It depends completely on the genre; character customisation implies self-insertion, so I don’t want it in a narrative based game with a central character because I'm following them and have no desire to make them me. It's also not a massive focus in first person games because I can't see what I look like, so I'm not that fussed about the aesthetics.
It's more important in games where my character is a visible, empty slate and crafting him or her makes up a lot of my game-time, like a western RPG, MMORPG and, to a lesser extent, fighters and racing games. As far as options go I prefer a few controlled meaningful options rather than a wall of sliders that I have to ram rapidly to minimum and maximum values to find out what they actually change.

Never missed a deadline.

Assuming you're going to do crunch and planning for it sounds much more commendable than getting within sight of the deadline after 2 years and realising everyone is going to have to pull their socks up.
-
I imagine he attracts high-level players because of the execution hurdles.
Super late edit: Err, not implying that I'm high-level. I only pick him because he's an oddball character.

I would advise applying somewhere sooner rather than later. I didn’t seem to have any hiccups, but sat on my hands for years before going for it.

Yeah, Gen is that character who is a pain to use for no real reward. Every fighter needs one!
Quote from SpicyTanukiI cant wait until I get an arcade stickAnyone used both octo-gate and square gate? When I think about it I feel like I'd be better off with square gate, I seem to remember octogates being really slippery.
I’ve used all kinds of random configurations in the wheeler dealer arcades of London. I like a bit of slip in fighters because it makes circle motions eaiser, but you will be jumping randomly until you get used to it. The best two are the Sanwa JLF and Seimitsu LS-32-01, for fighters and shmups respectfully, and both let you adjust the gate. At least, they are according to the notes of my now-abandoned "take myself into financial ruin" project of opening an arcade in 2008.

Fun matches, Erratic. Your Cammy and Ryu are great, and I like your focus attack shizzle.
Hopefully my supposed rampant turtling as Gen wasn't too annoying, last time I played at work someone shouted cowabunga

-
Heh, to be fair the fights were pretty close. Your Cammy was rather good at guessing what I was going to do.

If only the prorate system wasn't so simplistic to make it worthwhile...

That’s cool, Vivi, really nice to see someone using her well. Here’s the best piece of advice I can give a fellow Sakura player: Instead of following her ex-hurricane kick with otoshi try a jumping light kick, which makes them land on their feet. If you hold forwards (or dash) you will discreetly move under them as they fall (almost completely off camera), or you can just let her land. Your opponent now has to guess what side you are on and block, or eat whatever you enter next. So, to put that in geek-speak:
j.hp, c.hp, ex-tatsu, j.lk >> walk under/or not >> c.lp, c.hp, ex-tatsu, otoshi
This is the most powerful thing she has; ridiculous damage and stun - worth saving your meter for. Instead of the otoshi you can also do another j.lk or ultra. You can do it with more complicated combos, and actually start it of a light kick, but that takes some really strict timing.

I just noticed both of you have PSN IDs! Which platform do you have this on?
Erratic: There are other characters that are good at covering ground but none of them are as nice to look at

HP: I've got a friend who couldn't stay connected using the wireless, can you switch to a wired connection (assuming you're not already)?

Eh, I'm not really sure if I like Sakura now, she seems a bit of a one-trick pony with her ex-tatsu -> j.lk cross-up, and that just makes people rage-quit and send me hate mail...

I've been playing Viper and Rufus quite a lot, plus they're in the arcade version (not that I've been there in months). Viper is rather hard to play properly on a pad without getting some serious Street Fighter Thumb, though.

Exactly. I think if Valve made this e-freak would be foaming at the mouth.

!*awaits challengers!*
If you had PSN we could have an epic catfight

I lost about 800BP today, everyone who I beat quit and everyone who beat me made me drop 95-100BP. I think once I get back up to 2000BP, and therefore my e-penis is sufficiently long, I'm just going to play player matches. To be honest I prefer playing the same guy because you get a feel for their play-style. And they're less likely to rage-quit and send you abuse.

I know people with it but none of them were online, to be honest there’s so much instant-kill stuff on the last level I’m not sure I’d like to play it with someone else.
I found out I only had to do 6-3 again, I thought I had to do the whole chapter, so minus points to me for not paying attention. Sheva got killed by the instant-kill insects and then wasted every rocket in the hangar fight so I had to suicide, but other than that it went okay. Had a ton of ammo going into the last boss fight, and conveniently saved some money to upgrade my weapons capacity so I could restock. I still ran out and had to kill him with my knife - I didn't realise the
Quote"shoot me here" point switched sides
but I'm not blaming myself for that. Honestly, it was pretty good overall but the latter half just caused me some frustration, there's nothing more irritating as a player than to fail when it's not your fault.

I heard Gouken and Seth are banned from some upcoming Japanese tournament. Seems a bit knee-jerk, but who am I to say? I played Seth a few times and didn't really like him, he's way too slow and I can't do his full DP without using his Super...
I'm at 2000bp now, played a ton of games though. I still main Sakura but I'm getting the hang of Rufus too. There doesn't seem to be that many Kens about anymore, but I'm still not seeing 90% of the roster being used. I've only fought 1 Gen so far (who completely destroyed me)!
I got Battle Fantasia on Friday, but it seems I'm the only one. Haven't found a single opponent online. I hope BlazBlue gets better reception.
