Cube is great, lots of clever stuff in there about the human psyche like

the theories to why they are there

. Though the sequel was kind of lame, if you liked it for reasons other than the death rooms you might like π.

Most depressing and bleak film I've seen is probably Grave of the Fireflies. It gets extra points for looking so nice and innocent, and for being based on a book, based on reality, written as an 'apology.'

    Manly tears.

I'm not getting sound on Youtube right now, I'm assuming these do have it.

Bleh. I enjoyed playing through Resistance co-op, and I really liked the weapon design.

Nobody knows what the Crysis engine does because the only computers capable of running it properly are in the Crytek building.

    It'll just read "grammatically unsound."

During one of story sequences it mentions events from the previous games, the visual is someone scrolling through a PS3-style XMB with all the Metal Gear games in it, with two blank titles under MGS4 with "to be decided" (or something) written on them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the xbots are out in full force. I've just read 4 pages of comments about how Killzone 2 is going to be the most rubbish game ever released because a sand bag texture is arguably inferior to some of the textures in Gears of War 2. Yeah.

Edit: I did make an obscure joke about Ragnarok City but any google result, including the Wikipedia page, is NSFW and I don't want people getting promoted.

If you're turning her into a cat girl you can just put some ears on her. But maybe get rid of her human ears, most people just obscure that area of the face with hair so it doesn't look strange at first glance. A fang would probably go down well, too.

Some stores in Japan have police controlled queues every weekend. I'm pretty sure America could manage this outside the larger stores for one day of the year.

I really loved the first Uncharted and if this was just more of the same it’d still be a first-day purchase. Though, I’m glad they’ve decided on a whole new location; the blinding whiteness of the tundra.

    With flying trains!

Though I did have some gripes with Uncharted. I didn’t mind the linear nature of the game so much, but I would’ve liked the puzzle pieces to be a bit harder. Checking the book was really cool, but the game was too ready to give away the solution. And I hope they have some non-humanoid enemies in the game, Uncharted mixed it up a little with

    Quote

the cursed Nazis, which were a great addition because you had to fight completely differently

, but I’m not sure there was enough variety.

These both combine to my main problem with Uncharted. At several points in the game you would solve a complicated puzzle (story-wise) to unlock a secret passage that nobody has entered for hundreds of years... Only to find that actually the back wall has fallen down, or 2 seconds later there’s an handy explosion, to facilitate the place being flooded with mercenaries. Kind of took all the mystery out of it.

But then again, 10 foot man-eating cave spiders probably would be out of place. And, by golly, you’ve got to shoot something.

There was one back when it was announced

The arcade version of Street Fighter IV has half the character roster compared to the home port now, so I can't see any arcade in the UK forking out £15,000 for it. I believe board owners in Japan can download them somehow, but I never saw anyone playing a SFIV the entire time I was over there... I think they clocked it was a 3D Street Fighter II Turbo with Roman Cancels and moved on. Home version will do very well in the west, though.

Mapcore. The only board where the Street Fighter IV thread dies in a week and you have to say what HD Remix is.

    Quote from m8nkey

awesome. A mate has it on the PS3, can't wait to checkout SF2 in HD glory. Without doubt my all time favourite game.

Truth be told it's not that great. Adding extra in-betweens on the animations would really irritate the purists and may have messed with the hit boxes and frame data – but without them the result is a rather jerky mess. Everyone should still buy it though, just 'cuz.

Like with Joint Strike, Europe PS3 owners get completely screwed again on the release date. But playing it on the 360 means you need to use the 360 d-pad, and even the "fixed d-pad" limited edition completely missed the point. Could buy the arcade stick but what else am I going to use it for? Gah.

  • Eidos and game reviews (again)

Review scores are a good idea on paper and an okay idea in execution; they are basically a no-frills, statistical summary of the text in the article. Inaccurate, yes, but slightly faster to gauge than 5 columns of text over two pages of A4. It’s often actually the incentive to read it in the first place.

Film, music and book reviews all have review scores and I’ve yet to see anyone say those are an out-dated concept on a crutch, or that everyone should be forced to read the authors musings instead, as they transcend a few soul-less stars.

They are far from perfect but that doesn’t mean they don’t have their own merits. I would imagine the amount of people who are using purely a number as the basis for their purchase is rather low.

Do you mean complacent as in easy to please? Because I can’t say I agree with that notion.

To be honest, The Kane and Lynch Scandal died so fast it doesn’t really deserve those capital letters. Not even the vocal minority really cared about it for more than a week.
