We dislike people for beeing too professional, and we dislike people for not beeing it... somehow I think there'll always be some people that are and aren't interested no matter what you do ![]()

it looks decent, but the hl1 version had more of a "woah"-factor

Hi people.
As some of you know already, I'm working on my own small little sci fi single player using philipk's texture pack. I'm not gonna pimp anymore pictures, but if you wanna check out what im talking about just click here.
I got the two first maps almost ready (with some enemies etc in em), but the final scenario (third and perhaps fourth map) is only on the thinking board atm. I have been mulling it over in my head ever since I started working on the thing that I wanted to do something cool with the hl2 buggy. My only problem is that the hl2 buggy is too... non-sci fi.. for my mod. It just wont look good. Something more along the lines of the vehicle in gears of war comes to mind, except a lot smaller (hl2 buggy sized). I have already had a go at it myself (can be seen on my site). But im not 100% happy with it, and its not unwrapped or skinned, and I'm not 100% sure yet how to bring a custom vehicle in the game..
There are some really excellent modelers frequenting these boards... Rick_D has helped me out with smaller (and larger) props for the map itself over the course of the last months, but he is a very busy man these days doing stuff for INS and trying to get a job and I don't want to push this one on him... So if you are in the mood for making something sci fi, please just reply to this thread and I would be extremely happy
You will ofcourse get full credit etc, and this is just a free project. -
has anyone tried contacting these people? What is this?

I've found out that it differs from hl2 and mods.. in normal hl2 it restarts the map for you, and you have no need to restart the game for it to work.. but if you do it in a mod you have to restart the entire mod...
Or maybe its just like that for me?

I'm glad you felt the vaginal quality about it. and I lol'ed and the butt smacking machine comment.. freaking brilliant. But anyways its a sculpture based on the Egyptian goddess Tawaret, who was depicted as a hippo, she stood for protection, especially for newborns. Protection seems to be always related to the womb, so I wanted to create something that has that feeling.
All I got was the feeling of the dentist' office

yeah JonM is right, you just gotta have a positive attitude and not go "psh, this is much simpler in radiant", because there is a decent workflow in hammer too

Great that you are starting :]
I think the language for coding for source (and most other games) is c++. But if you've already looked at some c, its not that far off
I actually suggest you start with the small tutorials that skdr posted where you edit some weapons ingame etc... that will definatly get you hooked

sk3tch, really nice work... The only thing I can comment on is the lighting. Even though its realistic, it doesnt have the woah!-factor. You should try to mix in more colors there.. Right now its just white and yellow, and theres one scene with some red lighting in it
Try some more orange (borderline red) and perhaps some blueish white? (computerscreen / spotlights). -
woah.. is that an actual screenshot or just mspaint?

If you bother to learn Hammer, you'll see that its a pretty easy to use application

The screens from the old cs map was a little pixelish, but i could definatly see where it was from

Hope you make a kickass version for souce

Thats kind of what i meant. If no work we wont be making any money. How will the poor ppl afford to do fun stuff and have eternal vacation?
The same question applied when machines took over for people in industries... The robots can do so much for us, but they will still need someone to superwise them and repair them when something goes wrong

And some jobs, especially the ones that require human interaction, will always need humans to do the job.. If you go to a restaurant where every waitor is a robot, you wont be welcomed with a smile, or perhaps a small conversation when they bring you the food etc... My point is, Humans are dirty animals and we need someone to clean up after us

I think Arnold would kick ass
