Tidle = Mapcore
Hurg = EOT
Hurg was just the only decent topic there, and it kind of leaked.
WHOA, MODEL PACK AND ENGINE UPDATE.
Thinks D3 is so metal he rusts when it rains.
Wore a shirt and tie to both of the interviews I’ve had (and got both
, but I don’t think that counts as a suit – just looks like you made the effort.
I know Argonaut Games used to not accept people who showed up in a full blown suit, but they were a bit weird towards the end of their run anyway.
I played one of the original C&C's on the Playstation and I brought the PC version shortly after, it wasn't that bad and the PS never had an analogue stick. Later some friends and I played Red Alert two player and it was fine because you both had the same handicap... I still prefer a mouse though, and I've heard the 360 doesn't allow you to just to plug a USB mouse into it like the PS3 (supposedly) does. So I'll say you're not mental for liking a RTS on a console, but you are mental to choose a joypad over a mouse if you've the choice
.
Okay, I want a gun. How do I get one? Srsly it’s not that easy to be hooked up to a shady market. But I do agree this is a fruitless tangent, even if it’s almost obligatory on a forum; strict regulations on guns in America will be about as taboo as opening up the display case and spunking on the constitution, and we can all agree having a gun does not directly relate to being a psycho nutcase.
I’m annoyed by the speed in which Twat Thompson has latched onto this case, like the little tick he is, to blame games before the first shred of evidence he even played them. Debase a school shooting and entire entertainment industry just to he can stand on his soap box in front of the cameras and recite the same bullshit rhetorics again. Two things worry me in particular: 1) The creative writing class in which he wrote depraved stuff that worried his tutor and got him seeing a psychotherapist is completely glossed over, whereas blaming video games went straight into full swing without any foundation. 2) People are more happy to accept something is forcefully brainwashing millions of kids to turn them into murderers than, perhaps, that he was a heavily depressed psychopath with a gun.
Quote from ThrikYeah, Kotaku has absolutely become an embarrassment of a site. If a post isn't taking things completely out of context to create controversy or blatantly attempting to provoke a comment backlash by insulting someone or something, then it's probably the profanity-filled report of some ranting, outrageous dick who thinks he sounds really intelligent (case in point: link in this thread).
My mouth, you took words out of!
I’ve got to support them on saying Thompson is an asshole but God damn Kotaku is a stupid website.
The absolute king is definitely Battletoads, every level a different play style and tuned precisely so you’re crying blood. Most games released nowadays don’t have the joypad twisting frustration of Lost Levels or Jet Set Willy, though. I went back to Magic Land Dizzy (I think) not too long ago, and ruined all my childhood memories after failing to ride the shark fin across the moat until it was game over.
And I must say that FF7 chocobo race was quite frustrating but in my opinion it doesn’t hold a candle to the chocobo event in FF10 for joypad to wall action. The one with the completely random birds lunging at you at the speed of light while the rail you’re strapped to bends along some weird ass spline throwing you all over the place.
I’m going to throw in an honourable and maybe controversial mention for The Four Horsemen in WoW. Of course because MMORPG’s don’t require precise aiming with a railgun they automatically don’t quality as taking skill, but that encounter is really worth mentioning. People were banging their heads against that for months before people worked out how it was done, and then the execution needed perfection (and a bit of luck) too. Definitely one of the best designed and tuned encounters ever. Unfortunately they followed this design into the expansion immediately, which sounds like a good idea but it’s not. Entrance encounters this hard are a major handicap to new teams and despite being intricately designed Magtheridon (Strategy) and his 2 entrance buddies are doing more harm then good. But more assessment on this is probably for my geekier buddies.
You jump in the 'water' at the other side. Once you have a frog in every alcove it advances.
According to the Internets Digimon started out as a Tamagotchi and was released by Bandai in 1997. In the same year they produced a card game, and some dude named Hiroshi Izawa made a manga about it that proved to be popular and they hastily produced an anime based on it (presumably to cash in on pokemon's success). The games came much later.
At the bottom of the article someone argues that Digimon did not rip off Pokemon because of how early the initial toy was conceived, which is in itself misleading because the initial toy was nothing like the pokemon clone it was later... So don't take that as gospel.
I'd only heard of it as a TV series though, and not watched it past the introduction.
Edit: Must stop messing about with this post.
I didn't either, but a FPS has got to be really special for me to like it. Plus points for not being realistic, at least.
I imagine it depends what game they're working on for this distinction to be applicable. For typical First Person Shooters their seems to be little difference in the two titles because the person who designs the layout, game flow and enemy placement, etc. is also assumed to script, build, texture and light the same space by himself. There’s some debate about how long this will last or if it’s already gone (certainly has for more open-ended FPS’s), but lets not start that.
But a Level Designer and Environment Designer in the context of a PC RPG like Oblivion or Neverwinter Nights or an open-ended game like Grand Theft Auto? It’s not hard to make the distinction between the person making the monster encounters, scripted sequences and quest designs with the one making the layout itself.
But I'd go for the advice posted here to apply to the companies directly, they know what they want and aren't going to pass over the oppotunity to offer you a different position. e.g. I applied for an Artist position but was ultimately offered a Scripting one.
Hmm, when Dark Messiah was described to me the words linear and scripted were used several times.
Well I got the impression Bully was going to be controversial for the sake of it also and, while that’s actually true in some places, for the most part it was, um, un-controversial.
1956 - Vice Principal comes over, takes a look at Jack's rifle, goes to his car and gets his to show Jack.
1956 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up best friends. Nobody goes to jail, nobody arrested, nobody expelled.
Since when did “kinda” mean “not”?
I never did finish System Shock 2, I found it most impressive but it was already quite dated when I discovered it. I imagine in its time I’d be replacing my pants on an hourly basis.
Though the game I recall being the scariest I’ve played is still Silent Hill 3. Yeah yeah, the second one was better, but that was due to the clever story and symbolism, and monster sex – it was rather lacking in Mirrors of Holy Fuck. I recall one of the creepiest things being the hospital keypad combination on hard mode, with the sadistic eye crushing, delicious.
Quote from DarkAnd don't forget PS3(sony) which has lost all of its exclusives except for one, which is still in rumor of releasing on the 360.
You know I visit these boards a couple of times a day, and each time I read this and try to think of a reply. But, the sheer lunacy of the statement seems to create some kind of impenetrable casing around my brain, so I hit reply, foam at the mouth, and have to lie down in a darkened room until I feel better.
I got Virtual Fighter 5 today, it looks like a very generic fighting game for the Playstation 2. This had two obvious benefits: It helped enforce the idea of waiting to buy a Playstation 3 because I do have some kind of suppressed desire, and inspired me to load up Guilty Gear XX on my PSP.
Heaven or Hell. Lets rock!
In essence this is another thread with a Youtube links in it, but bear with me. I watched Hot Fuzz again today, and after looking around the Internet for any of the references I didn’t get (I missed the Time Crisis one!) I stumbled in a roundabout way upon Adam Buxton’s Blog, though it seems wrong to call it a blog because it’s not shit.
He’s spending quite a lot of time upping stuff, old and new, to YouTube. I imagine he’s scarcely known outside the UK but he, especially with Joe is really rather amusing. So here you go, more on YouTube and his history.
I also found Adam and Joe’s XFM Podcasts, which are delightfully amusing to listen to while you work away. It helps if you have seen The Adam and Joe Show though, since it’s basically that in unfunded, giant-sketch, radio form.
