There are definitely some good American acts out there, unfortunately Andrew Dice Clay, Dane Cook, etc. seem to get more attention.

And yay, stand-up. You need some attrition for Stewart Lee, but bear with it. This was performed in Glasgow, by the way.

Someone has posted it already, but the license agreement saying Google own everything you upload is pretty sweet, but g-mail also had some dodgy lines and they've not done any evil dictator stuff there as far as I know. People are also harping on about a few supposed security holes.

I'm not sure if I'll use it over Firefox, simply because I'm happy with what I've got, but the multi-threaded tabs sound like a nice addition.

I imagine a lot of the people indifferent to the experience played the PC port, which wasn't redesigned for the keyboard, mouse and F6 mashing conventions of the platform, and was probably a lesser experience as a result. And, let’s be honest, most PC gamers who refer to themselves as such absolutely detest consoles and, at the very least, there would be an air of pessimism when playing [their pirated copy].

I expected that blog post to read "It's an M&S kart racing game."

This probably isn't the best place to ask, but what happened to DevBump? I noticed my RSS feeds haven't been loading for a looong time and I just get errors on the site.

It’s hard for me to commend Halo for originality when its main character, which has become somehow iconic, is the Doomguy.

I've heard bad things about the DMC3 PC port, I remember Gamespot's review saying you couldn't configure your joypad and the 360 one defaulted with the right stick as movement.

while the first paragraph makes sense, it is completely beside the point. i know what audience wow targets and why the graphics are as they are, just don't come tell me it looks beautiful when comparing to other games. again, the same with gameplay.

I never implied otherwise, this paragraph was for clarity more than anything else.

    Quote from Sentura

as for the second paragraph: either you aren't being serious or you haven't tried anything else but wow within the genre. i know at least one or two mmos that came before wow and handled quests, level and items better in addition to having endgame content that would last longer than any pve raid in wow.

This is rather vague, can you name the games that handle these aspects better and what this end-game content is? It's ultimately subjective, but I’m curious.

And yes, I have experience with other MMO’s, though I remember you stating elsewhere you've never played WoW?

    Quote from Sentura

wow's strength comes in that it is simplified and dumbed down so that everyone can use it; plus having a strong reputation and excellent PR from the company's side. no other company has done this within the mmo genre; thus letting blizzard have the benefit of the first go at the major population.

I completely agree here on every point, but I don’t think I’ve stated anything to the contrary.

The WoW target audience is casual gamers with dated computers, and half of its players are in China at cybercafés who probably aren’t at the bleeding-edge in terms of kit. Its cartoon style is a clever move on behalf of the developers because in ten years it’ll still have a certain twee charm to it, whereas the wave of titles with realistic graphics, like AoC, will quickly deteriorate into ass as new technology comes out. While patching new graphical features in is an option, you’re just doing to upset the majority of your customer base when they can’t take advantage of it.

It also seems a bit frivolous to deride WoW based on fetch quests or level grind because they are staples to the genre. WoW has handled questing and levelling better than anyone else out there. Being able to quest all the way to maximum level had never been done before, as was having a maximum level you could reach in less than 3 months if you didn't go to the toilet in your chair.

Given a basic love for the MMO genre the problems with WoW have occurred with its shift toward being a PvP-centric game with PvE-centric classes and rules, dumbing down raids, throwing in reputation bars instead of content, and lack of direct feedback to its players.

It might be worth clarifying that I was dead serious with my last comment. Dawn of War was one of the highest calibre RTS games around, and as legendary as Starcraft may be I reckon Starcraft 2 will have its work cut out beating it.

Nobody bite? Regardless to your opinion on which was better, DoW didn’t scratch Starcraft in terms of sales, players or tournaments.

There's not much to elaborate, this is the Warhammer franchises offical game and both Warcraft and Starcraft are blatant copies of the two Warhammer franchises (Fantasy Battle, 40,000). Rumour has it Blizzard even asked for the licenses originally but were turned away.

    Edit: Beaten

Finally got enough excuses to buy an Xbox. And wow, say what you want about the PS3 price tag, at least it comes with everything. It'll cost me another £80 for a wireless controller than doesn't run on AA batteries and a wireless internet adaptor. It also crashed 5 minutes after I turned it on, and my d-pad is not just "bad," as they notoriously are, it actually doesn't detect me pressing down more than 3 times in a row because it collides with the pointless plastic circle it lives in.

But then I got some games and felt better about the whole thing:

Ninja Gaiden II, Braid, Ikaruga, Triggerheart, Galaga Legions, Pacman CE, Geometry Wars 2
