yeah they've approached most of the dallas developers about this. i think everyone is sitting around for a bit to see if there is a legal precedent for such a thing. we're in an especially odd pickle because instead of just using to represent health or whatever, it's actually part of history (i'm sure moh and cod have the same problem)

silly red cross. i always knew they were a corrupt organization but atleast try to HIDE THE FACT you're a "humanitarian" company doing your best to turn a profit off the top.

    ugh

We had to change ours, too. What works reasonably (not too noticable) well is a white cross on a red circle. Seems to shut 'em up.

"GOOD LORD, YOU MIGHT EVEN FIND OUT THAT THE GERMANS HAD RED CROSS HELP DURING WWII! WE CAN'T HAVE PEOPLE FINDING OUT WE HELPED...(dramatic pause)... NAZIS CAN WE? :monocle:

Quick edit. If I'm not mistaken, isn't the Red Cross's "logo" pretty much just a simplified Christian cross? Same as there are Jewish and Muslim versions of Red Cross centers?

How the hell are they going to go on about saying a religious symbol is their intellectual property?

like I already said about five million times in this thread. The irani government openly threatened to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. That's enough reasoning to me.

Like I said though, Klein, they won't because they can't. It'd be suicidal for them to. Not to mention it'd destroy their monuments and religiously significant areas as well. What muslim nation would support Iran's actions after they nuked the Dome of the Rock?

Well here's something you all should know:-Most creationist/self-proclaimed scientist who believe in Intelligent Design support the big bang theory. It supports the idea that the universe starts from a single point and revolves around it. This idea of singularity supports the notion of a god.

Actually most of them don't. Where'd you get this wacky idea? Most of them think the big bang, in the words of the infamous bumper sticker I've seen next to a lot of Darwin-eating Jesus-fish, is: "The Big Bang: God said it, bang it happened."

Honestly, they believe that it all spawned instantaneously in a void, like placing a model in a level you're designing. Let there be light, and then god adjusted the values on his point lights.

    Quote from DD

-The big bang theory has major holes starting from the base. It assumes the explosion was not symmetrical/even for some unknown reasons and assumes there is selveral different forms of dark matter, and all sorts of unproved notions to support why the movement of stars/planets don't add up.

You know that they've been studying dwarf galaxies lately and discovering more about dark matter, right? The lack of full knowledge does not, in any way, mean that something is invalid. That's the wonder of science, it's constantly changing. Unlike the simps from the Religious Right and the Intelligent Design fundies who have no idea what science is and simply mean to jam the words "God did this." into any cracks yet un-filled.

    Quote from DD

-I believe NASA needs lots of work done to it to improve cost, productivity, and keeping up to date with technology. This appointee may just be the move that starts the dominos, hopefully the reform or removal of NASA.

Removal of NASA? DD, do you have any idea how much technology and research goes on in and because of NASA? Removing them would do one of two things (and perhaps both):

    1. Make the public, on the whole, just that much dumber.

    2. Sling space exploration firmly into the hands of irresponsible private firms who would exploit space for their own short-sighted ends.

Furthermore, the guy got fired. I doubt his brand of idiocy and being a crony of the Bush administration would've pushed the NASA folks in any good direction.

    Quote from DD

Basically what this all means to me: The 24 year old douche or whatever his name is believes that support big bang is against intelligent design. He is a dumbass. He is arguing against his own belief in dumbass confusion.

Dumbass yes. Belief defying dumbass? No. Belief injecting dumbass? Yes.

The New York Times reports that NASA declines to discuss the reasons for his resignation, but that it came the same day that Texas A&M University, from which Deutsch claimed on his resume to have graduated, revealed that he had attended the university but did not complete his degree." The New York Times reports it today, but as of yesterday, it was the Times that had unquestioningly passed along the falsehood of Deutsch's graduation, and it was the blog Scientific Activist whose investigation revealed he'd left before graduating to work on the Bush reelection campaign."

These two quotes make me giggle like a school girl:

    Quote from von*ferret

No I'm defending my own personal opinion that I appreciate his presidency and I'm proud of the fact I voted.

You're appreciative of the deficit spending? You're appreciative of the cuts to social programs that pale in comparison to the massive budget he's proposed for the war while we are in dire need of funding for the areas hit by Katrina? You're appreciative of his backing of "Intelligent Design" that will only seek to either further cripple our public school system or produce a whole lot of very dumb students? You're appreciative of his blatant cronyism that probably cost a lot of hurricane victims their lives? You're appreciative of his administration and all the rampant and blatant corruption they've brought with them?

Gadzooks man, I'd hate to see what it would take for you to finally snap and disagree with this man and his administration.

I'm glad you voted, Ferret, but even I can realize a mistake after I've made a decision. However, it seems like you're defending this president regardless of any mistake he makes. That just seems inherently dishonest to both yourself and what the Republican party really stands for, or well, stood for.

    Quote from von*ferret

I'm also here to inform you that not everyone shares your opinion. While your opinion is valid and I appreciate you're so active, I want you to know that not everyone agrees with you. Your opinion is just that, and not a fact.

Opinions can be backed up by fact though, and the facts of the matter are that this current administration is dealing with a massive backlash due to rampant cronyism, corruption charges, and assaults on our domestic liberties while cutting taxes for the top 1-2% while running a very costly war.

    Quote from von*ferret

We could argue about it for hours. Though just because you feel that you got the raw end of the deal and Bush was voted back into office, doesn't mean that the majority of Americans are "deplorable."

Doesn't mean they didn't make an awful mistake for which we're going to be paying the consequences for years and years to come though, either.

    Quote from von*ferret

I simply dont appreciate how you assume that I'm either ashamed or blinded by something. Maybe people have other opinions and you should respect that instead of simply putting me in a corner and "pitying" my decision.

I'd personally just like to know where you stand. If you still support this administration and if you still feel good about voting him in. You've answered that. Like I said, it wasn't an attack on you and was merely an honest curiousity so cut the persecution complex.

What Scraps said is very true though. Acting like there's some kind of argument here where there really isn't one is a tactic that the Religious Right in all its wisdom likes to use to wedge in a debate. There is an absolute mountain of evidence supporting the Big Bang theory. There is only faith supporting "Intelligent Design." One is science, the other is not. Period.

The problem is that Obsessive Spellchecking is just one of the problems.

Like I said, I let people get away with a lot. Mostly I just get on people for the leet-speak garbage. Mistakes are one thing, heck, even common spelling errors are one thing, but blatant disregard for the English language is another.

    Quote from Skjalg

And it also reminds me of my brother who uses this as a technique to throw people off (sorta similar to name calling). He has no arguments left so he starts attacking the person with other things, like grammar mistakes.

I'm sorry about the relationship with your brother.

    Quote from Skjalg

It's time you guys realize that we're not just kids and that our points are valid.

Then act like adults. Post well thought out arguments and have conversations instead of posting long strings of google image search "angry muslim" pics. We let you discuss pretty much anything here, even crazy posts about how supposedly intelligent people believe in haunted houses. You guys get a lot more leniency than I think you really believe you have.

    Quote from Steppenwolf

Still you said i was trolling around and posting random pics that have nothing to do with the discussion, just because you had a different opinion then me. I see things like this as personal insult because i have never experienced such a behaviour from a mod in all the years that im on the internet.

In all honesty I'll argue whatever you want any time you want and heck we might even agree on some things, but I won't tolerate flame-bait poorly thought out crap. If you have a post with pictures, I'm not going to take you seriously. If you have a post with a linked website (the more unbiased the better) with facts, stats or articles I'm going to think over your point and consider you a better poster.

What's the point of this whole thread again?

For discussion about the current state of the forums.

    Quote from Skjalg

Okay, I'll humour the other persons on this forum then; This whole thing started when The Postman started deleting posts in a rather hot thread. The discussion was far from over, but as I see it, The Postman saw it as over because his arguments were flawed and everyone weren't seeing the world as he did (from my point of view). And he kinda reminded me of my big brother when he run out of arguments and subconsciousnessly (this is my theory) sees this himself.

I deleted posts from a few people who were only posting large pictures that had little to do with the thread other than perhaps they showed angry Muslims. They weren't arguments or conversations. I said my opinion in that thread and only butted heads with people that weren't doing much more than fanning the flames or just posting huge pictures. If you think I was being bratty go read the thread again.

    Quote from Skjalg

When that one guy posted using a huge avatar, The Postman could've just gone into his profile and erased the avatar. That approach would've spared him time, actually.

Actually I can't do that. I'm only a moderator, not an admin. Next un-informed bitch-point please?

    Quote from Skjalg

If there is anything offensive towards other users on the forum, just delete the words, not the post. If the whole post is something offensive, replace the info with "[user1] is out of arguments and lashes out against [user2] with personal attacks!"

Deleting his posts would result in you bitching and a still-fucked-up forums. Come on, use your head.

    Quote from Skjalg

I've always liked MapCore, and it's members, but The Postmans actions (and yours Fletch, since you are kind enough to share the blame, allthough I'm pretty sure The Postman acted alone and just got your confirmation later (which isnt the same thing)) pissed me off to no end because he messed up one of the first threads in the political forums that I (for once) had taken an interest in and was monitoring closely.

Fletch and I talk about what to do in the forums before acting. If you're still angry, lo siento, it's not going to change.

    Quote from Skjalg

Political threads shouldnt be touched by moderators that are actively involved with the thread. You guys can take turns, whatever, or get a 3rd guy.

Um, no. I go into damned near every thread and look at what's going on, especially if there's a lot of posting (oddly enough I've made changes, not posted what happened, and no one's noticed). That doesn't change if I'm posting in the thread or if Fletch is posting in the thread or if Mikezilla is posting in the thread. If anyone posts something dumb, flaming, or just plain off topic it'll get the chop.

    Quote from Skjalg

I realize this might be too much to ask for though, so I'll volunteer, I'll never post in the thread or get actively involved in any of the content, I'll just sensur away the name calling and hand out warnings. Seeing as I'm just 20 years old and, by now, probably on your hate-list this won't happen, but it was worth a shot.

    Sorry, not going to happen.

    Quote from Skjalg

Great that you made the thread btw, I've been thinking of making it alot lately. On a final note, i'd like to point out that the first thing you say is that you delete posts too, just like The Postman. How does that justify it?

Because sometimes posts are off-topic, flaming, or just lots of pictures in a forums that's supposed to be about serious discussion? We make sure that it flows smoothly. Sorry to anyone for deleting your five 800x600+ collection of angry Muslims burning Israeli flags.

My suggestions:1. Forget grammar check completely. One of the polls in this forum showed that two thirds of the forum people are no native english speakers. Go play grammar nazi in a university or high school forum

This won't be gone completely and I am pretty damned lenient most of the time. The only stuff that really gets my goad are people that use leet-speak garbage in what are supposed to be (hopefully) intelligent conversations about serious topics.

    Quote from Steppenwolf

    2. no arrogant attitude and disrespecting comments against people with a different opinion from the moderators. this lets you look stupid in front of the whole community. discussion on irc showed that most people agree with that.

If you post "lol well i thikn that p3rhapz tehre is a moon good that is making teh muszlims go crazy and there religon is bulshit" I'm going to call you out for being dumb. Again, what Fletch said rings true. If you don't like it go tug on the skirt of your mother or otherwise. They'll care just as much as we do.

    Quote from Steppenwolf

It's a curious predicament. On one hand I think that Russia's solution was a very realistic and fair one.

Iran claims they want nuclear facilities to process uranium for nuclear power plants. However, they're not being allowed to enrich uranium to do so.

Russia okays that, so long as the enrichment is done by Russians for Iran, and not done in Iran itself.

Iran bows out of this deal and just screams obscenities.

The nuts and bolts of it:

Iran wants nukes. Period. They want them as a bargaining tactic with Israel, the US and her interests largely because they see it as the only way to slow the roll of the US's imperial interests of late. North Korea has nukes, has repeatedly threatened the US and nothing has been done about that nation. Russia had nukes during the cold war, repeatedly threatened the US and was never outright attacked. Various other nations with nuclear capabilities are more respected and treated with kid gloves by the US because of their armaments.

Will they nuke Israel? Fuck no. They'd be wiped off the damned map by a coalition of western nations, not to mention they'd be nuking a whole slue of their own religiously significant sites and nullifying any and all bargaining ability diplomatically.
