The films and books contained little in the way of giant robots and explosions so I wasn’t too interested in them, but I’ve seen the first two and been assured by friends the others are rather good - so I should stop using the fact they like it as an insult.

The graphics are certainly very nice and it looks to be one of the better “lets grab an IP” products out there. However, and this is going by my aforementioned limited knowledge, the character models don’t seem to represent their film-based characters too well, especially Harry and That Ginger One.

Point taken, EA have a good production line approach. But generally production contains a lot of "arrrgh."

If sticking a load of white boxes in a room is art, I can name about a million things more deserving of the title. Art is such a pointless label these days that you can stick it on anything. Games are creative and I think that’s the only requirement you need (though there is a strong emphasis on story and concept art these days to bolster that), sure most games these days are derivative because publishers like money, but that’s kind of moot.

Though as for games being taken as seriously as movies... well, I think that will happen when games start getting produced like movies. When everything planned is determined in preproduction and the only changes are bumps in the road, it doesn’t work like that right now. And Defrag had a good point about the older generation just not getting it, especially helped by the drivel fed out by the media.

Edit: Extremely late edit for readability.

Just finished God Hand on the PS2. It has an awful lot of flaws, most of which I assume can be attributed to the closure of Clover and them just throwing it out the door. However, despite the dodgy camera, blocky environments and surprisingly lack of customisation it was heaps of fun to play: combat is very enjoyable, it’s quite amusing when it wants to be and it's a bit quirky - going to play through it again for sure. The only flaw that really affects gameplay is the difficulty curve: it starts off hard and then gets harder.

I've yet to utilise mine to any great effect. But if I did I wouldn't put 4chan on it where some innocent user could click it after a brief exchange of "can I quickly use for computer for OH GOD MY EYES MELT FROM MY SKULL WILL THE PAIN NEVER STOP"

If they make a movie out of The Sims, then in the same vein of thought I demand that they make a video game out of The Passion Of The Christ.

Spearing Jesus with the Wii-Remote is fun for all the family.

You're right, I'd rather you got purged from the forums and forgotten about since you contribute nothing but flamefest and stupidity, and the moment you appeared the forums quality took a nose dive.

I've played and enjoyed all the games posted, all back when they were released and my PC/PSP are swimming with emulators. If I'm anything it's and old-school gamer.

The point was as far as actual mapping goes, there's none.

JonM's responce was a good one and I accept. Yours is making sure my respect for you stays in the negative.

I don’t understand this thread! Sure, retro and awesome, but I don’t see how straight lines are your mapping roots.

Don't care for any of the new ones personally. But Assassins Creed looks awesome; I dig all the futuristic/modern stuff spliced into all the footage, and I was kind of disappointed when I read Kristen Bell spoiling it all in an interview (and presumably being slapped across the chops for it). I thought it’d some kind of Quantum Leap with garrotting initially. Still be interesting to see how it's done, it's got oodles of style.

Can a moderator please close this or attempt to tidy it up, and ask people to sit in the corner and think about what they’ve done?

I know there’s always an irony when I talk about this, given my e-angst years ago, but trolls, flamewars, loaded words and such nonsensical excuses to have a go at each other have been absent on map.core for a long, long time.

well the truth is, if it were called "Ass monkey 5 the war on teror and oil" no one here would've cared unless a mapcore member worked on itYou're all falling on franchise fanaticism

And if the game was Ass Monkey 5 the War on Terror and Oil and we all sat here saying how horrible it looked, you would post how amazing it could be and we’re all tools for not waiting for more than a few screenshots and videos of an unfinished game before judging it.

    • May 20, 2007 at 12:29 AM

This hasn’t been posted here yet so here goes. Vanguard has been going through months of development hell and its employees were laid off so they could be acquired by Sony Online Entertainment. One guy who was obviously not rehired, was interviewed and had this to say about the game and its development.

Some of the stuff is really: :wtf:

New units, new abilities, new graphics, new levels, continue the storyline... this is the standard affair isn’t it? And it’s not devoid of new gameplay twists, the Mothership for example. And please respect we’re going by very limited information and the first thing the gameplay movie says is “this isn’t finished.”

    Quote from leileilol

woo so they made it 3d and put in some lighting. Still the same old zerg rush.

What did you expect, some new fangled zerg rush? Gameplay wise it is held as the most balanced RTS ever and it has a huge following for tournaments and competitive play in Korea, they really can’t afford to fuck that up. What would you want, another faction? More gameplay twists? Heroes?

Darkstalkers sequels merely added characters to the older version and fiddled with the special/ex bar and how rounds worked. Each one was still awesome to recieve.

I know you like to go against the grain and stick it to The Man, but I don’t see the massive problem here.

Anyway, my comments: They're blatantly using a tooled up Warcraft 3 engine, but it doesn’t seem tooled up enough and doesn’t seem "next-gen" to use the ever popular buzzword. The nuclear launch looked really bad when you compare it to things like the airstrikes in Company of Heroes. Hopefully graphics will get a good Blizzard style polish later... or they'll add bloom, that's pretty next gen.

  • What kind of questions were you asked at your interview?

I was drawn a room layout and told to go mad with it, but that was for level design. I understand our artists get asked to model something beforehand, but nothing on-the-spot in the interview.

Actually doesn't look too exciting, but RTS's generally don't until it's your guys being shot at. The cinematic movie made me so horny though.
