Galen Rowell is really good. I'm not sure he's actually famous, but definitely well known.

what kind of camera/lens did you use? very nice fotos but some are a bit too contrasty, dont you think?

Yeah, maybe a little too contrasty. I edited all these on my friend's laptop and I kind of like the over-contrast. I might dial it back down if I post more in the future. I use a Canon 20D and a Tamron 17-50 2.8. The lens has been a phenominal performer for me. Sharp at every aperture (4-11 is awesome, defnitely beyond the capabilities of my camera).

you awesomeness ^^ what would intrest me personally is how many pictures you shot at all (the ratio of pictures shown to picture made?)

Umm.. heh. I don't know how many. This certainly doesn't constitute all the ones I really like from Big Bend though. I was trying to keep the number down. And this is only Big Bend. I've been through about 20 other parks now. Thanks for the compliments everyone!

I've been on a summer-long national park trip with my friend since the 12th of June. Our first stop was Big Bend. I didn't enjoy the place all that much, but I got some great pictures. Enjoy!

except for two and three I think those are great shots. Lots of mood with some great color and lighting. That's the kind of condition I'd love to find myself in with a camera and tripod. Good job.

Some photos I took in the last week or two. These are my first real sets of photos using the Adobe Camera RAW workflow. I resisted the idea of shooting RAW before, but now that I've tried it I like it quite a bit. The only photoshopping here is the border and resizing. A couple of them are also on my DeviantArt.

All these were taken on my 20D with my retro-fitted sigma 50mm macro. It's the old Canon mount with a manual aperture ring, so I don't get complete exif data, but it takes great shots! On the down side the farthest I can focus is about 4 inches from the front of the lens.

if you can live with it just buy a rebel. they're cheaper and use the same sensor (XTi has a higher res sensor actually). I bought a 20D over a 350D(rebel xt) because it felt a lot better in my hands.

if you are debating buying the 30D in stead of nicer glass, go with the glass in stead. Resolution and a camera body doesn't matter as much as nice glass imo. of course, you could buy the nice camera and wait longer to buy the nicer lens.

This was a family vacation to go see my older brother who lives in singapore with his family. Easily the best family vacation we've ever had. and yes, we did ride elephants.
