I think Mike is the Shizznitz!

That single tutorial helped me more than all other tiling texture tutorials put together. Maybe you and some other would make tutorials of your workflow how to make handpainted textures, man-made and natural.

In my opinion, the company that has not made a single bad game, Relic, has announced their next new game.

Not much information is available, but what is known is that it will be a WW2 rts based on their next-generation engine 'Essence' and it will feature Havock Physics Engine. They are promising dynamic battlefields and deep singla player action.

From the beginning Relic has been a company which products have been supreme quality all out, and maybe someday I might be working for them if I'm lucky.

And Kosmo aren´t you the little patriot. Max Payne was a masterpiece but tbh Max Payne 2 was only a graphics update with another storyline, but then again aren´t all sequals?

Well yeah, I wasn't going to put Max Payne 2 on that, but then again, I had tons of laughs and great moments with that game so it's a great game, surely beat some ass with good size story. The minus being like every other game like this, there is no replay value, just like HL2, didn't even go near it with a stick after playing it through.

Can't really compare FarCry and HL2 graphics with eachother, I don't even put them in the same league there, FC had too much of that sugar, with all the "Look at the beautiful lush forests we have, please! Don't look at out thin story", but yeah I can agree, HL2 had some of those moments too, actually it had much more of those "Take a lick on our snazzy puzzle and forget that this part of the story just doesn't add up" or "Hey check out this cool piece of gravity defying weapon and forget that we designed the whole game around it, just like Halo and Xbox".

Ofcourse the picture was the worst one of the pack of screens, I saw and error there and wanted to use it as leverage to bash this game, since I have seen that same error in a million other games.

Western Arms have some great pistols, but their models are all lame, no revolvers nor Glocks, just those basic pistols. And here they don't even have the price advantage, they seem to have in some other countries.

But if you want a basic 1911 (the most boring hand gun in the world) and there is the price advantage then it's a good buy.

As a something as a musican myself (I fiddle around with keyboards), I have come to hate genres, they make our life easier to define bands to people who haven't heard of the band, but these days it's way too complicated, there are way too much genres, and what makes it ever harder to use them to define a band is the fact that the genres have very little difference with one another and if you haven't heard of any band in the genre, well it's not much use to you to set a band in a genre you haven't ever heard of now is it.

Second, genres push people away from some style of music, and they miss something they might have liked just becuase they have something against the genre or other bands in it.

Metal is one of the worst examples here, there are more genres than there are bands, and to be honest, you can only hear difference when you listen bands from either end of the metal sub genres, the ones in between are like nuances away from each other.

You seem to be slamming things that are shiny... and nothing else...

Yeah, I am and it's for a reason, there are several games out there that actually look just the same (not actually higher polycounts, not higher texture resolution) but they have taken the game from last year, done some neat lighting tricks with pixel shared 2.0 and added a physics engine and voila they think they have a game there.

I'm glad that the very small but noticeable change of gamers heart for rich story over flashy graphics, many developers are again looking at the direction of adventure games, especially after when they noticed how many gamers were posting their opinions about Lucasarts dropping the Sam & Max and Fullthrottle games on various boards across the net, some even went for that far that they said they'll boycott Lucasarts and Lucasfilms products for these (even tho I wonder why, Lucasarts and Lucasfilms have very little in common). I just wish that this kind of gamer mentality, should put those no talent game developers out of business who only know how to copy and add sugar to their games.

Now I don't mean that there have not been genuinely intelligent and groundbreaking concept out there, like for example, Stalker, seems to be a game with some very nice story and alot of content, reminds me of a Finnish masterpieces Max Payne and Max Payne 2. Games should be like that, and not like Doom3 or the latest Medal of Honor.

(disclaimer. these are opinions and opinions may be discussed but they may not be changed, if you have problem with these, go call santaclaus)

I have been "softing" for a while, haven't bought much gear, a pistol (glock 26 blow back) and a SMG (P90) mask and some clothes for summer and indoor missions, and I have gone over 1000euros.

I have bought all my guns and gear from Marui, it's easily the best company, tho it's toys cost you a leg. But it's like buying a tablet and NOT to buy one of Wacoms, so pay more and go for quality.

Well HL2 had the combine jail levels, those were bitches. But if you want good jail reference, you could watch "The Rock" and "Dirty Harry The Enforcer" for references of Alcatraz, prob the most famous prison in the world.

Well, now that we are getting closer by the day of the anticipated release of Mac OS X Tiger (7 days says apple.com) I'm glad to announce that if Steve Jobs says something, we can take his word for it (well some things, you shouldn't take the guy too seriously).

As he happened to say at Macworld Expo 2005 "Mac OS X Tiger will come out long before Longhorn" and he kept that promise and I have to say that when Mac OS X was released, I was impressed, and now again, I'm impressed actually even more, the sheer genious design behind this is just mind blowing. I'm sorry to say to you all, but my next upgrade is going to be new 3d studio max, adobe creative suite and a Mac.

Well MS has somewhat sured that Adobes next GoLive will be useless if they go with their narrowminded theory that CSS2 is flawed and won't add it to IE7, everyone knows how Adobe relies to CSS on it's GoLive products, it's the main attraction on the GoLive CS2.

Well, I'm not a bit suprised that MS is ignoring CSS2, it's not their invention, nor did they develope it, NOR do they support any standards at all. What I don't understand is why MS is alienating the whole design community with their bad decisions like this, knowing that only thing they will hurt is the customers.

Adobe and Macromedia are great additions to eachother, together they have the technology to improve this situation, Macromedia has developed very interesting technologies for use in the web, and Adobe has the stuff to make it useful in other environments than just web. If they play their cards right, we are going to see some great stuff come out in the next few years, and some big changes.

Wouldn't it be funny if 3drealms didn't do new duke nukem fps, but a sidescroller like the original dukes are, and that is why it has taken so long, they had to design the game from scratch.

Oh man, that Lee3dees post brings memories, tho I started modelling from 3d studio max 2.5 but I have seen older programs in action including the 3d studio (the dos version I believe it was) and some of those wacky silicon graphics systems from way back, hehe, they crack me up these days.

Yeah but making product easy to use and understand isn't a business wise decision. Business wise decision is the fact that they made deals with retailers to ship computers with their products, there has been some intelligence to their designs too, like DirectX and developing APIs for their OS, makes developers life that much easier.

I just wanted to make clear of the situation, nothing more.

But maybe someday we can get to the point that the operating system is just a software and we can use other software and games regardless of the operating system or platform, kinda like Java but better.

  • New Conan game!

    • Kosmo
    • April 21, 2005 at 7:25 AM

Hehe, you can see here how they call it "Age of Conan" so that people might not just diss it for being another fantasy game, if they were calling it "Age of Barbarians" they wouldn't make the connection to Conan the Barbie, but to Barbarians like Mongols or such.

Why can't developers make more MMOGs like Planetside, Neocron and Twilight-War, their popularity shows from the fact that there have been and still is some mod teams trying to re-create these great games, no one is trying to make mod about the basic MMORPG.

I can agree the smoke is far the nicest smoke I have seen in a while, but let's be honest, this isn't a step forward from old engines, this is a step outward, not forward, something had to be done and since the current pixel and vertex shaders play with light and shadow, they went for them. It's a firm decision many developers have made with engines, but really you can look at all the current engines and see the same results, example Farcry, everything looked like chrome and plastic, too shiny and some places even had little white spots without the rest of the effect, like bounce, reflect and such.

You don't have to push up the light values in order to make something look realistic, it's just the way developers do it these days, they candy things out with it. Take a look at HL2 it had very very realistic looking texture materials like wood, rusty iron, concrete you name it. No shiny spots anywhere.

I have always been and will always be against these photon/global illumination/radiance they are just ways to make player go WOW, not ways to add realism, the over shinyness is pissig me off, since I fiddle around prettymuch with game graphics I see how hollow they are.

BiA is a great game, it has some unique design elements, but it too is guilty for the 'add sugar to'-scheme, if you look at any screenshot or video clip it has the annoying shiny effect, I don't know which one they used in that, but the same effect is in Painkiller and World of Warcraft. Just developers should stop being retards about the shiny effect and lights, it's not going to make your games look better, nor play better.

    Thank you.
