Taking the most enjoyable movie I have seen in my life, and taking the most enjoyable experience with a game that I ever had, I would say that games take me deeper than movies.

Games are definedly an artform, yes, they serve different purpose from movies, poetry, paintings, but I wouldn't compare them all together anyway, a painting can never achieve what a movie can, but movie can't achieve what a poem can, and poem can never achieve what a game can.

It is interactive, and it has a set of rules (or boundaries if you will) but does it lessen the effort to made in the game? Does it lessen the artistic view of the developers? No.

The same boundaries and group effort can be found in movies and theater too, boundaries where they can't do everything imagination can, and there are different parts that make up the whole. So what I think is, that if you don't consider game to be art, then you are fool to consider any other modern media as an art.

They are experiences defined by that set of rules. I agree that some of the elements in a game could be considered art (soundtrack, aesthetics), but the whole "games as art form" movement seems a little pointless to me.

So you would say that a painting isn't art because it is painted on a surface? Surface which could be stone, wood or fabric, so is a wall art? Or pair of pants?

The rules are just part of a whole, just like in painting, the surface is meaningless when compared to the combination of surface, paint and the story that the painting is trying to tell. Maybe none of the parts itself can be considered art per se, but just like many great things, when combined, it's more than the sum of it's parts.

One must define first, what IS art, and then when the proper defining factors are clear, then we can say what is art.

What is art is individual, everything is art, thusly, nothing is art, art is all.

I think Lord of the Rings was better, since Tolkien went for the trouble and actually invented a brand new world that has inspired thousands of other fictive worlds.

Bible has pretty boring world, and the whole talking consciusness or "god" was done way better by worm in Irvine Welshe's Filth.

I give props to the distribution system who, few books have whole countries aligned behind them to promote it. I'd like to meet that authors publicist, maybe he could cut a great deal for my coming book.

It's easy to remember what season which episode goes here in Finland, even as popular series as X-Files or even Simpsons, there are like 3 month pauses between seasons for reasons not understandable by mere mortals.

Easy answers vs. Hard facts = Religion vs. Science

Religion is intended as absolute truth, no questions asked. And religious leaders condemn anything else as hypocrisy.

Sure, when we speak in terms of average person who is not actually religious, and maybe has some opinions about if Jesus was a carpenter or not, but there is no choise of being christian and not believing that god exists.

And I saying that two persons thoughts can't be carbon copies is just splitting hair, ofcourse they can't, individual beings and all. But I AM saying that if you are religious, you believe in the religion, if you don't believe in it, you are not that religious and might sway from your belief anytime.

Well, they finally published the preliminary tests, and first impression is that they are easy, easier than last year atleast.

I'm going to doodle away the next three months and check out if I can come up with something good to apply, then I will try (it only costs me 5 points from the programming school so doesn't really matter). But if my output is as crappy as last year, I won't apply, but I got around 10 weeks to do something, so atleast I got the time on my side.

With widespread I didn't mean the actual science, but actually the thought of science, some might believe in gravity, but not in evolution, and so on.

With religion, you either believe one thing and only one thing being an absolute truth, it is the main requirement of being a "believer".

With science, if something doesn't fit, I can just think about it myself, not just accept it as wrong as I see it just because I don't have the balls to actually think different.

Also bright monitor that shows several spinning red squares on a green background compared to a bright monitor with soothing pastel colors is very different.

My work setup is color calibrated monitors in a room with day light fluorescent lights. Home, it's just standard CRT monitor and a energy saver lamp, the difference is notieable.

Look, even if I knew that going with high school would have given me better footing when applying to EVTEK, I still wouldn't trade my current profession away, I love my job, and I'm very good at it.

Atleast my vocational school education has given me the possibility to study the things they teach in that school by myself, as opposite of going to high school and not knowing anything about graphics at all.

Scientific front is pretty widespread and ununified to be considered anything like a religion.

I had my heart set on going through some sort of higher education from the very beginning. But also, I wanted a profession, illustrator to be precise, because a man without a profession is not a man at all.

And, as much as I love studying, I wanted to havea job in the middle of my studies, and by job, I mean something else than flipping burgers or working at local Siwa.

Besides, most polytechnic shcools (or vocational high school, what ever) are easier to get from vocational shcool, just like UNIs are easier to get from high school, but there are some exceptions like EVTEK. Like the programming school I'm going to apply, I actually have equal and some points, even better chance to get in than high school students.

So basically what I did, was I opted for more possibilities than I would have had if I went for high school. Graduating from high school and not getting in to any school after that would basically mean that you live at your parents house for another year. One month after vocational school, I had a job with good pay and my own appartment and I could afford to buy neat things like new cell phones and the best internet money could buy and so on, you get my point.

X-Files, first season, was a pistol... nuff said.

Frie puhlees, can you tell meh, if the new engine will be similar to the current Cryengine in moddability, will it use sandbox? Lua for scripting? Can you mod the new engine if you know how to mod the old, as easily?
