First of all, I will say Assassins Creed is a pretty amazing achievement in terms of environment, visuals, animation, and interaction. I can't speak much for the rest because I only played about an hour. Anyone who knows anything about getting a game on a console (ie; framerate and memory limits) should be very impressed by what AC can do.

However, I know Ubisoft usually has huge teams on games (heard Splinter Cell 2 MP was over 100 people) and it's no surprise when she says 300 developers on-site, with hundreds more off-site. This is generally not the case for most development studios, and I feel like it may give the wrong impression to people who might be interested in getting into these things.

Either way, the things she touched on, and the examples she showed were very strong, and should get lots of eyes looking our way. I also find it interesting how games are hiring roles that were specific to games as she mentioned, such as director of photography, and casting agents. Things like story or cinematics aren't new to games, but now that we have the tools & tech to do them very properly, the need to do them correctly is much higher.

Don't forget about the micro transactions that the EA folks seem to be keeping tight lips about.

No, you can't buy us out... not until GTA4 ships... and not until you triple your offer.... then yeah. Deal.

Stay independent, and most of all, stay classy, San Diego.

They've got one up with a comparison now. Pretty impressive stuff, although the bouncy balls are definitely more vivid in the TV ad.

if you actually read the article you will find out the characters are temp.

there's plenty of fingers going through guns out there in other game screenshots too.

Impressive that it's a two man dev team. I downloaded both the demos, I'll try and check them out tonight and post some feedback.

Beat the first demo: does this end at the dog? Just got to make sure Great stuff though. Don't know if I had a graphical glitch or they were trying to make it seem like you were drunk... I definitely had a lot of visual anomalies like the screen tearing. Great interaction systems though. Also had a problem where all my object interactions were pretty far below the actual object itself, which slowed me down a lot.

Finished the second demo now, pretty outstanding. I do have to say though, some of the puzzles aren't exactly clear. They also throw red herrings in there to look for a certain device (ie; hex shaped object on power box leads me to think I'm looking for a hex screwdriver) when you are just supposed to beat the hell out of it to make the front panel come off, which I tried (apparently not enough!). Either way, had a good time playing it.

    Beautiful work

If the background is so temp that it's distracting, why not just make it a solid color for an in-game render?

Fantastic stuff, BJA. While I'm beginning to dislike brown very much, this looks to be very high quality stuff. Could be very suited for a Silent Hill / Resident Evil style game. Maybe you've already answered this, but what kind of mod/game is the map for?

Great stuff, Bluestrike. Always good to see something different, too bad to hear the project isn't going so well though.

Ninja Gaiden - Having no PC for several months drove me to desperate measures. Overall, it was worth it.

God of War - If you put that simon says button-press shit in your game, I will cut you.

I want to say there were a few other games recently that nearly drove me mad, but that was probably just God of War.

Some of these comments here are so ignorant, I can't even begin to put it into words. I will attempt to say a thing or two.

    KT:

Point 1: People don't seem to have a problem buying eight million copies of Halo 3 at $60 a pop, or 10 million copies of WoW + $15/Mo subscription fees. It just takes the right game to draw someone's attention.

Point 2: Some companies DO provide royalties directly back at the developers, so they have every right to defend this.

Point 4: (I skipped your 3) Have you ever seen this warning before movies start up?

    [Blocked Image: http://mike.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/fbiwarning.jpg]

Folks like yourself should be tracked and prosecuted similar to RIAA crackdowns.

    Hessi:

Why are you wasting money on crappy games? Do you read reviews? One can even learn great lessons from playing not-so-good games, where you can easily point out, "oh, if they had done this it would have been so much better." Of course there is a point where a game is just so bad that there's no point in experiencing it.

I am also now the proud owner of:

He was off his rocker with the Galaxy review (bad camera? gtfo!) but I can agree with most of this one. :monocle:

Huh? Sometimes the cameras in Mario Galaxy were outright terrible.

Anyone know of a site or somewhere that I can get the Silent Hill series for relatively cheap? :E
