There's a balance, but the rest of the world is like doing research that earns back it's money only or something.

Not to undermine your opinion or anything, but umm.. america lover? There is nothing wrong with USA, the rest of the world is to blame

Besides, wasn't NASA's main goal when it was found to only study things that it can get profit seven times? NASA funding was in 2002 around $14,793.2 million, so I only assume that it has not made it's goal atleast in the past 30 years.

I don't think that they added the women to boost ratings, the buid team has been on the show from the beginning, and besides, they work at Jamies M5i so adding them is rather logical since they already built alot of things.

The Kari on tights is from a special episode called "Biscuit Bazooka", they test if you can get stuck on an airplane toilet in mid flight on that particular myth.

There was a site that had several Blizzard texture artists work, if you were looking for that kind of textures, but I think the site either has been taken down, or they have moved it.

Is there actually anything to discuss about this anymore? The ball has started to roll and there is very little we can do to stop it.

I already posted my grim vision of the game world of tomorrow on the GU board, and the words "Comics Code" raised it's ugly head couple of times. For those wo don't know what Comics Code is, then I only say this, it is the single worst thing happened to comics ever.

It is basically an authority like ESRB but they don't rate the comics for different age groups, they have very strict guidelines and they approve comics that follow the set guides and don't approve those that don't, and basically what it ment not being approved was, major retailers/distributors didn't sell that particular comic. I'm seeing that something similar might be happening to games. Strict guides and if they are not approved, retailers won't touch them with a forty foot pole, and this causes publishers not to publish those games since they don't make money.

Now you might guess that as a comics enthusiast, I'm not happy with Comics Code, but as for games, it just might be the thing we need right now. I'm tired of all this shit that is going on, I just want to play my BF2 and WoW in peace, and not having to worry about my future game development job (if I'm able to land one) just because the company I'm working for might get sued and we all lose jobs. The situation is just fucked up. And was GTA series worth this all? Well, they were all super games, but my answer to that question is just plain HARDLY!

Kosmo, Its so the game looks good in the future, you just expect too much from your system. Is running everything at full a way to justify your purchases?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to play most recent games like HL2 and Riddick at maxed out 1600x1200 res and still hitting like over 80 fps. But what I tried to say with my usually angry and loud way, that this seems to be the current trend, making games for the future, and don't get me wrong, it's cool and all that someday we are able to play them like I play Gloom on Quake 2 right now. But the developers are just complete retards, usually if games make tons of money, they make the money right now, not in the future as they sell them as budget games. So why are they shooting themselfs in the leg? Making games today is very costly as it is, why hinder the income aswell?

Besides, in the last few years, the requirements have only been rising, so are they just keep rising untill no one is able to play the current games with current bleeding edge system? Yeah, that is really great idea, let's do it and bankrupt our game developers.

Yeah I agree, Kari is a real hottie.

And one of the best things in the show are Adams impersonations of Jamie, "aa, I think I have a part here I used for a commercial in 1947"

If you haven't seen them, I think it's safe to say that "GO BUY THE DVD!".

Hopefully he will mess with the wrong company once, such as EA, and their legal team can blast him into the sun. I'd love to see that happen.

If that happened, I would say "I don't need drugst to enjoy this, just to enhance it."

Well, you can read the whole thing here.

A bit dissapointed in system performance. i have a amd64 3500 with a 7800GTX and at 1600 everything maxed the game ran like shit.

Fuck, I have AMD64 3000 and 7800GTX and at medium with all that dynamic shit the game was a slideshow at some points, and because I'm atm pretty low on mem (only measely 512) I got very familiar with that loading screen.

The same with BF2 tho, with dynamic shadows and dynamic light, the game ain't going nowhere.

And that is what I hate about modern games, they make these ultra cool games that look so pretty, but they don't actually run smooth in any machine, the dynamic shit and physics before the new Ageia PhysX chip is coming to stores make the games so heavy that you need a fucking renderfarm to render a single frame in less than 15 minutes. And the memory these games eat, shit man, one of my friend has AMD FX-55 and GF 7800GTX with 2.5gig ram (his beast is the one I do most of my 3d modeling) and BF2 runs smooth but stutters sometimes with big explosions, and eats around 1.3gig ram. Way to go making games for the future assholes.

I just think that in the US people dare to fund more fundamental research that goes deeper than the stuff that get's us microwaves. While one way of doing research gives more practical uses, the other one is just as interesting. But it's harder to earn your money back. This is what i like the US for, people dare to invest in more fundamental research, with as reason science itself, instead of earning invested money back.

I agree, not all science should be practical, or have a practical use in the near future, X-Rays are good example, but I respect Nikola Tesla for being very much an practical scientist, but his research has produced many theoretical offshoots.

Just like research on cosmic rays and such, they help us understand the universe, even tho they are nearly useless when it comes to paying the bills.

But the point of this whole thing is, when there is balance between spending money on basic research as opposite to funding applied research. I'm not so happy if it is true that US is spending the most money on research with no practical use at all, they already are spending vast amounts of natural resources and they use huge amounts of it to research basic research. I really don't accept it morally.
