2d; For the game developers that got anything to do with art or code, no it's not really important, you can get all of that from Interplays concept art etc. etc.BUT: For the dialogue, story and all of that, you NEED to know what the Fallout universe is like, you simply cannot get it right, or even close to right without having played the games.. It's like selling the Half Life IP to someone who haven''t EVER played the game, and they try to make a sequel...

Yes you are right, however, my point really was that you don't have to be expert (or in this case have played the games) to be hired on the team in the first place Professionals learn and adapt very quickly. I think any designer would understand the importance of research if you where asked to work on a sequal

Guys, game developers are not always major gaming nerds, there is a big difference between playing games and having the skills to make them. In the entertainment industry it's VERY common for people to be hired for jobs without previously playing or being experts in the given IP.

You can have all the knowledge of the original titles, but that doesnt make you a good developer. Don't get me wrong, if your on a project like this it's a given that you should play the originals at some point, but it's not a requirement to be hired on a project.

I'd prefer to hire very skilled individuals that I get on with, rather than a person who knows allot about fallout yet can't gel with a team. I know which one would benifit the project more

Honestly I love the style, it reminds me of the level in Unreal 2, where you navigate through the giant underground tunnels that end up being a creature

I think the temptation to get something for "free" is far to great for most people to handel, at least an till they become somewhat mature enough to see and care about the bigger picture. That maturity happens at different times, for different people.

Maya does have a learning version, however, you cannot export assets to game engines (not the two I was using) so it becomes useless for a game developers. Students could get some good out of it though

Without trying to upsetting the mod community, Mods are about ready for a proper release, but only fairly recently.

I wish Fist Full of Frags and PVK2 where on that list, I'm sure they will be soon though

Games ain't be products, chris. Games are services. By buying a game you should know that you get patches, support and content on the product - you don't pay for the disc but for the service that comes with it. If a Game Dev will not support his game it's kind of worthless esp, if it has bugs or is a mp-title that would require certain content updates for long-time fun.

What this has to do with my comments I don't know Services are also purchased, not illegaly stolen If you pirate a game because the lack of support or issues with something, shame on you because you are contributing towards the lack of investment towards after support. In the long run piracy screws everything up.
