well i haven't tried the tool but if it spits out qcs on demand there is the option of looking at its outputs.

My strongest objection to a revamp of the forums is the prospect of losing the entire archive of posts to date. If the database can be converted and you can retain the entire archive, well great - so long as the core functionality is present and you're willing to maintain and improve upon whatever system you build.

If the gravatar thing is to save on serving costs I'd appreciate the option to host my avatar myself instead of registering at a third site.

I just hope this isn't sort of a "vanity project" built just for the hell of it - whatever comes in should absolutely be as functional and reliable as what is in place now. A lot of people use this board very regularly and you don't want to upset your users

Would you elaborate as to what you're thinking of doing? Coding a custom forum, my guess?

As a user I don't need much in the way of forum features. It's the content that matters, in fact I regard most of this fluff as useless bloat. Sigs and avs are nice but not absolutely necessary, and they are easy to abuse. The easiest and most important thing to implement is just the ability to post images inline. Some sort of PM system or mail forwarding is important.

I'd say that what you want as an administrator is the most robust and *secure* administration system you can muster. I say this as a mod on some of the worst forum software I've ever had to deal with (forumplanet). Most of its failings aren't clear to the end user but for the admins it's been an outright nightmare.

over the years i've had (still have) three samsung TFT displays. they've always treated me exceedingly well; no dead pixels, bright, sharp, true color, totally reliable.

i know people who have bought cheap barebones TFT displays and they have invariably had some problem or other; dead pixels, poor connectors, flickering displays etc.

just my experience.
