I'm sorry if you think you are earning someones respect by acting up and beeing a total prick to each and everyone ALWAYS.

Sorry you feel that way. You should remember that prettymuch everything said here and every other forum are opinions, views are biased and they usually come from users own experience.

(disclaimer. Everything said in this forum are opinions, opinions may be discussed and debated, but they may not be changed)

It's sad how this is not unusual in mapping scene, fortunately, this is not so usual in other parts of game development. But there are stolen models and textures too, but mapping seems to be the first hobby young gamers take on who want to be on the industry one day, so it starts as innocent learning, like reading opensource code while learning coding, but then some who don't have the talent end up stealing the maps.

Somesort of file "watermark" would be good, when the map is compiled it would record the name of the original maker and date, and it could only be removed from the original source, not by hacking the map open.

Trend, you make it sound like something overhyped and unnecesary. And why doesn't that mean shit because of normal maps?

Wire frames can help a lot, and yeah you may not see depth as well in wireframe as in flatshaded, but there are other things that are easier to see in wireframe.

Trend 'The general direction in which something tends to move.'

I'm sorry if you have such an image in your head that trend means overhyped and unnecessary, but it is actually the current trend, one of the driving forces of graphics and clearly the bleeding edge of current- and next-gen.

Wireframes and flatshades don't mean shit for the general outcome of the model, actually what I have seen is that polycounts have actually dropped, and don't rise as fast as it did few years ago. Normalmaps and textures have taken the position for carving out the general detail in the model and polygons have taken a step back, these days they are much more functionality oriented than detail oriented.

Well, I'd figure that someone might have a site dedicated to models so they might have wireframes, but you have to understand that wireframe/flatshaded doesn't mean shit in this normalmapped trend thesedays.

Besides, as informative, wireframes are one of the worst place to look for how models are built, model loses depth when rendered wireframe. I'd put my money on flatshaded and smoothshaded models, maybe if lucky, some Maya freak might have smooth /w frames rendered from his models.

The detail props going through brushes, overbended roofs and the missing texture alignment on the wall in the back are all annoying to look at:/

And everything you just described are mappers mistakes that has nothing to do with the overall quality of the mod itself.

If I could be 24/7 in a school like yours, I'd use that privelage to the max, I'm just crazy that way. There is not enough school for me, when in vocational school (is that right?) I tried to get to a program where I could do the regular vocational shool and high school (lukio?) at the same time, but I couldn't get in for reasons utterly insane.

Well, I use one to schedule downloads for the night. The way my ISP works is I get 12G download limit for the month, but then there is offpeak time where I get another 12G download for 2:00 am to 9:00 am.

Fuck man, that is like some higher level alien mathematich patterns and physichal animalities with your ISP. How do they come up with these rules?

I might be crazy, but when I studied to become a graphic designer I was in the school from 8:00 to 22:00 (that is 8:00am to 10:00pm) every day except fridays. Can you stay at the school after class is over? I wouldn't mind to do some 6hour modelling sessions

Jynx is right, when I went for the 10/10 VDSL I didn't see the need to have a download accelerator, maybe some sort of manager would be good to schedule downloads from one source.

I have only used DLaccelerators when it was cool back in the 97' since then I don't even know what programs there are. But getright was hot back then, hell, you got the ladies when you used that.

Go!zilla seems to be still around too, but Fileplanet has some sort of DLManager, don't know if it works anywhere else than fileplanet/gamespy sites, but it might be good. I'm rather suprised that Google hasn't come up with a DLaccelerator, they have prettymuch done everything else.

But since intergration with Firefox is important, you could get wget, prozilla, Downloader for X, Download Accelerator Plus or GetRight and the FF addon Downloadwith that bypasses the FF internal dowloader and replases it with your favourite dowloader. Also some intergration can be achieved with DownloadStudio which seems to be the new thing that gets the ladies wet.

So there is alot to choose from.

    DownloadStudio

    Go!zilla

    DownloadManager 2.0

    Download Accelerator Plus

    GetRight

    Firefox extension DownloadWith

    Firefox extension for DownloadStudio

I'm not a pro, but I think that as far as mapping goes, you should try to get solid knowledge on as many engines as you can, what comes to mind, is the big three, Unreal Engine, Source and Doom3.

I wouldn't really bother with programming, do like I did, and learn scripting, since you already got some experience on programming, picking up a new one is a walk in the park, LUA was my first choice.

Texturing is a good thing to know, as sometimes it is not an option for you to get textures because all the texture artists are working on somewhere else, so then you'd have to make the textures, it is pretty simple, what would you prefer? Modeller who just does models or modeller who does models, textures them and animates?

Game industry is pretty known for it's multitalented people, and it will be that way always, so pick up skills, and try to master them.

Very little is known from the movies plot and there are so many different sources that you can't keep track of them all, but I have heard from few places that there is actually some reference to Hell as the creatures place of origin. But mostly the Darkhorizons articles say that they have changed the setting so that the creatures don't actually come from hell.

Oh and I just have to remind that Dave Callahan (the screewriter) said in early interview that "the movie is not based on mars" which is actually incorrect, the movie is actually based on mars. Now, remember that this very interview was the one where the "monsters have nothing to do with Hell" quote is from, so do you still think that there is NO way they could have something to do with Hell?

UAC messes about with stuff it doesn't understand and ends up dropping a right bollock and releasing thousands of mutants into a mars base

So basically "Former Vietnam vet. Colonel Samuel Trautman is kidnapped on a mission in Afghanistan by Soviet Colonel Zaysen and only man that can rescue him is JOHN RAMBO." Sounds cool, but that movie didn't win an oscar either

Oh lord when they are going to make a movie of a really great game with really great story, I mean Doom story? Doom story anyone? Anyone at all?

What the fuck IS the Doom story? A guy runs in dark hallways and kills demons, ooh, that deserves an oscar.

Make a game about the greatest game of all times, Metroid, and not the new ones (altho great), make a movie about the original metroid. That would be so frikkin cool, and hot too, Samus is the dream lady, fuck those Bloodraynes and DOA hoes.

I haven't seen the screens you guys are talking about, but my guess is that they look prettymuch like the old DoD since I have seen some screens way back.

But I think DoD:S release is taking so long because they are not making a port they are prettymuch making it again, so I guess they are going to change some of the graphics too.

But I don't care about graphics, DoD is all about the shooting, and the hiding and capturing flags or blowing things up, and that is what makes it so great. All I want is better vegetation to hide my MG.

I say you shouldn´t blame the people who sell it. You should blame it on the "hackers" that make cdkey generators etc. that with some luck may just steal your cdkey before you´ve even bought the box. Still EB Games or whatever the company is doing the selling should give a refund.

Well, they are already taking the risk of the cdkey being hacked when they sell a product to someone, they should refund or give him another copy of the game. If I buy a package of cereals from the store and it is empty I get a refund since I didn't get anything my moneys worth of cereals, just the box, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell what they need to do, but obviously EB does.
