Wow, thats hugely impressive given the relatively short amount of time the Wii has been out. If thats indicative of the sort of community work on the PC we can expect from the Wii controller it definately adds to the appeal of the system.

I'll buy one once it gets more games, but there's nothing worth spending the £500+ you're gonna need to get a reasonable bundle on the system at the moment. Motorstorm is the only launch title that I'd really like to get my mitts on ASAP.

Somebody emailed this link around at work and I decided it's a little too awesome not to share
One of my mates is absolutely obsessed with the thing - can scarcely drag him away from it when he's round my house these days!My personal favourite has been "Rock 'n Roll Equestrian - Total War"

Goldeneye, Beetle Adventure Racing (....seriously), F-Zero 64, Mario Kart 64.
Also, buy Blast Corps if you can find it. Its not multiplayer, but thats irrelevant. Its pure god damn awesomeness and utterly unique. As a fan of games, you deserve to play it.

Wow, nice one man! Really hope you get in with them, as Riddick was awesome and it sounds like The Darkness is shaping up the same way

Woohoo, welcome to the 'core!
On that note Koko, would be quite interesting if forums had an active members stat. To qualify for it somebody would need to have posted in the last 30 days, or something along those lines.

Very District 13-esque.
Only with the Knights Templar, SWAT teams, and superpowers instead of parkour.

Some really cool looking stuff coming out of this contest - the HLDM community is gonna be lovin' mapcore after the deadline rolls around
Still exceedingly tempted to have a crack at something myself, but we'll see if that temptation actually spurs me to action or not! -
The house on the left looks a bit wierd - the chimney and the wall textures don't mesh very well IMO. Also, I wouldn't trust a train moving along those tracks!

I find it near enough impossible to want to do more level design in my spare time, and hell, I've only been working 7 months
It's a shame, as there are things I'd like to make that my work doesn't allow for, but when I get in from work I just wanna chill with some mates, watch a movie, or play some games. I find opening up hammer to do some side projects very low on my priority list. -
Currently playing 2 games in particular...
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is my current multiplayer of choice. Me and 3 mates are playing through it and loving (nearly) every minute. I really enjoyed X-Men Legends and this is a fitting continuation. Buy this if you want a coop title to play through with friends as it is pretty much the best 4-player coop game on a single console that I can think of. Deadpool FTW, BTW

Just got and started playing Lost Planet too. Loved the demos so I knew what I was getting here, and so far so good. What has surprised me though is the difficulty level - granted, I'm playing through on hard mode, but not many games make me retry as many times as I have here on the first proper level! Strangely though I'm really enjoying the challenge, and for now I'm resisting the lure to drop to a lower difficulty. This big bloody moth boss I'm stuck on just now might be the end of that stubbornness though!

In places, this reminds me a lot of the mansion in Gears of War. My compliments
I agree with the comment that there is a whole lotta brown in there though, leading to a rather monotonous look, particularly in places like...[Blocked Image: http://freak.eqil.de/portfolio/images/content/resident7.jpg]

Also, you've got some very inconsistent texture scales, such as on the wooden floor here...

I like all the changes, its coming on well. I think you should at least try putting some sort of buffer/trim between your pipes and your walls though, because it looks really rather poor where they just meet with no intermediate step.

You're looking for some pedantic workaround there aren't you Hessi - the point of this contest, though rather questionable IMO, is clearly to make a level with only one light source

Not too sure about the snow overlay on that grate in the last shot. Any way you could make it so that the holes in the grate don't have snow over them? Only way I can think to do that would be to make a bespoke version of that snow overlay with holes in it through it's alpha channel, which isn't exactly an ideal solution. I think it would probably look better with no snow on the grate than the snow that is currently there though. I agree that the orange is looking nice in that shot - would be cool to try and emphasise it a little

I looked at one picture and was gonna agree with you Fletch, but then I saw several others and god damn, a whole lot of the time she really isn't! Wierd face she has in a lot of photos...

In the first shot those daisy's look way too tall to me. Given that the grass has no depth, they stand out too much to look natural. In the second shot you seem to have dropped the height a bit which is good, but I'm not keen on the colour variations personally. Still, doesn't hurt to have them available, as its easy enough to modify the detail prop stuff so it only uses the ones you want

Quote from von*ferret
reno: I wouldn't call it cheating, I'd call it a complete time line of when I started and where I was a couple of months ago. The thread is supposed to be examining how far we've all come, how better way then looking at all of your work?

Yeah yeah Ferret, any excuse to show the rest of us up

As for an HL1 contest? Sounds fun! Will be painful going back to the old hammer though...

I think you could do with reworking the snow pile displacements a bit - they look rather oddly shaped at the moment, but maybe that's just me. I second Koko's comment about the volumetric light too - seems a little too harsh, especially considering that it doesn't appear to be very bright at all outside.
Nice non-Source feel to the whole affair though. I think those textures are doing a rather stellar job
