Loving that. I know some guys with a UK DoD S server if you need somewhere to test it.

Everyone should eb sterilised at birth and permits allocated to allow you to become a parent only after you proved, in front of a panel of judges, that you are not a complete cretin.

Drugs are fun providing you know what you're letting yourself in for and approach the thing with a sensible attitude and a bit of perspective. Smoking a few joints is not the same as injecting heroin into your cock. Likewise snorking a line of coke is not the same as drinking for 72 hours straight and having bourbon on your cornflakes every morning.

Whats happening with this then? Someone willing to organise it, give some more definite rules and get things moving?

Well, as far as I know, groups and single entries are fine. Theme and stuff I think is fairly open. Last discussion about closing dates seemed to result in most people saying that March/April was reasonable.

well, I've created a topic for those interested in being in a group for this compo, hopefully that'll get things moving.

Righto, as a preliminary stage to getting started, I'd like folk who'd be interested in forming groups with a view to submitting a map to the Mapkorpak to sign up here. When posting, please give a brief outline of your skillset, your location & timezone and anything else that you feel is relevant.

I'll update this here post with anything else that is required or new information.

    Name : Schmung

    Location : UK

    Timezone : GMT

Skills : Mediocre mapper, but I have done nowt in source yet, primarily HL1 stuff. Decent low poly modeller and I can unwrap. Haven't done much of this normal mapping witchcraft yet though. Texturing skills extend to opening photoshop and not much else.

Availability : I tend to be about in the evenings after 7pm, though that depends on what shift I'm on in work. Weekends I'm not about much.

Well, shall we create a topic for those interested in forming groupd with the intent of submitting something to the pack so that we can find partners, or are we going to have someone assigning us into groups based on our skills and preferences?

    Get less absurdly drunk.

    Compensate by taking more drugs.

    Finish TS.

    Do some Source stuff.

Try being 'nice' from time to time.

    Make more money.

My mapping abilities are middling, I know nothing about source at the moment though, still tied to the HL engine. I can model mechanical stuff decently enough. I have almost zero ability to texture stuff though. I'd love to team up with a couple of guys and spend time each evening working together on something and coming up with ideas. It'd make a nice change to the way I've worked before and expose me to new ideas and techniques, which is always a good thing.

1024x1024 should give you plenty of detail.

Maybe do the rotors and rotor housing on another sheet depending on what your layouts like.

Might be nice to let people colaborate on this, to add an extra twist to things. Lots of people are saying they don't have time/motivation/resources so maybe it would be cool if we worked in teams of two/three. Could work with people saying a little about their preferences/how they work/stylistic ideas and then one central person, who is reasonably impartial putting them together in small teams. Would make a nice change from beavering away all by yourself and would hopefully result in everyone being refreshed by other peoples ideas. Of course, it might end up as a total clusterfuck and maybe it's best off as a seperate entity, but I thought I'd mention it and see what you lot thought.

At present I'm just doing 15 minutes at a time on the map and 15 on the model. Seems to be working, though progress is very slow. Once I'm done, I'll leave it for a while before looking into mapping for Source.

    gack?! 64 hours!? Lordy. Shite.

Light is very nice. Textures good. Something about it somehow seems off though and I really can't place what it is. Still and awesome effort though. GJ.

Opened up hammer oneday and couldn't stop mapping. The ideas were flowing ! Btw, when I get the feeling of 'this just doesn't look how I want it to look' I just delete it all and start over. Failing this I suggest you take mind bending drugs.

Bastards made 'shrooms illegal in the summer or I'd scoff a ton of them. Nowt like it for a mental work out.

hmm, quite possibly, the maps got some nice-ish features and interesting areas, but I can't quite glue them together convincignly enough and though I have ideas for most places, nothing seems quite right when I try making it.

Bluestrike, methinks you need a bit more colour there. Very atmospheric, but somewhat bland at the same time IMO. Could be my work monitor though.

gah, I've tired most of those.

I just feel burnt out. THe problem is, I've got stuff I pretty much have to have finished fairly soon. I've played games, not mapped form weeks on end, read tons of books, listened to all sorts of music. I fire up hammmer and just spend ages flying round the level looking at how bland chunks of it are and I have literally no clue what to do with those areas.

    It's driving me nuts.
