    care to elaborate?

again. This time I used my uncles D60 and a Tamron 28-105 2.8 lens. I used the camera for three days before I took these shots. I LOVE this camera. I can't wait till my 20D arrives on wednesday.

it's an excellent book for car trips. i keep mine pressed between a large encyclopedia and the shelf with a clamp to make sure it doesn't get wrecked durring the summer (it gets a little humid in MN, and the power goes out occaisionally)

Made this for someone in the HL2world forums. 420(rawr! reduced to 344!) faces right now (without the phone). I have no idea how good or bad that is. This is my first prop model (well, very nearly), but I think it's pretty optimized, though I admittedly am very new to modeling.

    :edit:

    :edit:

finished. I think. 430 something faces I think. Plus or minus 15 faces. Did it all in one day! Woohoo!

Besides, what are you guys gonna do with all the bsp's now?

no kidding. just release them and say "they're pretty. look at them." It'll be a tribute to NW that the hardcore fans who've been following it for a long time will really like. Release them as a bonus with the finished mod later, or if that never happens.. just throw us the bsps as they are without even making it a mod. just give us bsps wads and models.

i won't touch anything but Gtk 1.4... then again, I havn't touched that or Hammer in months.. sandbox is the only map editor i've opened in a very long time, and that's only in the last few days.

Looks great Belgarion. But isnt the environment lightning to bluish and cold?

Well, those were the default settings. I think it looks fine. Maybe i'll toy with it later. I've been making an oasis map which.. eh.. looks borring. again, the environment settings are what need tweaking.

It looks very nice to me, though some of the textures are a tad streched. and it is a little blocky, but since you're focusing on gameplay that's fine. I like the feeling you've made though. Unusual for a Q3 map.

Yaaaaay. A FarCry map. Decided to pick up Sandbox again yesterday and almost finished with this today. I know it looks like just about every other FC map in existance, but it's the first time I've made a FC map I'm actually proud of, so boo.

    No gamma adjustment.

yeah.. i agree. I would rather see a HL-engine release than source. they did so much work with HL, why not just see it through? I think I enjoyed HL engine more than Source anyway..

uh, well, minnesota isn't exactly known for its temparate winters.. though it has been lately. Honestly, i've been dissapointed with our winters the last several years. i love snow, and any time we get it I'm happy. all these shots were taken within a conservatory, which is basically a big greenhouse open to the public.

zynd, send me your snow. ^^

had some fun yesterday with my G2 and a macro addon lens. i've been taking photos like this for around 3 years now, just rarely show anyone i'm not personally talking to. pic 3 has some pretty severe cromatic aberation, but it was rather dark in there. i had to open the aperture all the way to 2.0 and put iso up to 100 or 200 in some pics (lowest is 50. 100 is acceptable. more than 200 = sand) to get a decent shutter speed (no tripod this time)

lol. at least the evilest person on earth. at the very least, a superlative adjective. i don't think i've ever heard that particular grammatical error before.

someone's been using the cs_office textures It looks nice, I need to start learning modelling myself...

nooooo those are all textures i made, got off google image search, or used max to create.

    Quote from KoKo5oVaR

Yeah, Zazi is such a douche, screw that guy .Well, except the little table and the couchs which are really good, the geometry of the room and desks are quite simple to my opinion, you've didn't put the same amount of work for each part of the scene it seems.

oh yeah, and you will break your back on those chairs

whaaaat.. no. zazi is nice. <3 zazi. but while you mention the chairs, i did also say that i was dissatisfied with them. i'll make something new tonight probably. it's the end of the quarter. no more classes to worry about.you're also right about the amount of work i put in to different parts of the scene. i did them all in stints, doing part of it at one point, learning how better to use max, then later doing other things. specifically the two desks. both of those i did earlier in the scenes creation, while the sofa table i made latter on(or at least its legs). the glass/wood wall was something that i went back and made super-high poly, like the water tank and its base, as well as the couch. maybe i should just dig up the old image. *2 minutes later* lol. it's funny to look at it now. 1 2

    Quote from Section_Ei8ht

i agree with koko. Its looks great. Some things are superb (couches, feel), but some other things are kind of lacking. Some areas are too simple (first pic far right). The shadows look a little dark, too. but thats just me.Sweet stuff, no doubt.

the right is kind of bare, isn't it? i'll stick some tvs in there or something. But the shadows are mostly ok. I think you're looking at the two couches and table on the left in pic 1. that's darker because all the lights there are almost directly above them. the other shadows aren't so harsh.

this is pretty much my final for my 3d modeling class this quarter. was going to be final but.. well, the lights, the chair... and zazi.. dangit zazi. don't let him critique your stuff. he'll give you good suggestions you can't ignor.. anyway

it was originally made for an interview (got a 3ds job after three days actively using it. awesomeness!), but they had to change things and i no longer work for them. but i decided that i must continue modeling, so I took the sucky version i gave my boss and prettied it up for fun, then decided to make it my final. tadah. this is the first scene i've made with 3ds. (aside from my lame assignments and small personal projects)

i found the dxf to be quite sufficient, but then my import was fairly simple. still, i didn't have a problem with missaligned verticies. it's deleting all those extra faces that is annoying at first.

would models actually be cheaper than displacements? i can throw oodles of displacements in my maps and it barely tics the fps counter... would displacements even export?
