    "like challanges" (challenges)

"who work as a programmer" (works)

" for Bajoum a company that make childs games" (missing comma)

"The main engines I work with is Unreal and Source." (are)

    "unrealeased " (unreleased)

    "alot" *(a lot)

    "backalley" (back alley)

    There may be more.

"Here are some of the levels I've done using the Unreal engine."

Kind of obvious no? Adds additional clutter. Same for the other pages. If you are going to add an intro, write a meaningful intro. "Here is something" is not.

I don't think the frontpage left bottom UT picture is very nice, but it is on the front page, so you basically present it as your best screenshot.

I saw the safe house levels in real life at your desk, I don't think the screenshots of it on your website really portray the level correctly. It doesn't look appealing on the screenshots. I would also consider adding videos to show your scripting.

I personally don't light bright sites if most of your content is dark. The white will make it harder to view dark screenshots. The UT prison especially, i'd consider brightening them a bit in photoshop.

Google sites supports making a banner? Would be better than just text at the top of the page.

I think your resume is kind of plain. It barely even mentions games. Lots of other stuff, but little on games. If you will apply to a game studio I would consider focusing solely on what is game related, and also adding non profit (mods) projects to your resume. Add more details what you did. What responsibilities. Spice it up. You can leave the normal jobs for a little section somewhere and be done with those. Sell yourself and what you have done in the past more.

It is not really scripting IMO. It is really close to proper programming. At least for me, from artist POV. So the question is, can you program? Math and all that.

It is comparable to java (not javascript - real java)

Scripting. Look at all mods that exist for any UT game. All of that was done with scripting.

Look at the example games on the UDK page. Those too are just scripting.

Its like modding. You get engine/editor/Unrealscript. But you can't recompile the whole engine and have source code access. Just like a mod. Just like Unity.

You can however build a stand alone build, including installer, for your game, and distribute that. That copy would require nothing. Not even the UDK installed.

Not quite, but almost, its free for game applications for the first $5000 in revenue, then for revenue above that they pay the 2,500 and the royalty. At least thats how I read the licensing page commercial terms...

    http://%7boption%7d (6th paragraph down)

    # A team creates a game with UDK that they intend to sell. After six months of development, they release the game through digital distribution and they earn €15,000 in the first calendar quarter after release. Their use of UDK during development requires no fee. After earning €15,000, they would be required to pay Epic €2,500 (€0 on the first €5,000 in revenue, and €2,500 on the next €10,000 in revenue). On subsequent revenue, they are required to pay the 25% royalty.

No, 25%. The 2500USD is only for people who do not make games like posted before.

The 2500 in this example simply is 25% of 10 000.

I normally already sended your email to my teachers in Digital Arts & Entertainment. (BE)They once said they were looking for a new teacher or just for a workshop.

I don't know if they already contacted you. but if you want I can hear if they are still looking for someone.

I think they got a new teacher already. And I am already talking to them. The plan is to go by in March for a week. But thanks!

A stand alone demo build of The Ball is now available, operating on the very latest version of the Unreal Engine.

    [Blocked Image: http://www.nijnka.com/hourences/theball/images/udk.jpg]

Over the past few months we had been working with Epic Games on porting The Ball to the brand new UDK. That got released today. The Ball UDK Demo is one of the example games that showcase this new engine license from Epic Games.

    http://udk.com/showcase-the-ball.html

The demo consists of two levels. One brand new survival level. And one 40 minutes long singleplay level. The singleplay level is basically a compilation level made from parts of Pehua, Oztoc, and Hueca.

    http://download.udk.com/UDKInstall-TheBallDemo.exe

We hereby also announce that we will turn this project into a full and stand alone indie game, with an expectant release in spring 2010.

The 2500USd is only for non game applications.

If you make a game it is entirely free, but you pay 25% revenue share.

May I remind you that it is you who has almost no actual professional experience yet ignores all points I make about what is IMO best for someones career and what would increase their chances as a beginning professional?

    Ignorance what?

So don't go into that direction, thanks.

In any case you illustrated the entire problem of teaching without having actual experience. A few rare exceptions aside, it is very difficult to educate people into something you have little experience in, and not just because of the actual (or lack of) knowledge about the subject in question, but also because it takes a long while to gain a solid understanding of the industry and the problems it faces, its expectations, it (many) shortcomings, and develop your vision required to make a difference and overcome those issues, to truly guide students into their career and fostering their dreams and ambitions and help them achieve those. And that is something that goes well above "bare basics".

Many experienced people in the industry think that the current education available is not adequate. One of the most cited reasons is that students know too little and too many general things upon graduating. How will you tackle that perception? How will you improve the chances of your students getting work upon graduating?

A general problem is also that there are more educations available than there are companies almost. It already is difficult to get a job in this industry as a graduate because of the sheer number of interested people. This is somewhat dependent on location too, but still, with the amount of competition available, and the ever increasing amount of competition within our sector, "bare basics" is surely not going to cut out the competition?

Dont understand me wrong, I am very happy that you got this great opportunity and you did well in accepting it and I hope you do well. But do not turn a blind eye on the actual needs of the industry, and the problems that are in between todays industry and a mature games industry, and the latter is a responsibility we all carry.

No offence but you are saying you go to a uni to learn the bare basics of something and not to become professionals? Exactly how will those people find a job later on then? Exactly why would you want to go to a uni to learn the basics if you could just as well follow a one year education somewhere? To get a nice paper that says you completed a uni so you can please your parents?

The dictionary defines a uni as "an institution of learning of the highest level".

I thought a university is suppose to make you ready for a job, a starting expert, and is suppose to give you a serious training that is well above the level of all other kinds of educations.

I have seen many many many stories come by of people who attend a level design (or whatever) class and the teacher is still learning the editor himself while teaching. Or people who teach in schools but never actually made any kind of game themselves or at best worked a mere few months in a studio. That is really damaging for the reputation of educations, and that is why many are being totally ignored by many professionals or even looked down on, in turn affecting often blindly enthusiastic students. And that is a huge problem within our industry that should really be resolved over the next 5 to 10 years if we want to mature as an industry. And that is something that, being in the position to do something about it, you should really try to at least improve throughout your career as a teacher.

I think people should certainly keep in mind if something is indie. If they do not, they will kill indie games as no one will bother trying to fight the impossible battle.

On the other hand, this particular game portrays itself as a fullblown game and thereby effectly puts itself on the line with big budget titles and that is a fight they can't win. If they had released this for half the price, and portray themselves as indie they would have gotten further I believe.

    It is all about perception.

Thanks guys, looks like I'm going in the right direction. Just need to add more modeling. I'm not that good at making my own assignments though, really I could do with offering free work for people. Would have to be quite casual as I could have to up and leave at any moment, any of you guys know of any exciting mod projects that could do with a few props/environment content?

My project can always make use of some additional env models. It would be as casual as you want it to be. Things we need are meso american statues, some copper machines and such, an entire rusty UFO, simple things such as a big firebowl, etc.

We have a strong art style and doing really well in general. http://theball.toltecstudios.com

The design is sufficient for me. It's clean and fast, enough for me...

I would go for a dark background color though. If you have dark levels, which you have, the white will blind you and make it harder to see whats on the screenshots.

I consider seeing older (not bad, just old) work a plus. It shows someone has been around for a while. It shows someone started out in the mod community. It shows the person can, in this case, work with BSP. It shows the person can handle several themes and styles.
