    It might had accidentally changed some command in the console that makes the game ignore object collision, i think there was a command that did that but can't remember which one.

    Try deleting the .cfg files and afaik HL2 will create a new default config file once you start the game.

    NVidia is a bad choice the way things are at the moment. ATI is really catching up, and their cards are getting insanely cheap.

    I recommend the Sapphire HD 4770:

    - 512mb GDDR5 @ 3200 mhz

    - Core @ 850 mhz

    - First 40nm GPU (consumes less energy)

    - Costs around 100€ (might be less now)

    Since it's so cheap, you can buy two of them to make a crossfire setup that will give you almost the same performance as the GForce GTX 280 (that costs around 300€), see the tests here:

    I know many people are skeptical regarding ATI since many of their older models had lots of problems, and didn't lasted more than a couple of months, but thats all in the past now.

    And like the others said, a i7 with tri-channel DDR3 is also a good choice

    You could try to contact the SK-Gaming racing team. They've some of the best racing games players in the world playing for them, and you could probably get a more educated answer, since they play almost all kinds racing games, and win most of tournaments that they attend.

    I think what you need is a netbook. Although must of them have crappy GPUs I was reading today about the Asus N10JC which has two different GPUs, one is the motherboard integrated graphics and the other is a nVidia's GeForce 9300M GPU with a button to switch between the two (the integrated graphics consumes less battery, that being the reason why they let you choose which one you want to use), and I've seen in a review showing it running L4D at around 40fps. The battery lasts around 5 to 6 hours in power saving mode, and around 3 hours if you're playing or doing something that consumes more battery. It has a 1.6Ghz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB HDD drive (the same has the Asus eeePC 1000H), and for what I've seen it costs around 500€.

    What about this site http://%7boption%7d? And this onehttp://%7boption%7d? And this news post with and youtube video? Granted that none shows a way of playing pirated games in a PS3, they still show that the console has some vulnerabilities that can be exploited.

    You got it all wrong, although i understand that for those on the outside it might had seemed like we where trying to be like the big boys, all the "merchandising" we had was stuff that Tai (mod leader) did on his own free time just for fun, since he was a really creative person and had the need to constantly be creating something, he even started doing a graphics novel about the mod once but that never went outside our private forum, along with other amazing pieces of graphic design that he did without breaking a sweat.

    About the magazine coverage, we never asked any magazine to promote our mod, they where the ones who wanted to write about us, and you can't refuse opportunities like that as well. Besides i think every major Source mod has been featured in more than one magazine article, if i remember correctly theres a guy that is part of one of the HL2 modding sites, that also writes for PC Gamer UK (if I'm not mistaken), and he made articles about all major HL2 mods. Just go to the sites of a couple of mods and you will see that the articles are all from the same magazines.

    I really don't see anything we made as a deliberate "marketing strategy", it was just stuff that got into the mod naturally, and opportunities that where presented to us that we, as a small humble mod team, couldn't afford to refuse.

    The article tells the story behind the failed development of one of the most promising Source SP Mods, called NightFall. I can tell you that when we where at the peak of our development the quality of our game was miles away from, for example, Black Mesa Source (we had a small partnership with them for a while, so we knew more or less what was going on with their game), but we really had a hard time developing it, and almost everything that could go wrong, actually went wrong, and the project was inevitably canceled.

    While i don't agree with everything that is said in the article, and that contrary to the previous examples posted in this thread we lacked a lot of experience, it's still a good read, and i think it might bring something new to this discussion.

    You guys like penny arcade a bit too much! Don't get me wrong, I also like PA and I read it every day, but in my opinion CAD is much better. PA is just too "basic", there's no depth, it's like the Macdonalds of web comics, whilst CAD is a real restaurant that also sells hamburgers but with real meat in them

    I actually like these story arcs, they are what distinguishes CAD from other comics. It makes the characters more real, they actually have a life, different personalities and back stories. There are still some funny story arcs every now and then, but i think this is a nice brake from the "3 panel joke" that very comic since penny arcade uses, he mixes serious business with retarded jokes, and in my opinion that makes it much superior to all the other comics.

    I think Tim is trying to make it not just a game comic, but a comic about a gamers life, and gamers eventually get married and have kids, it's all part of real life. With this i think he creates a nice foundation to make the comic evolve, rather than stagnate, like for example penny arcade which is getting really boring pretty fast in my opinion.

    About people saying that a map is "too big", i think it's important to determine if the problem is with the physical size of the map, or the "psychological" size of the map.

    If the problem is with not having enough time to get to a given point in the map to complete a certain task (ie: In a CS map not having enough time to get to a bomb site after the bomb is planted), then the problem is with the physical size of the map, but i think that most of the times when players say that a map is too big, what they are really saying is that its boring, or not entertaining enough. If the paths of the map are dull, or too claustrophobic, or too repetitive, the player might get tired of them faster than the time it takes for him to reach the end, and that could give him that feeling that the map is too big, but if you challenge the player throughout the path, and give him something to do (or just watch) while he is crossing it, then the players will probably not get that feeling at all.

    I think this is also one of the reasons why players never like puzzles that make them go back to the beginning, they already saw that part of the map, they don't want to see it again unless you give them a great reward for doing it. If you think about it, when you do this, for the player the map will feel to be twice has big has what it is in reality , because he had to go from point A to B and back to A (and sometimes back to B again).

    I know I'm not a regular member of this forum, and as such my opinion might not matter that much, but is it possible to put the photo threads in a different forum again? It's really annoying to click on a thread thinking that you're going to see textures or sketches, and instead you get dozens of gigantic artsy photos that you (I) don't really care about...

    Besides that, i think it was a good move

    Definitely a number, for at least tree reasons:

    1- The numeric system that we use is called the decimal system, meaning that there are 10 different symbols that can represent every number inside that system, these symbols are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. For this same reason we can say that F (for example) is also a number, if you are referring to the Hexadecimal system that uses 16 symbols (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F).

    2- The symbols that represent the Arabic numbers (the ones that we use) where created by making geometric figures with the corresponding number of angles (1 has one angle, 2 has two angles, etc) in which "0" represents the absence of angles that being the reason why it is represented by a circle. It's easier to see this in the following image (count the dots on each figure):

    3- Given the fact that we have negative and positive numbers, if 0 wasn't a number then 1-1 would be equal to -1 instead of 0, which by rules of arithmetics and common sense we know it's not true. Using an analogy If you buy a pie and eat it you end up with "zero pie", if zero wasn't a number you would be owing the baker one pie.

    It's kind of sketchy to get it to work, since you need to patch the game and run it in windows 95 compatibility mode, but once you manage to get it running, for those who enjoy the series, this will bring back lots of nice memories.

    You can also get Red Alert 2 for free if you pre-order Red Alert 3 (more info on the link posted above)

    I started playing the Beta yesterday, and I'm not impressed so far. Maybe it's because the beta is locked to "medium" gfx settings, or maybe its because it is still a beta, but so far is not at the same level as Tiberium Wars (in my opinion).

    I'm still getting used to the gameplay, so i can't comment on that yet.
