mapping is ALWAYS fun
Try removing all the lights and see if the lights are really what is causing the problem.BTW glad to see you're on Nightwatch. They can definately use talent like yours. What area you working on? I did the new silo work and chopper chases.

anything that brings more popularity to our industry and provides new customers, hopefully more women (though I wouldn't expect them from spike), is a good thing.

how does a sacrifice in features help mikezilla afford more money to spend on the site? We dont need to have an uploading feature. Yeah it would be cool, but I'd rather keep mapcore "ad" free than have these extra features.
Drop EOT and keep that kind of attitude out of the forums.
Screw the popularity. Doesn't matter how long you're here. We praise hard work and quality, that alone will get you into the spotlight forum when it is revived.
Mapcore in its what? 4 attempts? Has tried to do a large community effort. It rarely works. So everyone "pitching in" may or may not have a large impact. I'm curious as to what you want everyone to "pitch" in for? We have a good number of admins who keep constant watch. When the time that the frontpage is fixed and the spotlight forum is revived we'll have the dedicated mod's to keep it vibrant. Not saying a community isn't imporatnt, but it is not important to have a large community effort to keep the site afloat. Rather have a large community effort to work on their projects and keep the site alive with content.
My 50 cents.

simply amazing. spot light forum quality

cg talk has quite the funding. If i'm correct, mikezilla graciously pays for this site out of his pocket. I agree that spotlight should be revamped. Klien and I have wanted to get this place reordered for a while but like mojo says its not a cake walk and takes a lot of time. Most of the more "veteran" people have jobs and dont have a lot of time to spend at this site.

thats like mtv's politcal debates.

i guess the questino is do you wnt to play your ww2 games as though you were THERE or as though you were in a movie and you're watching something happen. Personaly I'd rather be there so making it more cinematic like film grain is not my cup of tea. But at least valve is making strides to do something like that.

that does indeed look nice. I can still see the colors "picked" by the designer, but that makes it look cohesive. Dunno if youcould mke it more subtle though.

looks neat, maybe a little cramped.

not a sports game fan except for fun racing games =(

dont remove them, replace them.

well dont design your level based off of a model. Design your level, define your atmosphere, and use what art assetts that best enhance the level. Right now those tree's are what bring it down. Want green tree's? Fine maybe desaturate the green a little bit. But right now the green is taking control of my attention. Think of it as a moving piece of art. yOu want what is most important to garner the viewer's attention. Subjects in art are displayed with warm bright colors. Your warmest color, or at least the one that takes most of my attention, is that green. Its not the best model, not knocking the artist, however it simply isn't the best that could enhance your level .Maybe find someone within the community to help you. But finding a better prop would simply help the level.

this is what klein is talking about, lack of maturity. the post is derailed.

like klein said make the mud at the bottom of the trenches. these were recently dug trenches that people trasverse in. Maybe find a decal that looks like foot prints to put where the buildings meet the trenchs? might help add atmosphere
I was going to say remove the sand bags frominside the concrete walls but it looks like you already did that.I'd keep the concrete walls instead of wood myself, because they were not exaclty RUSHED fortifications. They were actualy fortified. But keep the sand bags for outside to merge concerete>sand bags>grass>open space. Like a stepping stone of fortifications so it looks better.
Remove the tank hedgehogs, no matter the purpose they look stupid. Find something that looks like it holds barb wire inplace, but those hedgehogs are well known to be tank stopping devices that stop tanks, not infantry. They look remarkably stupid at the top of the cliff like the designer did not know their purpose. It would make me stop and say "wait why are those there, to stop tanks from going OVER the cliff onto the beach???"

i dont like the roofs on your buildings. Spend more time adjusting your brushwork to make them look better. I have a tutorial over in snarkpit about brushwork and one with texturing that could help improve your overall look. Your lighting looks alright but I"d get more contrast and variation on tones to help the overall feel.Trees are too barren and simply bring it down. Yeah they're custom but at this point i'd simply go back to using valve's stuff unless you can find something better.
your first pic is my favorite. Yeah the displacements are low poly, but thats fine. Keep it that way. Instead massage your vertex's to get a smoother transition for the water. You've spent resources to make them reflect, so instead of adding polys, massage your vertexs until they're forming a less acute angle. Your lighting seems very misty. But those overly green ugly tree's are ruining the mood for me I'm sorry to say. Personaly i'd like to see how trees with yellow leaves would look. I think they'd help bring the map out better.

nice nice, I didn't know if bend would distort it any. Very nice indeed.

jynx this is the way to make more stylised games. Not every game is attempting to be realistic. What if your story/plot line benefited by using filmgrain?
