Just from seeing that picture, shoulden't some of the people lurking here be able to build that scenen in the current source engine? Doesn't look that advacned? Just a lot of tris?

Possibly, but the lighting looks a lot richer. I wonder if it's physically based, I'd imagine Valve would go more down that route.

I don't see why they wouldn't follow the physically based trend. Theyve been developing the engine for years now... I wonder what else of impressive we haven't seen yet regarding their tools.

There's a bit on the powerpoint presentation that says 'improved GUI' or something like that, and automated compiling of models. FUCK YEAH!

I just hope it'll have some decent visual scripting support, would love to do some more complex SP stuff for Valve's games, but last I checked Source's scripting was archaic compared to most other engines.

Also compiling shit makes us all nostalgic, but pls, no moar lulz

I like compiling maps, it reminds me of the anticipation day before christmas as a kid. But with half of the presents broken. Disappointment

It's a nice looking scene but ther's nothing in that screenshot that hints at a big technical leap. As some have said you could do that in the current iteration of source engine. The materials still look as flat as ever. I hope ther's more to it then just source 1 + more geo.

Source 2 should definitely have new tools. Seriously, not the crashing bullshit we have now with compiling whole map if we do small changes somewhere. Also, models/texture import should be much easier to do too. And then million other things there definitely should be in Source 2...

They should seriously learn a lot from Unity's ease-to-use interface...

With the resolution of the screens it's hard to see if it's relying on normal maps and the like for details or if that is just a LOT of tris.

If it is the case, i hope it's not lightmapped because i wouldn't want to do the uv2 of those meshes

Exporting to Source is fucking well easy when you use Wallworm's tools. Piece of cake.

    Kinda.

I perform an ancient voodoo ritual each time I need to compile a model.

It works... most of the time.

I was thinking.. If this is fake, that's probably a very clever way to get hired at valve and float in the sea of portfolios.
