Revisiting the "Eclipse Redux" idea...
[Blocked Image: http://www.button-masher.net/images/wip/d3_eclipse_007.jpg]
Matt (Lunaran) is probably going to have his stuff from Tremors up in the near-ish future... The interior of the bases, if you haven't seen them, are to die for, at least compared to the rest of the map.
I kinda want to make a DM map or a smaller CTF map using that theme again so I can take a stab at the style he put together for that interior. Seriously puts my cavern/connection work to shame. ![]()
That's ok, because this structure trumped any of my bits. ![]()
Seriously, that's the sort of shape I had really been aiming for with the Eclipse triad initially, but never could nail it.
Hmm... re-invisioning of the triad to match this sort of style plus implemented on the d3 engine in some way... HOTNESS.
Hey, that's one of the things I actually kinda built for NW... tommyd finished it off though; I never was happy with any of it... he did good things for it. ![]()
I'll also have to tell Method he got some love here. ![]()
Quote from Pericolos0id love to see some maps in more creative themes though
Yeah, for the official stuff we had to stick to more stock styles/content (though we got some new stuff in there, either that didn't ship or fit the CTF motif). Community-wise there's been some really cool ones, including one that uses only stock textures but got sort of a degraded urban style, and another that used a converted Q3 set for this awesome overgrown/crumbling cathedral setting.
Going forward at home I'm trying to do some more interesting stuff. There's a couple shots at Lunaran's site (http://www.lunaran.com) of a map I've started in his Q2 tech texture remake set, but in a Q3 cathedral style... we'll see how that goes. Also want to take a stab at returning to the MCC theme (lost fleet/skeleton crew) but have it be on a destroyed ship... glowy floating bits, big broken up holes, sparking wires, etc. ![]()
And if mr. PhilipK finishes that texture set he's been working on, I'll have to give that a shot, too. ![]()

q4dm10: "Outpatient" (ugliest of the bunch, if you ask me, but this area turned out really nice)

All available in Q4 1.1 or higher (1.2 full available at http://www.idsoftware.com/ )
q4ctf7: "Tremors" (Another split with Lunaran; he did all the good bits)

pre-job:
Valve, Gearbox, id.
If I were looking now:
Valve, Gearbox, Epic, Insomniac, Relic, maybe Human Head
But Raven's pretty snazzy.
Well, really, what does it matter if there's shitty entries?
They won't win. ![]()
Quote from kleinlukai love the lightingi dont love the low poly archway things....looks so HL1
I think the wider one looks fine, but that smaller hallway is where it really bothers me. Could get away with just a 90 degree frame (or a much smaller angled bit) and it'd look fine. I think the wide one works because the angle is such a small portion of the overall width as opposed to the majority.
That said, on the wider frames, I'd either lose the girder/window or whatever on the side or lose the angled bits on top. - it looks really awkward to have the girder go the full height of the frame, then have a couple angled sections of wall mixed in. Alternatively, you could bump them out maybe 8-16 units and leave a vertical wall section as a buffer between them and the frame... might also work without sacrificing either aspect.
It's the Wilhelm texture!
stolve wins. Happy b-day!
They're simple, have really defined shapes, and blend together great. Get some careful lighting on them and it should look crazy good.
Plus the range of existing grunge decals (or new ones, if you feel so inclined - I'd love to see some cool worn painted logos or something like that) gives people lots of options to mix it up a little.
By the way, whenever you might finish it, I can give you a hand with setting up the pk4 for autodownload so anyone with the set for an MP map can reference it properly in their autodownload setup.
hook me up when that set's done, I will make a map with it. ![]()
that's awesome... remix celine dion!
I think you're thinking of this: http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images ... een006.jpg

Locker door was the coolest in my book, if a bit unwieldy.
Oh, btw, if you use guns in this game you're a weenie ![]()

Blugh who cares still gonna get it, though not for awhile as I have loads of other games to play first.
...fucking lame. The game's great, I had a blast going through it... I lost interest really early in FEAR (which I found really underwhelming) but this one kept me through to the end. Some genuinely creepy/disturbing/jumpy moments in this one, too, without resorting to flashes of creepy zombie face like an online flash movie.
