  • Looking for a new pc case

Take a look at the range on Overclocker's website - its nice and easy to browse so you can find one you're interested in, and their range is pretty good.

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Cases.html

I'm planning on picking up a Thermaltake Armor case at some point - fairly utilitarian looking but in a good way Tips for choosing? Just read plenty of reviews I guess. There are loads of hardward modding sites that focus on cases so if you spot one you are interested in, just get on google and search for it and add +review -compare.

Yeah, thats for rendering CG movies and the like, I don't think anybody is seriously gonna buy that to use for gaming. Sounds pretty crazy good though!

  • Leaf nodes vs poly counts

    • ReNo
    • August 23, 2006 at 12:17 PM

2 leafnodes for every poly? That sounds ridiculous, indeed impossible, unless I'm misunderstanding the point. I tend to keep to as small a number of leafnodes as possible, having several hundred polys (including prop geometry) per leafnode in general. If a leafnode only has a few polys in it, whats the point in the leaf? You might as well combine it with one nearby if possible because there is never going to be any point in culling those few polys as the calculations involved in deciding to do so would be more expensive than just rendering them.

I'm not familiar with the unreal engine so perhaps their use of the term leafnode is different to that of the source engine. Could you link me to the article please?

You the man! But while "Universal Dance" does indeed swing the awesome stick with enthusiasm, "Roll Along" stole it and taught it several lessons. Gotta love the varying tempo through most of the songs - so cheerful and random! Oh and how could I forget "Vibri's Special Song"; that shit's getting played at my funeral.

Was 4D Driving the same game as Stunts (different names in different places or something)? I mucked about with the level editor in 4D Driving at a mates house many years before I got a PC = what a good game that was

I listen to quite a lot of emo style music, but I don't do it particularly when sad. But then I'm rarely sad, so I guess thats irrelevant If I were to be sad, and felt like some sad music would help me in some way, I'd probably throw on something by...

Was it 1.5 that came packed with Half-Life? If so, then me too. For some reason though I kept thinking that was 1.6 - or was that perhaps an update released not too long after? Not that it matters - I started with the one on the HL1 disk and thats all that matters really

I almost bought Brotherhood (it's just called that here in the UK) just the other day when I was out shopping, but went for "Seven Swords" instead. Not watched that yet, but with everybody vouching for Brotherhood's quality, I've a feeling I'm gonna regret my decision. I'll correct that little mistake soon enough though R-Point is definately on the list too - that sounds like a bad ass movie to me.

It's an odd thing that happens when someone is so enthralled by something that when there is a similarity with something totally unrelated, it must be copy-catting.

Thats a good point actually, and one I've fallen foul of myself in the past. Dunno how many of you will have seen the anime movie "Patlabor", but on watching it about 3 years ago I was completely reminded of the PS1 turn-based strategy game "Front Mission 3". Scene after scene I was drawing comparisons, many of which were tenuous at best but my enthusiasm for Front Mission 3 made me make a big deal of them and read into the similarities far too much.

That said, I do still think there are some noteable similarities between that trailer and HL2, regardless of whether it is coincidence, or inspiration and influence from either camp.

Indeed it is unlikely that HL2 was any sort of influence on the movie, but the point is there are clear similarities. You don't need to have been influenced by something, or be ripping it off completely, for there to be similarities. Some people seem set on giving the dismissive "what?" attitude, like some asshole at a party determined to make others look like jerks when they knew fine well what the person was talking about. I find it completely unbelievable that anybody could look at this trailer, having played HL2, and not think there are some fairly remarkable similarities.

Once Ancel has finished rekindling his fire with Rayman he'd better get on to making a game that lives up to BG&E's potential. It was such a good premise and hinted at such great things, but for me it never reached the heights it should have. BG&E scaled up to match something like The Wind Waker would be a beautiful thing indeed.

Depressed guy on a train in a near future, run down shell of a city, talking about how women can't conceive anymore, going on to police blockades and rebellious uprisings. Oh no, nothing HL2-esque whatsoever to see here, move along

The start of the trailer was VERY Half-Life 2 - I'm amazed that anybody who has played HL2 wouldn't agree. It kinda became more distant from the game as the trailer continued though. Sounds fairly interesting, but I rarely visit the cinema these days so I'll almost certainly be waiting for the DVD.
