I enjoyed the demo (PC version), and while I can see where they are coming from with the comment about its similarities to FEAR - its hard to miss - I don't think thats a particularly good reason to stilt its scoring significantly. I'm planning on picking it up for the 360 rather than the PC, but I definately want to play it at some point either way.

  • I've been offered a job!

Hey guys, just thought I'd let you guys know that I've been offered my first games industry job! It's for a small company called Outerlight, who you may remember made the Half-Life mod The Ship. That was a prototype to test their game design and gauge interest, and though fairly rough around the edges, it showed a lot of potential. Since then they hired a fair few more people, licensed the Source engine, and are due for a release of the game proper on Steam sometime in May.

I spoke to them at a jobs fair and, due to my experience with the HL1 and Source engines, and my mix of design and programming abilities, they phoned me up a few days later and asked me in for an interview. That interview was a couple of days back, and while there are a few things I would have changed about it if I could, in general it went well. I heard back from them today and they made me an offer, which I took them up on.

The position is as a part of the design team, but I will also be involved in some (mostly design oriented) programming. To me this sounds just about ideal, as though level design is what I would say is my main career focus, I do enjoy programming and hopefully this position will offer me the best of both worlds.

I should be joining them soon after I finish my uni course in May - woohoo!

Its all looking good man. I particularly like the composition of the area shown in the first shot - interesting use of varying angles and height that looks natural rather than forced

Awww, you went and embarrassed Fetter by putting his name up in lights right at the start

Good presentation, I learnt a few things from it. I kinda wish I could go back and redo the job interview I had a couple of days ago, I suck at interviews

Architecture looks a little bland in this one, but the textures are still sexy as hell.

Looks like you had a good time klein, cool to see more 'core folks meeting up 2 and half hours is a fairly impressive talk - longest we've had at uni is just over an hour really.

Nice one Marque, best of luck with the article and the job search. I've read a few articles by you in Develop and they have been well written and interesting, so I look forward to seeing what this Gamasutra one is all about

I imagine the new Indiana Jones game will be an adventure, in much the same way as Tomb Raider or Prince of Persia games are adventure games. I always feel those types of games are far more rightfully defined by the "adventure" genre than point and clicks, as good as those were/are.

Good luck getting that position with LucasArts if its what you are after Ferret

There was a steam update the said it fixed an issue with some people not being able to preorder or something I think. Didn't really bother looking into it, as I didn't have any trouble preorder/preloading it myself. I'm not sure if its gonna be any good or not, but figure that for £12 or whatever it came out at, its worth a shot at least.

Probably post release on steam, maybe just before it comes out retail (they are planning that aren't they? I can't remember...)?

I've gotta agree with you on the design front - I'd have a Revolution sitting out in my living room over that monstrosity of design that is the PS3 any day. That said, I'll almost certainly end up with all 3 of them sat out in my living room, making my point a little redundant I can appreciate your love of Nintendo games - hell I'd rather have a new Zelda or Mario Kart than most games too - but it just struck me as a bit premature to be saying the Revolution has better games when we don't know of any yet. Then again, since when has Nintendo really let us down with first party franchises?

    ...better games...

Think you're jumping the gun a little on that statement I've no doubt there will be great games for the Revolution, but saying it has better games when we've yet to hear about ANY of them strikes me as pure fanboyism.

I'll probably buy one if it gets some great games and I have the money. In the mean time, I'll just keep on looking forward to getting my 360 after I graduate.

Not so bad if you break down management by delegating it through different people. Commander, Division Leader, Squad Leader, or something of the sort. Hierarchies for the win!
