    Skjalg,

I have been here off an on just looking, but I joined so I could post on this thread about the shader, since I worked on it and want to see it get used.

Does that mean you guys are working on the Dota2 SDK? I can't tell you how much I would want to get my hands on that. I'd love to be able to create some single player maps and boss fights in dota.

Hi guys, since many of you have worked in different countries, making this question to you seems appropriate:

If you work in a country for some years, you will retire some day. But is very common CG artists work, for example, 5 years at crytek frankfurt, 10 years at Pixar and 5 years at Valve

So, there is a chance, any law, to sum the years you worked at different countries to gain the benefit of retirement? Or, if you move to another country the most reasonable option is to make a private retirement plan?

    Thanks.

This depends entirely on your nationality. If I moved to Germany and started working there, I would still need to tax to Norway. But some countries forces you to (also) tax to them.

That being said, saving money is always a good idea, and saving money in a private retirement fund sounds like a good idea.

    LMAO Frie!

You know what'd really make an MMO for me, or any RPG for that matter? Something that fuses the experience of Skyrim with Minecraft. I know that Minecraft has been introducing its own RPG-like mechanics and such, but the aesthetic of the game is what kills it for me. Imagine if you could be playing a game like Skyrim, but when you're out in the forests you can actually build yourself a proper shack with beautiful lighting and everything. As you progress through the game, you slowly build up an epic stronghold that's always your safe place to go back to. Until it gets destroyed by some big event and then you cry.

The thing is, games like Fable and Skyrim always tantalisingly tease what this kind of thing could be like by giving you pre-fab houses that you can slightly customise, but if they could get the technology to the point where it's feasible to truly craft the shit out of a game without compromising the graphics to laughable proportions I'd love it. Make your own cave in the mountains of Skyrim!

I think you can build cities and have battles in Age of Conan? Not too sure though.

Which reminds me, Funcom has just been raided by the police and charged with economic fraud.

    Fade from black.

You're in the wilderness. Surrounded by high grass and trees.

White text fades in at the center of the screen, it reads:

Pick a direction and fuck off.

you click a button and it fades out.

Both books were okay. Brandon Sanderson is probably overworked at this point tbh, and I fear for Words of Radiance.

Are they going to upgrade current games to this tech, then? Or just use it in the new games? (L4d3, hl3, tf3 etc)

I'm not sure cs:go or dota2 would benefit from looking better at this point, its all about game play and with better graphics comes a higher cost, which always means less players..

Merry christmas guys! I'm hoping you guys' have had a much better christmas than I did. Nothing really horrible, but still not the best way to celebrate

This years' christmas eve was spent at the hospital as my wifes fever got too high and the doctor at the emergency room registered a pulse at around 150. This gave off a lot of alarms as shes has a risk of developing a blood clot (shes done so before and it nearly killed her). As she's 26 weeks pregnant she is on blood thinners as a precaution, so a blood clot forming is highly unlikely but the doctor could not risk it so she was sent to the hospital 30 minutes drive away by ambulance since he wasn't equipped to do the necessary tests. I had to leave our son to the in laws to follow her by car, as we were at their place to celebreate christmas. He celebrated christmas eve with them and some of their extended family and had a great night.

She was eventually diagnosed with pneumonia, and they were certain of this at around midnight. Then they put her on penicillin and I went home for the night. 4 hours of sleep later my son woke up and we unwrapped some more presents together (that had been lying in my car the past night). He's only two, so it's probably better to spread out the presents anyway. He was super happy to receive so many presents two days in a row Then when it was nap time I left him with the in laws and drove to the hospital again. Her pulse was down to 120 and the fever had broke and she was feeling a lot better. She was then transferred to a hospital closer to our home so I packed up all our stuff and took our son home too. She might be released tomorrow.

    So tired now

I use dark skins in visual studio. I made one called Blorange and uploaded it to studiostyl.es, Its based off of Son of Obsidian, just made more contrasty so its a little easier to see.

    http://studiostyl.es/schemes/blorange-blue-and-orange

Now that I think about it, I might have made it because I have flux activated and the style had some hard to spot colors...
