Looking at it with the widest angle, from the highest level... I like this job because it affords me a lot of creativity and offers me a variety of tasks day to day. Deep down I like it because I care about it.

I hate it because of emotional investment.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits (title has nothing to do with the game. it was written in the 80s. jsut cosmic irony)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWe5_v5b-LA

Nice, Mark Knopfler for the win.

Funny, when I went to look for my favorite Dire Straits song I found the video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4eYhaA3RL4

That may be the worst coke-fueled MTV travesty I've ever seen. God it butchers the song.

You guys who don't know Dire Straits may have seen their "Money For Nothin" video which helped popularize CG graphics way back in the early days:

(back when they could say faggot on television)

I've been heavy into this indie band Sunset Rubdown lately... this video honestly drew tears the first time:

Well after watching Countermap lay dead for about two years, I finally decided to be one of the pitiful fools who tries to re-launch it. Hopefully I will not be added to the list of failures, as this is probably going to be the last attempt to bring this site back.

what a depressing first news post. sorry dude RIP Countermap

this demo was a good, fun, decent, solid game. The art ain't inspired but it's sharp and clear, renders nicely in HD. The visual tech is a good step up from GTA. Biggest gripe was the car camera being unresponsive when I'm trying to back up out of a sticky spot, or get going again after backing out.

character creation was really solid and good fun, gta has needed this for awhile.

    plus MULTIPLAYER come on guys

heh, I joined the kill.switch team when they were making the next game using the cover mechanic. A couple of the guys have told me that Gears is pretty much the game they *wanted* k.s to be. tech, budget, and time do wonders for presentation

    bring on GoW.

I don't think it will get old too quickly. The missions will give it structure, there are boss fights and many, many unique events. There seems to be quite a lot more depth than you might expect, with the stat building, learning new stuff at the book stores--photography, skateboard tricks, wrestling(!)... notice you can collect ingredients and mix your own smoothies at the drink bar, that give you different abilities? There's sure to be a ton of that kind of stuff.

much better but you could go a little crazier with the lighting in there... i know the ambient has to be high for the rest of the map, it's just kinda hurting this area

By "real world use" I mean practical commercial applications. Occasional, incidental use by students, travelers, hobbyists doesn't count

I would do something like ramps or steps between the low area and the walkways, so people don't get stuck down there in the heat of battle. That kind of thing is really frustrating. Awesome brushwork and detailing btw, just needs some more cover and visual filler at ground level.

hah, cool. You need so much more contrast in the lighting for a club like that, the upper walls and ceiling should be pretty close to totally dark. As long as the floors are well lit, even if somebody stunts up there they'll still be lit as if they were standing on the floor.

I picked up a frying pan, put it on the grill for a sec, walked over to a zombie and burned him in the face with it. Then I took a picture of what I just did.

    Tuesday can't come soon enough.

Really fascinating stuff. I don't see much real world practical use for it beyond idle diversion, but that is a really, really interesting project. I'm glad people are putting computers and the wealth of distributed data on the internet to use with such noble intentions.
