  • [Unnanounced Project] - Freelance 3D Artist

    • Kedhrin
    • January 22, 2013 at 8:32 PM

    Hey guys,

I am looking for someone to do some freelance work with me to create a set of Props for a prototype i'm currently working on.

It's a pretty big set. I'm still collecting what all it actually includes even...

I posted this info on facebook as well for those of you who have me on there.

    Run down-

    Full medieval prop set (indoor/outdoor/hero)

Diffuse / Normal / Spec / Opacity where required

I don't care about super high fidelity normal maps. Making them in crazybump or ndo is fine with me.

Must make collision, material, and prepare in CryENGINE 3

    Must use Atlas Texturing

Hell you could probably do all the texturing with nDo2 and dDo

This isn't a task for newbie artists, but it's also not an extremely difficult one.

Although the visual bar is high, I am welcoming shortcuts most artists would frown upon because it is a Prototype.

The objective is quantity > speed > quality

If you're interested, send me a PM with your portfolio. If I like what I see i'll get you the details. Pay is TBD with a quote.

    Thanks!

Maybe i gotta see a directors cut of Robin Hood... that movie, like most of Ridley Scott's stuff, was WAAYYY too much story smashed into a very little timeline....

the kingdom of heaven directors cut vs. the regular version is like watching 2 different movies. The directors cut puts its right in my top 10 favorite movies of all time.

Really cool. Can't tell you how many times i've hated chopping up textures...

if you ever get the chance, one day get it working with brick shapes

    sorry, let me rephrase that...

it is, hands down, the best multiplayer fps game out right now

    Why... there's just no point

because the game is the best multiplayer game out right now and theres things i want to buy in it i play really serious in it, even with an organized clan.

I'm a sucker to Free To Play if i get really into a game. I feel compelled to throw money at the game because I want to support the devs and get all the really good stuff.

I've spent over $400 on Lords of Ultima before D:

I could just as equally play forever and not spend money on the game but to buy a weapon would take foreeevverrr... unless you're in a liberator going after low population bases (ghost capturing) it can take a really long time to get certs...

some of the cell shaded games on ps3 looked fantastic like eternal sonota... too bad the game was sooo fairy-like i couldn't sit through it no matter how good the art was...

and the gameplay got super repetitive... waaaaayyy too JRPG.

this definitely looks like a traditional JRPG.... but hopefully the pacing is good

Didn't knew that Metro used a Iveco truck, quite interesting (evenso I can't view the image you posted- edit: images works now, strange...), my main reference was a Iveco truck as well.

But good to see that It's recognizable^^

Hm, I used this reference for the wheel, so it does really exist. But several people said it looks stange- I'm going to change it on the next step so the extrusion isn't so obvious/extreme.

    Thanks for the feedback.

i think the issue is the thickness of the tire around the rim as beck pointed out... in your reference picture, the rims are not as large as you have them on your mesh. I'd make them about 10-15% smaller.

the biggest downfall in your work thats making it go from stylistic to realistic is the fact its easy to see your brush strokes/shapes. Some of your textures, like the tiled floor, are fine while others, (your wood) has a very hand painted look to them.

i think minimizing the apperance of brush strokes and relying more on photo reference overlays will help you get away from that look (if you want to).

Maybe i was wrong but it just reminded of it

they have a style they use on their background scenes which i really like... you really gotta see more of it though, especially their city scenes, where its more noticeable.

i don't think your textures are very realistic but they are very stylistic, which can be better (depending on the project). I'd say keep rocking that awesome style but try to dive into more realistic if you can... you'll be easier to hire for most employers that way. In other words, you don't want your art style to limit what projects you could work on.

man, if only you could rock a bad ass normal map to go with it

your style reminds me a lot of the Archer backgrounds, which is kinda weird. Theres large brush strokes but the fine detail almost overlayed.

it looks like you're doing an inner glow around the edges, i just noticed on your other textures too, is that simply for presentation of the texture?
