  • Wii price announced...

Will probably be £150 in the UK then I'd wager, since it's very rarely accurate to the exchange rate. £150 is damn good though - I was thinking it would probably be a £199 rather than £150 so I'm happy with the news

I think it's turned out nicely. Looks far more impressive running than in screenshots - you've obviously put a lot of work into making the scene "alive" and the video demonstrates that. Waterwheels, windmills, flowing water, butterflies, trees swaying softly in the wind - it all looks a whole lot better moving than static. I really like it, and I hope I'm sure it will get plenty of developers interested in you Good luck with the job hunting mate!

The ti4200 was a fucking awesome card - provided me with 4 years of faithful service. Why do you say that the ti4600 lost nVidia it's fanbase Duffy? I thought that nVidia kinda ruled that generation, and it was the FX cards that were generally poorly recieved?

I was chatting to casual gamer mate of mine yesterday, and he was saying he was gonna get a 360 but has since decided to wait for a PS3. I then told him it was due to be £425, that GTA4 would be out on the 360 at the same time, and showed him PGR3, and now he isn't quite so sure

The problem is that companies in those countries can undercut prices by EU/US companies or individuals. If people here were doing contract work they would expect far more than the equivelant work done in China, India, or Korea. It simply isn't economically viable for people in the EU/US to take on the work for the same pay as those in less developed countries.

For important assets the companies may be willing to pay more to decrease risk (either by keeping it in-house, or by outsourcing to local - in a worldly sense - people), but for less important assets is it worth their money?

Art is one of the most commonly outsourced aspects of today's games as far as I'[m aware. Lots of places are able to take concept art and specifications and build you high quality work. Normally the core and unique art assets - main character models, big set pieces, etc... - are made by the core team, but incidental and common stuff such as prop models, car models, etc... are easily shipped to China or Korea, or even India or wherever.

Isn't there a flag or property in the lightglow entity that lets you specify that the entity itself is inside the world? I seem to recall using it before when your lights have big bulbs like that.

Lighting has made a big difference, but I agree with you that the dark areas look far too dark.

Well....there is coverage of the GDC, just in different circles. It's hardly relevant information for most consumers to know "how to successfully bridge the gap between technical and art teams", or "how GOAP can provide more dynamic and robust AI", after all.

Polaris - there is always TGS

Most impressive footage was probably the Crysis jungle video frie just linked to. Holy crap that looks good...just, ridiculously good. I can almost forgive the guy videoing it for the constant "oh my god"'s and "sick"'s

Supreme Commander has me interested in RTS games again - something that hasn't happened since, oh, Red Alert, Warzone 2100, and Total Annihilation.

Gears of War just looks fun fun fun. Really looking forward to playing that.

Also, Test Drive Unlimited and Forza 2 (even if the latter didn't show anything of worth) make me glad to be a racing game fan

Oddly, though it did look like a complete rip off of Max Payne, Stranglehold also had me drawn in. Hugely destructible environments and crazy over the top action.

Yeah I recall looking into Gameloft a while back. I believe they have a whole boat load of studios - a few in the UK at any rate. They are pretty much the kings of mobile games (with their Ubi ports being pretty much the best around).

While Halo's story may not have made a bestselling book, it is vastly more refined than most action games. Fair enough if you don't like Halo, but if you didn't like it due to its story being "boring, bland, and generally unappealing", I can't think of that many action games you would like.

Don't get me wrong, I know they have said it will be cheap, but I've seen a lot of people stating exact prices like fact lately. Fingers crossed it will be about £150, but lets not get our hopes up TOO high. $150 would be under £100 - that would be CRAZY cheap. I don't see it being much under $200 myself, but even at that it would be a bargain.

Will be interesting to see what RE game they have coming to the Wii - I doubt it will be RE:5 given that that has been announced for the other 2; the Wii probably won't be getting many PS3/360 games ported I don't imagine.

By re, do you mean Resident Evil csharp? If so, you couldn't be more wrong I'm afraid - RE5 was announced last E3 for the 360 and PS3 only.

Also, why are people saying "its so cheap!" when Nintendo haven't mentioned the price? Yeah, it is likely to be the cheapest, but people assuming prices is a little premature.

  • Halo 3...

Wow, I think that makes you unique Hydeph Wouldn't surprise me if they had sold more copies of Halo or Halo 2 than there are Xboxes

I really enjoyed both Halo games, particularly due to the lovely recharging armour system that encouraged you to keep going after just making it through an area rather than quick loading to do it again with the benefit of hindsight (or should that be foresight ) in the hope of retaining more health. It also really encouraged retreating for cover while your shield was down, and making crazy advances while it was up since you knew it would regenerate anyway. I can't compliment their approach the health enough really, it has a really profound effect on the gameplay. Not sure if I prefer the Halo 1 or Halo 2 system though, given they had slight differences.

  • PS3 Price and Controller Details

    • ReNo
    • May 9, 2006 at 5:09 AM

Who knows. People were thinking that cross platform games wouldn't be going to the Wii due to its use of a unique user input method, but with it having quite a lot in common with the PS3 controller now, maybe its a more likely thing? Not that the Wii's technical power can compete, but if low poly models, lower res textures, and simpler shaders are used, maybe it is a possibility. Could there be titles appearing on the PS3 and Wii, and missing out the 360? That's a scenario few would have imagined, and to be honest I still don't, but you never know!

In terms of what the PS3 games will use the new controller method for - who knows? Depends on developer support really. They demonstrated Warhawk - an arcade flying game - to debut the new controller, and apparently it was "used like a flight stick" (though I can't imagine very comfortably!). More info will be hitting over the next hours and inevitably days.
