I heard there is Wii info coming on the 15th of September - hopefully confirming the launch dates, game lineups, and pricing structure so that shops can get those preorders going. If not then, I guess it will be at TGS a week or so later. I've not found anywhere taking them in the UK yet Izuno, dunno if the situation is the same in the US.

Will be interesting to see if MS are willing to do some post-christmas price cuts on the 360 come March, to make it even more appealing against the uber-priced, late arriving PS3. They were understandably wanting to keep it as it stands for Christmas, but I think they might be a little more willing to drop a little off afterwards.

Tis a crying shame - you'll be missed Steve, may you continue your exploits in the next life

I never understood the world's fixation on Yankee caps - there are plenty of other designs out there, is it really fashionable or something to be one of the unsurmountable army sporting that specific hat?

I think Cannon Fodder is a perfect fit for the PSP - looking like it may well be an essential purchase

Even if you work for a small company you might not see a lot (if any) of the sale money return to you so...The only real benefit good sales have for you as a dev is that the company wont go bankrupt....doesnt sound right to me, it should benefit me as a dev because I made the game. I as a dev should not have want to have a high number of sales only because I am affraid I might end up without a job. I should have that motivation because I want to earn the money for the all the work I performed.
Aaah, now I see your point - I was taking your comment that the developers aren't seeing a return on the sales to mean the development company, rather than the singular developers. In this case you're definately correct - I don't think very many places at all give any sort of royalties system to the actual developers these days, beyond a bit of a bonus on a successful game perhaps. Its not a nice situation but, well, we gotta deal with it really. That said, I think losing your job because the company goes bankrupt is a good enough incentive to want the game to sell well rather than find "success" through piracy.

I personally don't care at all if people download the games I worked on since most of the time we as dev's don't see a penny of the sale anyway.
Fair play if that is true for you, but you can't just make a statement like that and assume it applies for us all. Working for a small company, I can say that we are very much dependant on revenue from sales.
Quote from HourencesAll those people who think so holy of themselves shouldn't download any mod.
I think this is a fair point, but I don't agree with it. I don't pirate games, as though they are fairly expensive, they are still very much within the price bracket that makes them affordable to average people. Photoshop or 3dsmax? I don't think so. $3000 or something around that mark means that these aren't products aimed at enthusiasts, and it is enthusiasts that make mods. Your point that it is through the piracy of these products that our industry is what it is today is completely true, but you can't take that argument and say it also means pirating games is ok - that just isn't a logical step. I'm against pirating games but I don't mind so much when a software developer has their product used by people who were never potential customers anyway.

I was one of the people who found it very off that Vivi said he was gonna pirate CoH, as frankly, I didn't see why it would be a joke. Now, as you rightly predicted Skjalg, I'm not perfect for buying all my products, and I've obtained plenty of things, particularly music, through...other means. That said, as I work in the games industry, I find it rather ridiculous not to support that industry by buying games, and I would hope that everyone else in the industry does the same.
Yes, I completely acknowledge they are expensive. Way back in the day I used to pirate loads of Amiga games - as a primary school boy there was no way I could afford to buy many at all and the ease with which I could get copies made it very hard to resist. Once I got into secondary school I got a PS1 and from that point I did start buying everything - perhaps because it wasn't quite so easy to pirate, but that is somewhat besides the point. Since then the only games I've pirated were rare or obscure games I wanted to get after a system's demise - finding Rez, Vib Ribbon, or Skies of Arcadia through any official channels that would help support the developers was just, well, impossible.
I do appreciate that I'm somewhat hypocritical by whining about game piracy while dabbling in it a bit with other media, but my problem with it is just how short sighted and self-defeating it seems to pirate games while planning to work (or already working) in the games industry.

thats a huge missile
He says that to all the mods
To be honest I don't think it looks like the most exceptional of modifications, but it does look solid. As you have (for me at least) excused there isn't a whole lot here to differentiate it from BF2, but nothing here would look out of place in BF2 either, which is (probably) a compliment. One question though - whats with that waterwheel? I can appreciate its meant to be a frozen over wasteland or something, but that doesn't look like it was EVER in the path of a river.

You better start buying games before your fellow Gearbox members lynch you.
Quoted for truth. I find it quite incredible that you can work in the games industry and still be willing to pirate games. If you were grabbing ISOs of old Dreamcast or PS1 games you couldn't get ahold of elsewhere I'm sure people would understand, but brand new games? Thats just not right. I hope and trust that once those generous Gearbox paychecks start landing in your bank account those game torrents will be a thing of the past

One thing bothers me about this game. The soldiers seem to be able to walk faster than bullets. Look at them storming omaha beach.... ridiculous.

I'm not laughing at them moving quicker than the bullets by the way - I've just never heard somebody say the word "shingle" so frequently before

Really does look rather ugly doesn't it? Looks too bubbly, clean, and executive at the top of a box like that - not like an entertainment product at all.

Hehe, I love how that movie doesn't have the good parts (Boardroom fight) and how its totally randomly cut.
Yeah I must say I could have done with a little more action from it. I love the style and strolling through that club/rappeling down the building looked great, but it would have been better to see the outcome of doing so. That video gives a good indication of what to expect from the game, but not really in terms of the actual gameplay. Those scenes could have been cut-scenes - they were transitions between gameplay segments rather than gameplay segments themselves.

Yay, it really DOES look awesome. Douse me completely with the excited hose...and please god appreciate that there was no intentional inuendo included in that sentence.

It needs to come out in the UK first
Just two weeks to go though... -
120mm? Pfft, how about 250mm? Sometimes case manufacturers don't know when to stop

Given that it's (temporarily) free I'm pretty impressed. Would be nice to have the option of skipping hands when you fold in single player to speed things up a bit, but otherwise it does what it does pretty well. I'm a shit poker player so it's a nice opportunity for me to try and improve a little
