The one major complaint about torture is that if you’re tortured you’d say what you think the torturers want to hear to make it stop, so its not reliable information.

Its NOT the search for the first male human ie "Adam".
It's a puzzle from ~10 000 samples of DNA around the world from which you try to find a common ancestor pattern.
Then you compare that to the samples to see what current samples are most like the common ancestor pattern and from that you guess what region the "DNA ancestor" came from. Talk about a shitload of things that could go wrong.
With only 10 000 samples my bet is that they havent even covered a third of the worlds countries for starters.
Not that I dont think it's interesting but to even imply that it's got something to do with the first ever male human is just a publicity stunt in my book.

Hmm its like this, our second biggest resourse of proteine has catched a plague.
When such a plague hits big cities with large amount of poor people (read lives close to animals) like in Africa it will without a doubt, because of the large population subjected with no resources of control, mutate into a human to human situation and then we will have a shitload of people sick EVERYWHERE not just in third world countries.
This is not UFO's or Yeti, this is a plague, we KNOW they exist, we KNOW that pandemic plagues usually erupt every 80 years or so but we have been lucky lately.
Lets put it like this, buy stocks in Tamiflu, it will skyrocket.
Well the experts say that the way it's spreading amongst birds its increasing the risk mongfold of a cross speicies mutation.
Should we stockpile flu vaccine while we can?
Well "it just is" isn't super uncommon amongst scientists either but at least they want to know more.
And the mousetrap anology sucks because I can think of lots of uses for each individual part of the mouse trap so no reason for each part not to get evolved.
Infact, if you think of it thats how the mousetrap came to be in the first place, wood working, metalurgy into springs, claps and what not was not created for the sole purpose of making mouse traps so...
