Everybody who hasn't yet really needs to download and watch this video. It's absolutely amazing. I don't really know the story behind what, why, or how, but its basically a video somebody has made that mimics the old scrolling 2D beat em ups of the Megadrive era. Awesome awesome animation that deserves to be seen by all

Yup this is what I'm jumping into soon, but I don't start for a month yet so can't really shed much more light on it I'm afraid. As has been said, the HL1 mod was conceptually cool but obviously lacked in the art department particularly. It was made when there were only a few members on the team though, and was developed as a prototype for the gameplay, so shouldn't be judged too harshly as an actual game From what I hear, the full game for the Source engine is significantly more refined in not only visuals but also in gameplay, so it should be interesting to see whats new.

Personally I dig the art style they are going with. In the HL1 mod there were a few custom character models that showed great personality (eg. the bartender), but the presence of reskinned gman models and the like really detracted from the atmosphere. This time around everything is coherent and well realised, so it should have a nice unique feel to it. From what little I saw of the game running, they look to have put a lot of effort into making the environments charming and interactive, particularly as a continuation of the old needs system from the HL1 system.

By the way, they are taking beta test submissions at the moment, so if you are interested sign on up I got my form through a couple of days ago, but I'm not sure if it would be wise for me to sign up or not given the new circumstances

They just released a pack for the PS2 with Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4 in it for £30. Pretty damn good bargain, but as the only one I'm missing is 3, not much point in me picking it up really.

Been hearing a huge range of opinions about this movie, from regular folks and critics alike. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what I think when I get around to seeing it. Trailers have looked good though, so I'm relatively optimistic.

Love the room design, or what I can see of it anyway. Will be sexy as hell with a nice view out those windows

EDIT: Woohoo, I hit 1000 posts and didn't even notice.

Oh man, an American remake? Why do they have to try and put their stamp on good foreign films? I'm avoiding watching the US remake of French film Taxi like the plague - they not only changed the Mercedes gang into bikini babes, but switched uber-taxi driver Daniel for Queen Latifah - and I'm not exactly sure what to think about the remake of Hong Kong classic Infernal Affairs starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

I don't really think it should have been in classifieds or mod recruitment (the forums underwent some name changes lately to better reflect their purpose, hence the new name), but is probably better in game industry discussion. Maybe a moderator will move it if they see your concern.

Not too keen on that steel blue stuff - doesn't sit right with the darker stuff in my opinion.

What other languages have you tried Zacker? I noticed you seemed to mention c++/java in your post on the SoW forums, how long you been using them? I've never used VB myself, but in my school all we got to do was a little bit of pascal, so count yourself lucky

Yeah Supertimor was awesome, but for me it was the sock rockin' good Kissmeyer Basic that won out Mazy really stamped his mastery of HL1 mapping, particularly realistic stuff, with those two efforts. Only better in-game realisation of an office I've seen than Kissmeyer was in FEAR, but at least Kissmeyer didn't force you to spend hours upon hours running around it

Sorry for hotlinking to your images mazy, but hey, its done with respect

    I'll post more later.

Yeah that is much improved mate. The smaller nose and mouth made the world of difference. Its probably just down to taste, but I think she might look better with lighter clothing to contrast with her dark fur? Wouldn't be much work to test it out, but then chances are you already have and prefer the dark Nice changes anyway, congrats.

I love the verticallity of it all. Still looks a bit unlived in a lot of places though, and some surfaces (building on the left of the first shot being a prime example) look really flat and bland. Coming on really well though, looking forward to a beta.

I don't think open is a good idea - I think the theme should be tightened, not slackened off. I know it might limit entries, but I don't see the point in a contest where everybody can just throw in what they were working on anyway.
