How about a map using the dev textures only?

Quit posting in here now you've got your own thread Method, you're hogging the limelight Seriously though, this thread is for early WIP stuff that isn't developed enough for its own thread, so it seems kinda strange for you to still be posting in it now you have one. But hey, maybe I'm the only one that thinks that

It wasn't exactly ideal either though MrBaracuda - we had no idea how many people were gonna throw in their thoughts on that one (a few people did, then a couple more, then...were we waiting for more, or stopping there?), nor had we agreed on any sort of judging panel (without meaning to sound a bit of a dick, we had no idea who some of the people contributing numbers were). The voting should have been better organised, no doubt, but lets just put it down to experience, set a voting deadline, and get this map pack put together at last.

Is that a Source engine map? Some references in the file look like it (sky name, detail sprites...), but that isn't a Source VMF as I recognise it - none of mine look anything like that. Because of that I took a quick look at an old HL1 .map file and the format of your VMF is almost identical. So...what's going on there then?

Are you sure you've got no autosaves? I had a bit of a panic with weaver's save file corrupting, and when I used hammer to try and open an autosave it didn't have any versions of it listed. Browsing there in windows however showed that there were autosaves, they just had a .vmf_autosave file extension which meant hammer wasn't showing them. I'd never had to use an autosave before other than at work, where our version of Hammer just uses the standard .vmf extension for autosaves, so I figure you might have fallen victim to it too.

Bloody hell man, can't you just accept that different people like different things? It's remarkable - I don't even play/like WoW or any other MMO's, and your post still manages to piss me off

Keep it 1/5 - makes it easier with a smaller range of numbers to pick from. I also think "gameplay" and "fun" are a bit too similar - Insta's groups of visuals, gameplay, performance and originality, or something along those lines, would probably be better.

So if that is how it were to go down, would we gonna elect a set of people to do it? I've not a particular preference of who, but I think it should be long term members or moderators rather than just the first 4 people to come along and post some numbers Might be nice to do this in addition to a poll so that other forum members can have their say.

Whatever though - I don't really care what happens with winners etc... but it would nice to get it done and get a pack out. Maybe then we could try and get it pimped on Valve's update news - they sometimes seem to struggle for content so it doesn't seem too far fetched a possibility.

    EDIT: Ooooh 1500th post!

I think that is probably the best way to do it in terms of all maps/authors getting useful feedback rather than a useless "0 votes", but it might be another while before we get this all finished up if that is how it goes down.

Think it was agreed that it would start on Monday, so that people had this weekend to playtest the levels and decide on their favourites. That said, I've yet to really see anybody at all in the server, besides a couple of occasions earlier in the week. So is anybody actually going to be able to judge on how they play, or is it gonna come down to basing it on screenshots or, at best, a quick run around the level on your own?

Don't you need to drag things from their inventory into their barter box? I think it will say your leather jacket is worth $300, but that only means you are allowed to drag $300 worth of their inventory into their trade window to match the value. So if they don't have anything, or don't have 300 worth of stuff, then you can't sell your jacket to them for full price. If you don't drag anything from them, you will be giving them that $300 jacket for free.

Been a long time since I played Fallout, but I think that is how it works.

  • New 3D feature in Hammer?

    • May 3, 2007 at 3:20 PM

It's one of these features I've not really seen mentioned anywhere, but it has been in for a while now. I enabled it accidentally at work not too long after I started and figured it must have been a feature of our internal version of hammer, but when I checked it at home, sure enough it was there too. Odd it hasn't been documented at all seemingly, but then it isn't something that is all that useful really.

I agree - keep this deadline. It's moved several times already and after a point it gets unfair on those who worked hard to meet the earlier ones. I'm sure many of the maps would be a lot better with an extra week's work, but there would still be people complaining about the deadline when it next rolled around. I think we should bring an end to this one and move on to new things.

Time forced a sacrifice in my map, so there are no longer 4 floors. The top floor was gonna feel rather out of the way anyway, so scrapping it might not hurt gameplay as much as help it. Think I'm gonna call it a night and do the final push tomorrow; mostly just a bit of spit and polish anyway. Well, besides the rather important steps of putting in sounds, spawns, physics props and weapons that is Lets not be perfectionists people - get your maps in in whatever form you can manage by the deadline!
