I did some kinda normal map 30mins ago, wont post it because i want to try it ingame first in case it sucks a lot since at this morning i had no idea how to make normal maps and barely knew what was the purpose of it.

So now i should learn how use the texture and normal map in game.. oh boy. Too much stuff to learn

I think i've come pretty close to finish my first texture. I'm getting tired to work with this one and i'll move to the next one soon. Last time asking for suggestions this time, then i'm done with it!

Hope i didn't go too far with all the changes.

Still going on with this, better/worse now? Made plates more random shaped and also added some grass/moss and made it to tile better (which still needs some work).

It's got pretty obvious seams due to the fact your tiles are oddly shaped yet all "fit" to the edges of the texture. You should maybe try having some run over an edge and in the other side?

    I'll try that

    Quote from PhilipK

I think i undestand the idea you want there. It's nice so far. But I think it suffers from the same "disease" as a lot of other textures with seams like that. It's like the seams and plates are not the same texture. IMO they need to "interact" with each other more. The seams are dirt, then some dirt should get up on the edges of the tiles etc. Don't know if that was unclear enough

That was very clear, i'll try that one too. Good advices, both of them. Let's see what i can do.

EDIT: Did this in 10mins before i go to sleep, dunno if it's what you were expecting but i think that kinda dirt fits there anyway.. maybe some pieces of broken stone/wood or something would be neat (or not). Now i need some sleep.

My first real texture, it's pretty much just testing and getting known with the style. I think the lower parts are a bit too dark and gap between the plates are too big, or?

I'd definately like to hear some suggestions to make it better

It's a WIP of course. (Original is 1024x1024px)

Yeah, that's so goddamn rediculous and i can't believe they really accepted it. Politicians are so stupid and they really didn't even know what they were voting for. Makes me ¤"/%¤ ANGRY how stupid people can be :ssj:

Such a stupid comments in classifieds forum.. again. Like this post is kinda too but if you guys are not interested maybe you should just shut the *uck up?

Nice renders there, looks very promising. I don't have much spare time nowadays so can't help as a mapper, but good luck anyway!

Remedy definately with their Max Payne serie, and because it's finnish

Rockstar with GTA 1, 2, (London), 3, haven't tried other ones yet. Also VALVe with Half-Life 1 & 2 of course.

You really dont need so many subdivisions on the short side of the handle. That detail will be covered by a hand most of the time in an applied game, and the smoothness can honestly be done with smoothing groups. Otherwise its a good solid model now texture it!

True, didn't think of that

That model soon goes under 100 polys, goes a bit too simple

Ok, great that my post made sense. So i'll be fine with edit poly, at least for now. Thanks

Of course someone who still uses edit mesh can tell if there's something mentionable benefits with it

Spellbinder encouraged me to create a thread from this so.. i did. Even it's a simple question.

I'm learning to model lowpoly objects and i was thinking if anyone uses editable poly for modeling characters. I mean at all, or do you use editable mesh or something else for that?

I don't even know if it makes any kinda sense to model characters with editable poly. Tell meeh

insta: 1st pic is a bit empty and the ground texture is too repetitive, but everyone else had told that already.. 2nd pic look nice.

    keep it going

    EDIT: any new pics?

Those 3 bolts on the handle are a waste of polygons. A normal map can do it as well. The rest of the knife looks well done.

Now comes the fun part... the unwrapping

Ye, that's what i'm supposed to do now, oh my. And i noticed earlier myself that those 3 bolts are really a waste of polys, they almost doubles the polygon count, i just wanted them to the render to see what they look like

    Quote from KoKo5oVaR

same thing that mr.rabbit said, a normal map will be better to do them, but perhaps you can add a hole on the blade and some scratchs on the sharp side

    Maybe i'll try those, thanks.
