way the make it more professional would be to drive out all the members who don't have industy jobs, but I'm assuming that that isn't quite what Ferret meant
On a more serious note, I think it would be hard to make a site both more professional and more newbie friendly - to give off an air of experience, skill and professionalism the place should really be made up of mostly experienced individuals, which somewhat contradicts the appealing to newcomers ideal. Having a serious and high-level community of experienced and talented people isn't going to appeal to newcomers as much as a down-to-earth, free for all, mixed ability community is. I don't mean to make out that they are entirely mutually exclusive, but I think it is a balance. -
I'd always imagined santa's house to be a bit more... magical. That just looks like an average 4 bedroom detached in a modern housing estate.

Currently it's too much of a 2D shape extruded to give it depth, but then it is early days

FFVII: Advent Children was pretty awesome, though probably doesn't really count given it's reliance on experience of the game to be truly enjoyable.

Wow - awesome map shots being posted and then mr.Banks showing up to comment! We are blessed today
Deckaux, I dig that like a ditch, and I mean that in the best possible way

I've never posted in EOT and ain't about to start now - I've no qualms with seeing it go, but at the same time it being there doesn't bother me.

What did I miss?

I don't think it's a redundant category at all - it's not as if there aren't enough of them and typically the difference between them and less realistic games makes it hard to compare them. Call of Duty and Medal of Honour are easy enough to compare, but if you try to liken it to HL2 or FEAR it becomes a little less fair. I'd likewise think that it's reasonable to offer categories like "racing simulation" for the Forza/GT4 type game and "arcade racer" for the Ridge Racer/Wipeout/Need for Speed crowd, as the differences between them make it very hard to compare them and there are normally plenty per year to fill out both.
What did you mean by your comment Lurker, that it wasn't deserving of the title or that the category is stupid?
By the way, I just want to say right now that I'm in no way sticking up for the awards show - I've never seen it and probably wouldn't care to!

Res Evil Apocalypse was a disaster - avoid it at all costs if you ask me. I say that as a fan of the first movie and the games

The overall effect of those shots is nice nexus, but if you add in some more detail to break up the repetition of the buildings it could be better still. Get some shit up on those roofs (things like satellite dishes, aerials, chimneys; anything to stop the shared and definate height that everything just stops at. The soft bloom effect from the HDR in shot 3 is lovely
