EA tried it. They failed miserably.

  • Wii, 360 or PS3?

Already got a 360, So I'll have to go with the Wii. The PS3 looks interesting, but with Nintendo's back catalogue on the Wii, There are many more games to play for less than the 360. I'll probably pick one up in the spring. Will probably be a year or so before I get a PS3.

I Steam-purchased Psychonauts. Its quite an amazing game, very different then what you would expect it to be.

Ohhhh, but VS 2005 is so much better than 2003 it makes me want to cry.

Zacker, arent you still in school? Most universities have a deal with MS where students can get software for dirt cheap. I got my VS2005 for like 30 bucks.

One thing, the default controls for cover are different from Gears of War so it took me time to get used to it because i was playing a lot of GoW yesterday.

Guess I wasnt the only one

I like it so far, but I'm only through the first level.

BTW: I laughed my ass off when I saw the hidden Hurg

Well this map looks too artless and on some way really unattractive.Correct and develop the lighting and repair the damn walls

Nice constructive comments there, nexus. Wanna give the man back his dignity, now?

Outside looks great. I think the gas station seems a little small. I would give it more pumps and bump up the size of the building. And as everyone else said, the inside wall could use those touch ups, and a bit more detail on the inside.

    Looking good. Keep it up!

  • Online Courses - HELP!

Depends on the field. If its an art thing, you should be fine taking online courses because the only thing that matters is the portfolio, but at most of the programming gigs I've been with, they never even look at a resume if the person's degree is from an online institution.

I personally wouldn't do anything degree-wise online, but its all a matter of taste.

  • Tom Clancy games...License or Original IP?

    • Section_Ei8ht

The way it worked for splinter cell (afaik) is that Clancy had pretty much little to do with the story and the characters. All Clancy did was approve the technology and politics of the game, to make sure that they were close to realism.

From my understanding, the "Tom Clancy's" brand that is slapped on so many things are just a way of attracting people to a particular product that is starting out. To be quite honest, I probably never would have played splinter cell in the first place if it didnt have the Tom Clancy brand on it, but then again, I'm a huge Clancy fan, and hence the point of putting the brand on it.

I remember hearing about the splinter cell dev team getting into a argument with Clancy over the possibility of the Night Vision/Thermal Goggle hybrid, with Clancy saying it is not possible, but the dev team were able to sway him.

Long story short, I don't think he actually owns the IP, its just a brand name that is put on as a form of advertising (a way of saying "if you like Tom Clancy stories, you'll love this, too"), and is paid royalties for the use of the name.

Great game, but I was playing it on my PC and I did about three quests it didnt save my game properly and I didnt feel like doing them again, so I started playing something else. I'll go back to it one of these days, but I did enjoy what I played.

Not sure where you're getting the shadows only on characters thing. I didn't notice that...

Yes. It's worth every penny. Of course, if you're not playing coop, it might get a bit repeditive.

Doom 3 engine is my favorite to work with. Everything is in raw formats, so you never need to compile anything and its very versitle and easy to work with. I started with Hammer, but once I got into radiant, I havent been able to go back.
